Increased Expression of Nitric Oxide Synthases in Left and Right Ventricular Hypertrophy
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.1 9 65-70 (6 pages)
The present study was aimed to explore pathophysiological implications of nitric oxide in the development of left and right ventricular hypertrophy. To induce selective left and right ventricular hypertrophy, rats were made two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) hypertensive and treated with monocrotaline (MCT), respectively. Six weeks later, the hearts were taken and their ventricular tissue mRNA and protein expression of endothelial constitutive isoform of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) were determined by... -
Role of Shc and Phosphoinositide 3-Kinase in Heregulin-Induced Mitogenic Signaling via ErbB3
MyongSooKimJohnG.Kol 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 9 497-506 (10 pages)
ErbB3/HER3 is a cell surface receptor which belongs to the ErbB/HER subfamily of receptor protein tyrosine kinases. When expressed in NIH/3T3 cells, ErbB3 can form heterodimeric coreceptor with endogenous ErbB2. Among known intracellular effectors of the ErbB2/ErbB3 are mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase. In the present study, we studied relative contributions of above two distinct signaling pathways to the heregulin-induced mitogenic response via... -
Effect of Serotonin Uptake Inhibitors on Serotonin Metabolism in the Hypothalamus of Freely Moving Rats

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 1 427-437 (11 pages)
MPOA was clomipramine, sertraline, paroxetine and fluoxetine and the concentrations of 5-HIAA was vice versa. The changes in serotonin concentration at the MPOA appeared closely associated with the clinical effects of these drugs on premature ejaculation. These results suggest that the serotonergic neuronal activity in the MPOA may have an selective inhibitory influence on ejaculation, and the effects of clomipramine and SSRIs on erectile function are mainly mediated by MPOA of the hypothalamus. -
Nitroxergic Nerve Relaxes Rat Gastric Smooth Muscle by NO-cGMP Pathway
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 5 369-378 (10 pages)
This study was undertaken to investigate an involvement of nitroxergic innervation in gastric smooth muscle of rat. Isometric tension study, the measurement of single cell length, NADPH diaphorase stain of smooth muscle layers and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) western blotting were performed. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide donor, relaxed the muscle strips precontracted by acetylcholine (ACh) in a concentration-dependent manner. Pretreatment of L-arginine decreased the... -
Amperozide Decreases Cocaine-Induced Increase in Behavior and Immediate Early Gene Expression in the Dorsal Striatum
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 4 361-367 (7 pages)
Cocaine functions as indirect dopamine and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) agonists and induces genomic and behavioral alterations in the striatum. Previously we demonstrated that ritanserin, a 5HT2/1C receptor antagonist, is not responsible for cocaine-induced behavioral alterations and zif268 mRNA gene expression in the striatum (see the previous paper in this issue). In this study, it was hypothesized that dopamine and 5HT2/1C receptors are required for cocaine-induced behavioral... -
Ritanserin, a 5HT2/1C Receptor Antagonist, Does Not Block Cocaine- Induced Behavioral Alterations and zif268 mRNA Expression in the Striatum of the Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 3 355-359 (5 pages)
Cocaine induces immediate early gene expression and behavioral changes by blocking dopamine transporters in the terminals of nigrostriatal neurons in the striatum. The pharmacological role of serotonin 2/1C (5HT2/1C) receptors in cocaine-induced expression of zif268 (NGFI-A, egr1 and Krox-24) mRNA, a member of the zinc finger, was investigated using quantitative in situ hybridization histochemistry in vivo. Behavioral alterations induced by cocaine were also monitored in relation with blockade... -
Glucose/Oxygen Deprivation Induces Release of [3H]5-hydroxytryptamine Associated with Synapsin 1 Expression in Rat Hippocampal Slices
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 2 347-353 (7 pages)
5-HT and the changes of the above proteins were also investigated. GOD for 20 minutes enhanced release of [3H]5-HT, which was in part blocked by the NMDA receptor antagonist, APV. The augmented expression of synapsin 1 during GOD for 20 minutes, which was also in part prevented by APV. In contrast, the expression of syntaxin and SNAP-25 were not altered during GOD. These results suggest that ischemic insult induces release of [3H]5-HT associated with synapsin 1, synaptic vesicular protein, via... -
Effects of Cholecystokinin Octapeptide on Neuronal Activities in the Rat Nucleus Tractus Solitarius
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.4 2 275-281 (7 pages)
Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a gastrointestinal hormone which plays an important role in satiety and gastric motility. It is also widely distributed throughout the central nervous system, where it appears to be involved in the central control of anxiety, feeding behavior and nociception. Two distinct CCK receptor types, CCKA and CCKB, have been found in the brain. Both CCK receptors coexist in the rat nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS), which is the primary center for the coordination of peripheral... -
Neurotensin Enhances Gastric Motility in Antral Circular Muscle Strip of Guinea-pig
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 7 227-234 (8 pages)
Many reports suggest that neurotensin (NT) in the gastrointestinal tract may play a possible role as a neurotransmitter, a circulating hormone, or a modulator of motor activity. NT exerts various actions in the intestine; it produces contractile and relaxant responses in intestinal smooth muscle. This study was designed to investigate the effect of NT on motility of antral circular muscle strips in guinea-pig stomach. To assess the role of Ca2 influx in underlying mechanism, slow waves... -

We examined the neurotoxic effects of 3 glutathione (GSH) depletors, buthionine sulfoximine (BSO), diethyl maleate (DEM) and phorone, under the presence of trolox, cycloheximide (CHX), pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) or MK-801 in primary mouse cortical cell cultures. All three depletors induced neuronal death in dose and exposure time dependent manner, and decreased total cellular GSH contents. The patterns of the neuronal death and the GSH decrements were dependent on the individual agents....
