Molecular heterogeneity of plpE gene in Indian isolates of Pasteurella multocida and expression of recombinant PlpE in vaccine strain of P. multocida serotype B: 2
Ajay Pratap Singh, Satparkash Singh, Rajeev Ranjan*, Santosh Kumar Gupta, Vijendra Pal Singh, Bhaskar Sharma 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 3호 8 227-233 (7 pages)
Outer membrane proteins of Pasteurella (P.) multocida have been known to be protective immunogens. Pasteurella lipoprotein E (PlpE) has been reported to be an important cross reactive outer membrane protein in P. multocida. The gene encoding the PlpE of P. multocida serotypes A: 3, B: 2 and D: 1 was amplified from the genomic DNA. The amplified products were cloned and the nucleotide sequence was determined. Sequence analysis of the recombinant clones revealed a single open reading frame of... -
Development of the body condition score system in Murrah buffaloes: validation through ultrasonic assessment of body fat reserves

subjective scoring method of evaluating the energy reserves of dairy animals to provide better understanding of biological relationships between body fat, milk production and reproduction. This method helps in adopting the optimum management practices to derive maximum production and maintain optimum health of the livestock. In this study, a new BCS system was developed for Murrah buffaloes. The skeletal check points were identified by studying the anatomical features and amount of fat reserves... -
Anti-obesity activity of diglyceride containing conjugated linoleic acid in C57BL/6J ob/ob mice
Jin-Joo Hue, Ki Nam Lee, Jae-Hwang Jeong, Sang-Hwa Lee, Young Ho Lee, Seong-woon Jeong, Sang Yoon Nam, Young Won Yun, Beom Jun L 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 3 189-195 (7 pages)
This study was to investigate the anti-obesity effects of diglyceride (DG)-conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) containing 22% CLA as fatty acids in C57BL/6J ob/ob male mice. There were four experimental groups including vehicle control, DG, CLA, and DG-CLA. The test solutions of 750 mg/kg dose were orally administered to the mice everyday for 5 weeks. CLA treatments significantly decreased mean body weight in the obese mice throughout the experimental period compared to the control (p < 0.01). All... -
All blood, No stool: enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection
Jang W. Yoon, Carolyn J. Hovde 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 14 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 3호 1 219-232 (14 pages)
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serotype O157:H7 is a pathotype of diarrheagenic E. coli that produces one or more Shiga toxins, forms a characteristic histopathology described as attaching and effacing lesions, and possesses the large virulence plasmid pO157. The bacterium is recognized worldwide, especially in developed countries, as an emerging food-borne bacterial pathogen, which causes disease in humans and in some animals. Healthy cattle are the principal and natural reservoir of E.... -
Development of immunoassays for the detection of kanamycin in veterinary fields

in animal plasma and milk. The monoclonal antibody produced was identified to be IgG1, which has a kappa light chain. No cross-reactivity of the antibody was detected with other aminoglycosides, indicating that the monoclonal antibody was highly specific for kanamycin. Based on competitive direct ELISA, the detection limits of kanamycin were determined to be 1.1 ng/ml in PBS, 1.4 ng/ml in plasma, and 1.0 ng/ml in milk. The concentration of intramuscularly injected kanamycin was successfully... -
Characterization of lymphocyte subpopulations and major histocompatibility complex haplotypes of mastitis-resistant and susceptible cows

Bovine mastitis is an infectious disease with a major economic influence on the dairy industry worldwide. Many factors such as environment, pathogen, and host affect susceptibility or resistance of an individual cow to bovine mastitis. Recently, there has been considerable interest in defining genetic and immunological markers that could be used to select for improved disease resistance. In this study we have analyzed the lymphocyte subpopulations of mastitis-resistant and susceptible cows using... -
Inherited canine copper toxicosis in Australian Bedlington Terriers
Changbaig Hyun and Lucio John Filippich 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 4 19-28 (10 pages)
Inherited copper toxicosis in Bedlington Terriers (CTBT) is a copper associated hepatopathy caused by an autosomal recessive genetic defect of gene involving copper metabolism. To compare clinical and histopathological findings with previous reports and to expand our knowledge for future genetic studies, 18 terriers were clinically and histopathologically examined in this study. Pedigree information and dietary history were obtained from the owners before a thorough clinical examination was... -

Accurate estimation of the exposure-response relationship between ambient urban particulate matters (PM) and public health is important for regulatory perspective of ambient urban particulate matters (PM). Ambient PM contains various transition metals and organic compounds. PM10 (aerodynamic diameter less than 10 μm) is known to induce diverse diseases such as chronic cough, bronchitis, chest illness, etc. However, recent evaluation of PM2.5 (aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm) against... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 1호 10 67-72 (6 pages)
The objectives of the present study were to compare the in vitro maturation (IVM), fertilization and early embryonic development of bovine oocytes recovered from ovaries during the follicular, metestrus and diestrus stages of the estrous cycle and at anestrus and pregnancy after maturation in a serum free culture medium. Cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) collected from ovaries at different reproductive statuses were matured in medium 199 supplemented with 10 g/ml FSH, 10 g/ml LH, 1.5 g/m... -
Detection of Cadmium in Mineral Salt Commercial Mixturesfor Beef Cattle
Wilmar Sachetin Marcal, Paulo Eduardo Pardo, Marcos Roberto Lopes do Nascimento, Marcio Liboni and Marcio de Nadai Bonin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 2호 12 141-144 (4 pages)
The cadmium concentrations in mineral mixtures used in beef cattle feed in the states of Sao Paulo and Parana, Brazil was measured. The cadmium concentration was determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Of the 36 analyzed samples, 35 had values > 0.5 ppm (range 0.5 to 11.2 ppm), which is the maximum concentration recommended [4, 18]. These findings show the necessity for careful industrial monitoring, as some mineral mixtures contain sufficient cadmium to cause...
