and G2/M phases, and the maximum effects were observed at 1500 or 2000 cGy. Submaximal concentrations of antioxidants, such as allopurinol, vitamin C, N-acetylcycteine (NAC), lipoic acid, dihydrolipoic acid and rebamipide tended to increase the cell viability suppressed by low dose of radiation (500 cGy), and enalapril and vitamin E increased it significantly. Allopurinol, vitamin E, NAC, lipoic acid, captopril and enalapril significantly increased G1 phase. Allopurinol and vitamin E tended to... -

phobol 12,13-dibutyrate ([3H]PDBu) binding assay, indicating that non-coplanar PCBs are more neuroactive than coplanar PCBs in neuronal cells. PKC isozymes were immunoblotted with the selected monoclonal antibodies. PKC-α, δ, and ε were activated with non-coplanar PCB exposure. Receptor for activated C kinase-1 (RACK-1), anchoring protein for activated PKC, was more induced with exposure to coplanar PCBs than non-coplanar PCBs. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) analysis showed induction of... -
Effects of Norepinephrine and Neuropeptide Y on the Contractility of Small Mesenteric Artery from 2K1C and DOCA-Salt Hypertensive Rats

2K1C and DOCA- salt hypertension were made in Sprague-Dawley rats. Four weeks after induction of hypertension, systolic blood pressure measured in conscious state was significantly higher in 2K1C (216⁑18 mmHg) and DOCA-salt (205⁑29 mmHg) groups than that in control (128⁑4 mmHg). The third branches (<300 μm in outer diameter) of the mesenteric artery were isolated and cut into ring segments of 2∼3 mm in length. Each ring segment was mounted in tissue bath and connected to a... -
Effect of Propofol, an Intravenous Anesthetic Agent, on KATP Channels of Pancreatic β-cells in Rats

was 0.73⁑0.11. Single channel conductance calculated from the slope of the relationship between single channel current and pipette potential (20∼100 mV) was not significantly altered by propofol (control: 60.0⁑2.7 pS, 0.1 mM propofol: 58.7⁑3.5 pS). However, mean closed time was surely increased. Above results indicate that propofol blocks the KATP channels in the pancreatic beta cells in the range of its blood concentrations during anesthesia, suggesting a... -
Effect of Capsaicin on Delayed Rectifier K+ Current in Adult Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons

K currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier K current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the... -
Effects of Cl Channel Blockers on the Cardiac ATP-sensitive K+ Channel

2'-disulfonic acid (DIDS) and niflumic acid applied to bath solution inhibited the KATP channel activity in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 of 0.24 and 927μM, respectively. The inhibitory action of DIDS was irreversible whereas that of niflumic acid was reversible. Furthermore, DIDS-induced block was not recovered despite exposure to ATP (1 mM). In cell-attached and inside-out patches, DIDS blocked the pinacidil- or 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP)-induced KATP channel openings. In contrast,... -
The Role of Intracellular Mg2+ in Regulation of Ca2+-activated K+ Channel in Pulmonary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells of the Rabbit

by mainly enhancement of Po. However, at very high concentration of cytoplasmic Ca2+, such as pCa 5.5, Mg2+ decreased IK,Ca through the inhibition of unitary current. Moreover, Mg2+ could activate the channel even in the absence of Ca2+. Mg2+ might, therefore, partly contribute to the opening of IK,Ca channel in resting membrane potential. This phenomenon might explain why IK,Ca contributes to the resting membrane potential where membrane potential and concentration of free Ca2+ are very low. -
Protective Mechanism of Nitric Oxide and Mucus against Ischemia/ Reperfusion-Induced Gastric Mucosal Injury

This study investigated the role of nitric oxide on the oxidative damage in gastric mucosa of rats which received ischemia/reperfusion and its relation to mucus. Nitric oxide synthesis modulators such as L-arginine and NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, and sodium nitroprusside, a nitric oxide donor, were injected intraperitoneally to the rats 30 min prior to ischemia/reperfusion which was induced by clamping the celiac artery and the superior mesenteric artery for 30 min and reperfusion for 1... -
Platelet-Activating Factor Enhances Interleukin-1 Activity by Alveolar Macrophages Inhibition by PAF Specific Receptor Antagonists

or lipopolysaccharide(LPS) to AM cultures markedly enhanced IL-1 activity by 2-3 fold compared with AM cultures with the stimulant alone in a concentration dependent fashion. The peack effect was found at 108 M PAF with MDP and 1014 M PAF with LPS. the effect of PAF was also tested in silica, toxic respirable dust, -added AM cultures as well as in the cultures containing bacterial compounds. Although silica did not stimulate the IL-1 activity, PAF could enhance IL-1 activity by 2...
