Regulator of Calcineurin 1 Isoform 4 (RCAN1.4) Is Overexpressed in the Glomeruli of Diabetic Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.5 8 299-306 (8 pages)
Calcineurin (CaN) is activated in diabetes and plays a role in glomerular hypertrophy and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. Here, kidneys from diabetic model mice were investigated for the expression of the regulator of CaN 1 (RCAN1) isoform 4 (RCAN1.4) which had been shown to be transcriptionally upregulated by CaN activation. We found the increased immunoreactivity for RCAN1 in the glomerular cells of db/db mice and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. In concordance, the expression of... -
Metformin Inhibits Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.6 5 377-384 (8 pages)
The present study examined whether metformin treatment prevents isoporterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in mice. Chronic subcutaneous infusion of isoproterenol (15 mg/kg/24 h) for 1 week using an osmotic minipump induced cardiac hypertrophy measured by the heart-to-body weight ratio and left ventricular posterior wall thickness. Cardiac hypertrophy was accompanied with increased interleukin-6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor (TGF)-Ղ, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), collagen I and... -
Differential Expression of Metabolism-related Genes in Liver of Diabetic Obese Rats

(OLETF) rat, a model of spontaneous type 2 diabetes (T2D), develops hyperglycemic obesity with hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance after the age of 25 weeks, similar to patients with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DM). In the present study, we determined whether there are differences in the pattern of gene expression related to glucose and lipid metabolism between OLETF rats and their control counterparts, Long-Evans Tokushima (LETO) rats. The experiment was done using 35-week-old... -
Intraocular Injection of Muscimol Induces Illusory Motion Reversal in Goldfish
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 10 469-473 (5 pages)
Induced activation of the gamma-aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) receptor in the retina of goldfish caused the fish to rotate in the opposite direction to that of the spinning pattern during an optomotor response (OMR) measurement. Muscimol, a GABAA receptor agonist, modified OMR in a concentration- dependent manner. The GABAB receptor agonist baclofen and GABAC receptor agonist CACA did not affect OMR. The observed modifications in OMR included decreased anterograde rotation... -
Deficiency of iNOS Does Not Prevent Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 3 153-159 (7 pages)
We investigated whether deficiency of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) could prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in iNOS knockout (KO) mice. Isoproterenol was continuously infused subcutaneously (15 mg/kg/day) using an osmotic minipump. Isoproterenol reduced body weight and fat mass in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice compared with saline-infused wild-type mice. Isoproterenol increased the heart weight in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice but there was no difference between iNOS... -
Single-Channel Recording of TASK-3-like K+ Channel and Up- Regulation of TASK-3 mRNA Expression after Spinal Cord Injury in Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons
InseokJang, Jun-HoLa, Gyu-TaeKim, Jeong-SoonLee, Eun-JinKim, Eun-ShinLee, Su-JeongKim, Jeong-MinSeo, Sang-HoAhn, Jae-YongPark, Seong-GeunH 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

pH was changed from 7.3 to 6.3, indicating that the DRG K+ channel is similar to cloned TASK-3 channel. TASK-3 mRNA and protein levels in brain, spinal cord, and DRG were significantly higher in injured animals than in sham-operated ones. These results indicate that TASK-3 channels are expressed and functional in DRG neurons and the expression level is up-regulated following SCI, and suggest that TASK-3 channel could act as a potential background K+ channel under SCI-induced acidic condition. -
Nitric Oxide Donor, NOR-3, Increased Expression of Cyclooxygenase-2, but not of Cyclooxygenase-1 in Cultured VSMC

(VSMC). VSMC was primarily cultured from thoracic aorta of rat. In this experiments, COX-1 and COX-2 mRNA/protein expressions were analysed and nitrite productions were investigated using Griess reagent. VSMC did not express COX-2 protein in basal condition (Non- lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated). In LPS-stimulated experiments, after 3 hours of NO donor pretreatment, LPS 10μg/ml was treated for 24 hours. COX-1 protein expressions were unchanged by SNP and NOR-3. NOR-3 significantly increased... -
Temporal Changes in Neuronal Activity of the Bilateral Medial Vestibular Nuclei Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.5 4 481-490 (10 pages)
To investigate the changes in the responses of vestibular neurons with time during vestibular compensation, the resting activity and dynamic responses of type I and II neurons in the medial vestibular nuclei to sinusoidal angular acceleration were recorded following unilateral labyrinthectomy (ULX) in Sprague-Dawley rats. The unitary extracellular neuronal activity was recorded from the bilateral medial vestibular nuclei with stainless steel microelectrodes of 3∼5 MΩ before ULX, and 6, 24,... -

in UHR individuals revealed that hostility perception bias was associated with reflective self and composite blame bias was associated with reflective and pre-reflective self. Conclusion_This study supports the emergence of attribution biases in the putative ‘prodromal’ phase of schizophrenia. The associations of biased attribution styles with multifaceted self-related psychological constructs suggest that psychosocial interventions for biased attribution styles in UHR individuals should focus... -
