An in vitro Actinidia Bioassay to Evaluate the Resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae
Faming Wang, Jiewei Li, Kaiyu Ye, Pingping Liu, Hongjuan Gong, Qiaosheng Jiang, Beibei Qi, Quanhui Mo 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
9 372-380 (9 pages)
Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is by far the most important pathogen of kiwifruit. Sustainable expansion of the kiwifruit industry requires the use of Psa-tolerant or resistant genotypes for the breeding of tolerant cultivars. However, the resistance of most existing kiwifruit cultivars and wild genotypes is poorly understood, and suitable evaluation methods of Psa resistance in Actinidia have not been established. A unique in vitro method to evaluate Psa resistance has been developed... -
Identification of Proteomic Components Associated with Resistance to Fusarium Head Blight in Rye
Dawid Perlikowski, Halina Wi?, niewska;Tomasz G?ral, Piotr Ochodzki, Maciej Majka, Izabela Pawłowicz, Jolanta Belter, Arkadiusz Kosmala 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 15 Pages
3 313-327 (15 pages)
Rye was used here to dissect molecular mechanisms of resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) and to go deeper with our understanding of that process in cereals. F. culmorum-damaged kernels of two lines different in their potential of resistance to FHB were analyzed using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to identify resistance markers. The proteome profiling was accompanied by measurements of a- and b-amylase activities and mycotoxin content. The proteomic studies... -
A Novel Protein Elicitor PeBL2, from Brevibacillus laterosporus A60, Induces Systemic Resistance against Botrytis cinerea in Tobacco Plant
Ghulam Hussain Jatoi, Guo Lihua, Yang Xiufen, Muswar Ali Gadhi, Azhar Uddin Keerio, Yusuf Ali Abdulle, Dewen Qiu 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
3 208-218 (11 pages)
Here, we reported a novel secreted protein elicitor PeBL2 from Brevibacillus laterosporus A60, which can induce hypersensitive response in tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana). The ion-exchange chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry were performed for identification of protein elicitor. The 471 bp PeBL2 gene produces a 17.22 kDa protein with 156 amino acids containing an 84-residue signal peptide. Consistent with endogenous protein, the recombinant protein... -
Antimicrobial Activity of Various Parts of Tomato Plants Varied with Different Solvent Extracts
Dong Sub Kim, Yurina Kwack, Jung Heon Lee, Changhoo Chun 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
6 149-155 (7 pages)
The antimicrobial activity of acetone, hexane, dichloromethane, and methanol extracts from leaves, stems, immature green fruits, and red fruits of tomato plants was examined against six phytopathogens. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the acetonic extracts from these four plant parts was lower than that of the other solvents. Among the acetonic extracts, tomato leaves had a lower MIC than the other tomato parts. The acetonic extract from tomato leaves was therefore selected as a... -
Biogenic Volatile Compounds for Plant Disease Diagnosis and Health Improvement
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
1 459-469 (11 pages)
Plants and microorganisms (microbes) use information from chemicals such as volatile compounds to understand their environments. Proficiency in sensing and responding to these infochemicals increases an organism’s ecological competence and ability to survive in competitive environments, particularly with regard to plant-pathogen interactions. Plants and microbes acquired the ability to sense and respond to biogenic volatiles during their evolutionary history. However, these signals can only be... -
Comparison of Endophytic Microbial Community in Kiwifruit Plant Cultivars
Gyeongjun Cho, Min-jung Kim, Youngho Kwon, Youn-Sig Kwak 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
9 341-346 (6 pages)
The microbiome makes a significant contribution to plant health and endophytes may generate positive effects for the host. However, there is a limited knowledge available concerning the kiwifruit endophyte. Therefore, we discuss endophyte microbiome community structures among the kiwifruit cultivars. Total reads numbered 17620 in cv. Hayward, 11515 in cv. Haegeum and 13613 in cv. Jecygold. The number of OTUs was follows: 112 in cv. Hageum; and 87 in cvs. Hayward and Jecygold. Most of the... -

suggesting that Heterodera population collected from the Chinese cabbage field consisted of a mixture of two species. COI and ITS of H. trifolii were predominantly amplified from nucleotides prepared from H. trifolii monoxenic population whereas those of H. schachtii were strongly detected in H. schachtii monoxenic cultures. Thus, this study confirms the coexistence of the two species in some Chinese cabbage fields; and the presence of H. trifolii in Korea is reported here for the first time. -
Optical Sensing for Evaluating the Severity of Disease Caused by Cladosporium sp. in Barley under Warmer Conditions
The Plant Pathology Journal 5 Pages
9 236-240 (5 pages)
Crop yield is critically related to the physiological responses and disease resistance of the crop, which could be strongly affected by high temperature conditions. We observed the changes in the growth of barley under higher than ambient air-temperature conditions using a temperature gradient field chamber (TGFC) during winter and spring. Before the stem extension stage of barley growth, Cladosporium sp. spontaneously appeared in the TGFC. The severity of disease became serious under warmer... -
Management of Citrus Canker in Argentina, a Success Story
The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
1 441-449 (9 pages)
Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon which causes cyclic fluctuations on the disease intensity in the NE region. Weather-based logistic regression models adjusted to quantify disease levels in field conditions showed that the environmental effect was strongly modulated by the distance from a windbreak. Production of healthy fruits in citrus canker endemic areas is possible knowing the dynamics of the disease. A voluntary Integrated Plan to Reduce the Risk of Canker has been in place since 1994 and it... -
Characterization of the rcsA Gene from Pantoea sp. Strain PPE7 and Its Influence on Extracellular Polysaccharide Production and Virulence on Pleurotus eryngii
The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
6 276-287 (12 pages)
acid homology to the helix-turn-helix DNA binding motif of bacterial activator proteins. The inactivation of rcsA by insertional mutagenesis created mutants that had decreased production of EPS compared to the wild-type strain and abolished the virulence of Pantoea sp. strain PPE7 in P. eryngii. The Pantoea sp. strain PPE7 rcsA gene was shown to strongly affect the formation of the disease symptoms of a mushroom pathogen and to act as the virulence factor to cause soft rot disease in P. eryngii.
