Characterization of Antibacterial Strains against Kiwifruit Bacterial Canker Pathogen
Min-Jung Kim, Dae-Han Chae, Gyeongjun Cho, Da-Ran Kim, Youn-Sig Kwak 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 13 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 5호 8 473-485 (13 pages)
Kiwifruit (Actinidia spp.) is an economically important crop and a bacterial canker disease, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa), is the most destructive disease in kiwifruit production. Therefore, prevent and control of the disease is a critical issue in kiwifruit industry worldwide. Unfortunately, there is no reliable control methods have been developed. Recently, interest in disease control using microbial agents is growing. However, kiwifruit microbiota and their roles in the... -
Survival Factor Gene FgSvf1 Is Required for Normal Growth and Stress Resistance in Fusarium graminearum

abolished. Although the FgSvf1 deletion mutant produced perithecia, the normal maturation of ascospore was dismissed in deletion mutant. The FgSvf1 deletion mutant also showed reduced resistance to osmotic, fungicide, and cold stress and reduced sensitivity to oxidative stress when compared to the wild-type strain. In addition, we showed that FgSvf1 affects glycolysis, which results in the abnormal vegetative growth in the FgSvf1 deletion mutant. Further, intracellular reactive oxygen species... -
Hydrogen Peroxide Prompted Lignification Affects Pathogenicity of Hemi-biotrophic Pathogen Bipolaris sorokiniana to Wheat
Ajit Poudel, Sudhir Navathz, Ramesh Chand, Vinod K. Mishra, Pawan K. Singh, Arun K. Joshi 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 4호 1 287-300 (14 pages)
Spot blotch caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana has spread to more than 9 million ha of wheat in the warm, humid areas of the Eastern Gangetic Plains (EGP) of South Asia and is a disease of major concern in other similar wheat growing regions worldwide. Differential lignin content in resistant and susceptible genotypes and its association with free radicals such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), superoxide (O2 -) and hydroxyl radical (OH-) were studied after inoculation under field conditions for two... -
Variation in the Resistance of Japanese Soybean Cultivars to Phytophthora Root and Stem Rot during the Early Plant Growth Stages and the Effects of a Fungicide Seed Treatment
Hajime Akamatsu, Masayasu Kato, Sunao Ochi, Genki Mimuro, Jun-ichi Matsuoka, Mami Takahashi 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 15 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 3호 4 219-233 (15 pages)
Soybean cultivars susceptible to Phytophthora root and stem rot are vulnerable to seed rot and damping-off of seedlings and young plants following an infection by Phytophthora sojae. In this study, the disease responses of Japanese soybean cultivars including currently grown main cultivars during the early growth stages were investigated following infections by multiple P. sojae isolates from Japanese fields. The extent of the resistance to 17 P. sojae isolates after inoculations at 14, 21, and... -
DevelDevelopment of a Quantitative Real-time Nucleic Acid Sequence based Amplification (NASBA) Assay for Early Detection of Apple scar skin viroid-time Nucleic Acid Sequence based Amplification (NASBA) Assay for Early Detection of Apple scar skin viroid
Seong Heo, Hyun Ran Kim, Hee Jae Lee 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 2호 8 164-171 (8 pages)
An assay for detecting Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) was developed based on nucleic acid sequence based amplification (NASBA) in combination with realtime detection during the amplification process using molecular beacon. The ASSVd specific primers for amplification of the viroid RNA and molecular beacon for detecting the viroid were designed based on highly conserved regions of several ASSVd sequences including Korean isolate. The assay had a detection range of 1 × 104 to 1 × 1012 ASSVd RNA... -
Effect on Colony Growth Inhibition of Soil-Borne Fungal Pathogens by Available Chlorine Content in Sodium Hypochlorite
Sung-Hee Lee, Hyunman Shin, Ju-Hyoung Kim, Kyoung-Yul Ryu, Heung Tae Kim, Byeongjin Cha, Jae-Soon Cha 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 2호 7 156-163 (8 pages)
Our study investigated the available chlorine content, contact time and difference among strains of each pathogen for sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) to control chemically against soil-borne fungal pathogens, such as Phytophthora rot by Phytophthora cactorum, violet root rot by Helicobasidium mompa, and white root rot by Rosellinia necatrix, causing die-back symptom on apple trees. As a result, the colony growth of Phytophthora cactorum was inhibited completely by soaking over 5 s in 31.25 ml/l... -
Rapid Detection of SdhBP225F and SdhBH272R Mutations in Boscalid Resistant Botrytis cinerea Strains by ARMS-PCR

gels. The tetra-primer ARMS-PCR systems for SdhBP225F and SdhBH272R were validated by 9 SdhB-squenced strains repeatedly. Then, sensitivity of 30 more strains were also tested by the methods, which were accordant with genotypes by sequencing and the sensitivity of conidial germination to boscalid by 100%. Thus, the methods developed in this study are proved to be rapid, inexpensive, accurate and practical for resistance detection of Botrytis cinerea caused by SdhBP225F and SdhBH272R mutations. -

on reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification is described. This assay has been shown to be reproducible and able to detect as little as 4.7 ng/μl of purified RNA obtained from an ASGV-infected plant. The major advantage of this assay is that the reaction for the target virus is completed in 1 min, and amplification only requires an incubation temperature of 42°C. This assay is a promising alternative method for pear breeding programs or virus-free certification laboratories. -

Green I to mixture and 1% agarose gel electrophoresis. Positive reactions were achieved in reaction temperature 57, 60 and 62℃ but not 65℃. Although this LAMP method was not more sensitive than real-time PCR, it does not require a thermocycler for amplification or agarose gel electrophoresis for resolution. Thus, we expect that this LAMP method shows strong promise as a reliable, rapid, and cost-effective method of detecting the CLas in citrus and can be applied for rapid diagnosis is needed. -
Biogenic Volatile Compounds for Plant Disease Diagnosis and Health Improvement
Rouhallah Sharifi, Choong-Min Ryu 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2018, 34권 6호 1 459-469 (11 pages)
Plants and microorganisms (microbes) use information from chemicals such as volatile compounds to understand their environments. Proficiency in sensing and responding to these infochemicals increases an organism’s ecological competence and ability to survive in competitive environments, particularly with regard to plant-pathogen interactions. Plants and microbes acquired the ability to sense and respond to biogenic volatiles during their evolutionary history. However, these signals can only be...
