Effects of Insulin and IGFS on Growth and Functional Differentiation in Primary Cultured Rabbit Kidney Proximal Tubule Cells -Growth and membrane transport-
12 Pages
1 191-202 (12 pages)
The purpose of this study was to compare effects of insulin and IGFs on growth, apical membrane enzyme activities and membrane transport systems of primary cultured rabbit kidney proximal tubule cells. Results were as follows: 1. Insulin and IGF-I produced significant growth stimulatory effects at 5 X 10-10M. IGF-II(5 X 10 -10 M) did not stimulate significant cell growth. 2. Insulin stimulated the phosphorylation of a 97 KD protein. It was difficult to determine whether this band represents... -
Effects of High Glucose on Na,K-ATPase and Na/glucose Cotransporter Activity in Primary Rabbit Kidney Proximal Tubule Cells
12 Pages
7 69-80 (12 pages)
Renal proximal tubular hypertrophy and hyperfunction are known to be early manifestations of experimental and human diabetes. As the hypertrophy and hyperfunction have been suggested to be central components in the progression to renal failure, an understanding of their underlying causes is potentially important for the development of therapy. A primary rabbit kidney proximal tubule cell culture system was utilized to evaluate the possibility that the renal proximal tubular hypertrophy and... -
Properties of Single K+ Channels of Skeletal Muscle Incorporated into Planar Lipid Bilayer
2 13-28 (16 pages)
single K+ channels of skeletal muscle from the rat and frog were into planar lipid bilayers and their properties were studied. Fusion was induced by an osmotic gradient. Of the four types of K+ channels recorded, the two most frequently observed were a voltage and Ca2+-activated K+ channel and a K+ channel with a prominent conductance substate. The first K+ channel was identified as the large Ca2+-activated K+ (BK) channel because the open-state probability was increased with depolarization... -
Role of Na+Ca2+ Exchange in the Control of Contractility in Rabbit Basilar Arterial Smooth Muscle
10 Pages
6 159-168 (10 pages)
The contraction of rabbit basilar artery was examined as a function of changes in the Na+ electrochemical gradient in order to determine the contribution of Na+/Ca2+ exchange to the modulation of contractility. Ouabain (10-5 M) or K+-free Tyrode solution caused an increase in tonic tension even in the presence of a Ca2+ channel blocker (10-6 M verapamil) and an α-receptor blocker (10-5 M phentolamine). After treatment with ouabain (10-5 M), contractions were augmented by reduction of external... -
Calcium-activated Ionic Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells from Rabbit Superior Mesenteric Artery
8 Pages
5 151-158 (8 pages)
Intracellular free Ca2+ contributes to regulation of various events occurring in vascular smooth muscle cells. One of these events is modulating the membrane iou currents. Single smooth muscle cells were isolated from rabbit mesenteric artery. Three kinds of Ca2+-activated current were studied with the patch clamp method. Ca2+-activated K+ current with a large oscillation was recorded in the depolarized potential range. The single channel conductance of this current was about 250 pS. It was... -
Ca2+-activated Cl- Current in Gastric Antral Myocytes
8 Pages
4 143-150 (8 pages)
The whole-cell mode of the patch clamp technique was used to study Ca2+-activated Cl- current (IClCa) in gastric antral myocytes. Extracellular application of caffeine evoked Ca2+-activated current. In order to isolate the chloride current from background current, all known systems were blocked with specific blockers. The current-voltage relationship of caffeine-induced current showed outward rectification and it reversed at around ECl-. The shift of reversal potential upon the alteration of... -
Functional Characteristics of Lumbar Spinal Neurons Projecting to Midbrain Area in Rats
10 Pages

neurons recorded in superficial dorsal horn (SDH). Large complex inhibitory and/or excitatory receptive fields were found for cells in lateral reticulated area which usually showed long after-discharge. Most of SMT cells received inputs from Aδ and C afferent fiber types. These results suggest that sensory neurons in the rat SMT may have different functional roles according to their location in the spinal cord in integrating and processing sensory inputs including noxious mechanical stimuli. -
Motor Areas of the Cerebral Cortex-New Vistas

novel techniques of PET and MRI, provides evidence of corresponding motor areas. Each area has its unique sources of inputs from the thalamus and from other parts of the cerebral cortex. To understand functional roles of these multiple motor areas, it is necessary to study neural activity while subjects are performing a variety of motor tasks. In view of high accuracy in spatial and temporal resolution, the analysis of single cells in relation to specific aspects of motor behavior remains to be... -

Effects of Centrally Administered Angiotensin ll Receptor Antagonists on the Cardiovascular and Hormonal Responses to Hemorrhage in Conscious SHR
Seo, Il-Sook, Yang, Eun-Kyoung, Park, Jae-Sik, Kim, Hyeong-Jin, Lee, Won-Jung 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 10 Pages

was attenuated by icv Ang ll antagonists: the effect was more pronounced in SHR than in WKY rats. Centrally administered losartan and saralasin produced remarkably similar effects on the cardiovascular function and vasopressin responses to hemorrhage. These data suggest that brain Ang ll acting primarily through AT, receptors plays an important physiological role in mediating rapid cardiovascular regulation and vasopressin release in response to hemorrhage especially in Hypertensive rats.
