Quantitation of meloxicam in the plasma of koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) by improved high performance liquid chromatography
Benjamin Kimble, Kong Ming Li, Merran Govendir* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 1호 2 7-14 (8 pages)
the calibration curve, which was linear from 10 to 1,000 ng/mL (r > 0.9998). Average absolute recovery rates were 91% and 96% for MEL and the IS, respectively. This method had sufficient sensitivity (lower quantitation limit of 10 ng/mL), precision, accuracy, and selectivity for routine analysis of MEL in koala plasma using 250-mL sample volumes. Our technique clearly resolved the MEL peak from the complex koala plasma matrix and accurately measured MEL concentrations in small plasma volumes. -

with positive urine culture results had higher CRP concentrations (median 43.8 mg/L vs. 5.9 mg/L; p < 0.001). Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.955; when cut-off value was 12.2 mg/L, CRP measurements were found to have a sensitivity of 92.3% and specificity of 86.4%. This result indicates that rapid increases of CRP occurred after inducing bacterial cystitis and CRP may be a useful indicator for monitoring or diagnosing canine bacterial cystitis together with sediment... -
Production of a highly group-specific monoclonal antibody against zearalenone and its application in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
Sang-Ho Cha, Sung-Hee Kim, Karyn Bischoff, Hyun-Jeong Kim, Seong-Wan Son, Hwan-Goo Kang* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 2호 2 119-125 (7 pages)
A monoclonal antibody (mAb) against zearalenone (ZEN) was produced using ZEN-carboxymethoxylamine and -BSA conjugates. Antibody produced by one clone showing a very high binding ability was selected and found to have a higher affinity for ZEN compared to a commerciall ZEN antibody. We developed two direct competitive ELISA systems using the selected antibody (ZEN-coated and anti-ZEN antibody-coated ELISA). Quantitative ranges for the anti-ZEN antibody-coated ELISA and ZEN-coated ELISA were from... -
In vitro toxicity of melamine against Tetrahymena pyriformis cells
Zhengfang Wang, Liben Chen, Rashad Al-Kasir, Bo Han* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 1호 5 27-34 (8 pages)
This study assessed the toxicity of melamine against the unicellular eukaryotic system of Tetrahymena (T.) pyriformis exposed to 0, 0.05, 0.25, 0.5, 2.5, and 5 mg/mL of melamine. Cell growth curves of different cultures, the half maximum inhibition concentration (IC50) value of melamine, and morphological changes in cells were obtained via optical and transmission electron microscopic observation. The effects of eleven melamine concentrations, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 and 5... -
Determination of angiotensin I-converting enzyme activity in equine blood: lack of agreement between methods of analysis
Maria Fernanda de M. Costa*, Adriana K. Carmona, Marcio F. M. Alves, Timothy M. Ryan, Helen M. Davies, Garry A. Anderson, Ron F. 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 1호 4 21-25 (5 pages)
Angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE) is a key regulator of blood pressure, electrolytes and fluid homeostasis through conversion of angiotensin I into angiotensin II. Recently, a genetic polymorphism of the ACE gene, which accounts for 47% of the variation of ACE activity in blood, has been advocated as a biomarker of athletic aptitude. Different methods of analysis and determination of ACE activity in plasma have been used in human and equine research without a consensus of a "gold standard"... -
Optimization of culture media of pathogenic Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae by a response surface methodology
Mi-Hyun Hwang, Dereje Damte, Min-Hee Cho, Young-Hoan Kim, Seung-Chun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 8 327-332 (6 pages)
Composition of culture medium for mass production of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae was optimized using a response surface methodology (RSM). Initially, the influence of glucose, thallium acetate, fresh yeast extract, horse serum, and porcine serum on the production of mycoplasmal protein was assessed using a 'one factor at a time' technique. Next, factors with a significant effect, including fresh yeast extract, and horse and porcine sera, were selected for further optimization using a central... -

was validated with histological examination of pathological samples, in order to evaluate the degree of concordance between endoscopic findings and histological diagnosis. The agreement between endoscopy and histology was tested by application of Cohen's kappa coefficient. We conclude that correlation between endoscopic results and histological diagnosis, expressed by a Cohen's kappa coefficient of 0.73, is only possible with a constant cooperation between the clinician and the pathologist. -
Autoantibodies against thyroid hormones and their influence on thyroxine determination with chemiluminescence immunoassay in dogs
Marion Piechotta*, Michael Arndt, Hans-Otto Hoppen 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 3호 3 191-196 (6 pages)
Autoantibodies against thyroxin (T4AA) and triiodothyronine (T3AA) are present in dogs with autoimmune thyroiditis and have been reported to interfere with immunoassays. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of autoantibodies and to determine whether interference occurs by T4AA, using a non-immunological method (high performance liquid chromatography, HPLC) for thyroxin (T4) measurement. Based on clinical symptoms, T4 and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) concentration,... -
Seroprevalence and risk factors for bovine brucellosis in Jordan
Ahmad M. Al-Majali*, Abdelsalam Q. Talafha, Mustafa M. Ababneh, Mohammed M. Ababneh 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 1호 9 61-65 (5 pages)
We investigated the seroprevalence and risk factors for Brucella seropositivity in cattle in Jordan. The sera from 671 cows were randomly collected from 62 herds. The antibodies against Brucella were detected using a Rose Bengal plate test and indirect ELISA. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information on the cattle herds' health and management. A multiple logistic regression model was constructed to identify the risk factors for Brucella seropositivity. The true prevalence of... -

Vijayarani Kumanan, Sam R. Nugen, Antje J. Baeumner, Yung-Fu Chang* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 1호 6 35-42 (8 pages)
A simple, membrane-strip-based lateral-flow (LF) biosensor assay and a high-throughput microtiter plate assay have been combined with a reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for the detection of a small number (ten) of viable Mycobacterium (M.) avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) cells in fecal samples. The assays are based on the identification of the RNA of the IS900 element of MAP. For the assay, RNA was extracted from fecal samples spiked with a known quantity of (10 to...
