Journal of Dental Implant Research 19 Pages
2 10-28 (19 pages)
Induction of Systemic Resistance against Bacterial Leaf Streak Disease and Growth Promotion in Rice Plant by Streptomyces shenzhenesis TKSC3 and Streptomyces sp. SS8
Erneeza Mohd Hata, Mohd Termizi Yusof, Dzarifah Zulperi 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
8 173-181 (9 pages)
The genus Streptomyces demonstrates enormous prom- ise in promoting plant growth and protecting plants against various pathogens. Single and consortium treat- ments of two selected Streptomyces strains (Streptomyces shenzhenensis TKSC3 and Streptomyces sp. SS8) were evaluated for their growth-promoting potential on rice, and biocontrol efficiency through induced systemic re- sistance (ISR) mediation against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), the causal agent of rice bacterial leaf streak... -
Occurrence of Leaf Spot Disease Caused by Alternaria crassa (Sacc.) Rands on Jimson Weed and Potential Additional Host Plants in Algeria

7 179-184 (6 pages)
A leaf spot pathogen Alternaria sp. was recovered from jimson weed, tomato, parsley, and coriander collected during surveys of blight diseases on Solanaceae and Apiaceae in Algeria. This species produced large conidi- al body generating long apical beaks that tapered grad- ually from a wide base to a narrow tip and short co- nidiophores originating directly from the agar surface. This species exhibited morphological traits similar to that reported for Alternaria crassa. The identification of... -
Salicylic Acid as a Safe Plant Protector and Growth Regulator
Young Mo Koo, A Yeong Heo, Hyong Woo Choi The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
1 1-10 (10 pages)
Since salicylic acid (SA) was discovered as an elicitor of tobacco plants inducing the resistance against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) in 1979, increasing reports suggest that SA indeed is a key plant hormone regulating plant immunity. In addition, recent studies indicate that SA can regulate many different responses, such as tolerance to abiotic stress, plant growth and development, and soil microbiome. In this review, we focused on the recent findings on SA’s effects on resistance to biotic... -
Culturing Simpler and Bacterial Wilt Suppressive Microbial Communities from Tomato Rhizosphere
Nazish Roy, Kihyuck Choi, Raees Khan, Seon-Woo Lee 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 13 Pages
8 362-374 (13 pages)
Plant phenotype is affected by a community of associated microorganisms which requires dissection of the functional fraction. In this study, we aimed to culture the functionally active fraction of an upland soil microbiome, which can suppress tomato bacterial wilt. The microbiome fraction (MF) from the rhizosphere of Hawaii 7996 treated with an upland soil or forest soil MF was successively cultured in a designed modified M9 (MM9) medium partially mimicking the nutrient composition of tomato... -
Diffusible and Volatile Antifungal Compounds Produced by an Antagonistic Bacillus velezensis G341 against Various Phytopathogenic Fungi
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
6 488-498 (11 pages)
The aim of this study was to identify volatile and agar-diffusible antifungal metabolites produced by Bacillus sp. G341 with strong antifungal activity against various phytopathogenic fungi. Strain G341 isolated from four-year-old roots of Korean ginseng with rot symptoms was identified as Bacillus velezensis based on 16S rDNA and gyrA sequences. Strain G341 inhibited mycelial growth of all phytopathogenic fungi tested. In vivo experiment results revealed that n-butanol extract of fermentation... -
Microbial Population, Aflatoxin Contamination and Predominant Aspergillus Species in Korean Stored Rice
The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
4 121-129 (9 pages)
We evaluated microbial populations and aflatoxin production in unhulled and white rice from rice processing complexes of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in five regions in Korea and identified three predominant Aspergillus species. Fungal and bacterial populations in rice samples were significantly different between regions in 2007. Aflatoxins were also detected and varied at the levels of 2.45 - 3.43 ng per g unhulled rice grain and 1.29 - 2.09 ng per g white rice grain.... -
Survival of Erwinia amylovora on Surfaces of Materials Used in Orchards
Hyun Ju Choi, Yeon Ju Kim, Yeon-Jeong Lim, Duck Hwan Park 한국식물병리학회 식물병연구 5 Pages
6 89-93 (5 pages)
we examined the ability of E. amylovora to survive in soils and on the surfaces of common materials such as T-shirts, wrist bands, pruning shears, and rubber boots by both conventional PCR (cPCR) and quantitative PCR (qPCR) methods. E. amylovora was detected in all materials tested in this study and survived for sufficiently long periods to cause fire blight disease in new sites. Thus, based on the results of this study, sanitation protocols must be applied to equipment during orchard work. -
The First Case of Successful Bark Implantation of a 250-year-old Zelkova Tree Heavily Damaged by Artificial Girdling
Seong Ho Ryu, Gyoung Hee Kim, Young Jin Koh 한국식물병리학회 식물병연구 5 Pages
8 237-241 (5 pages)
which a Vaseline dressing was applied to water-proof the area and rubber bars were used to hold the implants to the trunk. Two pieces of the implanted fresh barks were successfully grafted onto the girdled area and the damaged tree has been vigorously growing over 13 years. To our knowledge, this is the first case of successful bark implantation to cure a 250-year-old zelkova tree heavily damaged by artificial girdling. This bark implantation technique will be utilized for the conversation and... -
