Effect of Neurosteroid Modulation on Global Ischaemia-Reperfusion-Induced Cerebral Injury in Mice

Mexiletine (50 mg/kg, i.p.) did not produce significant neuro-protective effect. It may be concluded that the neuroprotective effect of carbamazepine may be due to increase in synthesis of neurosteroids perhaps by activating enzyme (3α HSD) as indomethacin attenuated the neuroprotective effect of carbamazepine. The sodium channel blocking effect of car-bamazepine may not be involved in neuroprotection as mexiletine, a sodium channel blocker, did not produce significant neuroprotective effect. -

especially, important to Ca2+ and Na+ influx-induced depolarization and contraction, was markedly reduced in the TNBS-induced colitis compared to the control. The muscarinic acetylcholine-mediated contractile responses were significantly attenuated in the circular and longitudinal smooth muscle strips induced by the reduction of membrane expression of canonical transient receptor potential (TRPC) channel isoforms from the proximal colon of the TNBS-induced colitis mouse than the control. -
Sustained K+ Outward Currents are Sensitive to Intracellular Heteropodatoxin2 in CA1 Neurons of Organotypic Cultured Hippocampi of Rats

Blocking or regulating K+ channels is important for investigating neuronal functions in mammalian brains, because voltage-dependent K+ channels (Kv channels) play roles to regulate membrane excitabilities for synaptic and somatic processings in neurons. Although a number of toxins and chemicals are useful to change gating properties of Kv channels, specific effects of each toxin on a particular Kv subunit have not been sufficiently demonstrated in neurons yet. In this study, we tested... -
Gap Junction Contributions to the Goldfish Electroretinogram at the Photopic Illumination Level
Doh-YeonKim, Chang-SubJung 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.3 11 219-224 (6 pages)
Understanding how the b-wave of the electroretinogram (ERG) is generated by full-field light stimulation is still a challenge in visual neuroscience. To understand more about the origin of the b-wave, we studied the contributions of gap junctions to the ERG b-wave. Many types of retinal neurons are connected to similar and different neighboring neurons through gap junctions. The photopic (cone-dominated) ERG, stimulated by a small light beam, was recorded from goldfish (Carassius auratus) using... -
Activation of the cGMP/Protein Kinase G Pathway by Nitric Oxide Can Decrease TRPV1 Activity in Cultured Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons

(TRPV1) via S-nitrosylation of the channel protein. NO also modulates various cellular functions via activation of the soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC)/protein kinase G (PKG) pathway and the direct modification of proteins. Thus, in the present study, we investigated whether NO could indirectly modulate the activity of TRPV1 via a cGMP/PKG-dependent pathway in cultured rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. NO donors, sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and S-nitro-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP), decreased... -
A Computational Model of Cytosolic and Mitochondrial [Ca2+] in Paced Rat Ventricular Myocytes

and compared the results with those from computer simulation. In rat ventricular myocytes, increasing the rate of stimulation (1∼3 Hz) made both the diastolic and systolic [Ca2+] bigger in mitochondria as well as in cytosol. As L-type Ca2+ channel has key influence on the amplitude of Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release, the relation between stimulus frequency and the amplitude of Ca2+ transients was examined under the low density (1/10 of control) of L-type Ca2+ channel in model simulation, where... -
A Carbohydrate Fraction, AIP1, from Artemisia Iwayomogi Reduces the Action Potential Duration by Activation of Rapidly Activating Delayed Rectifier K+ Channels in Rabbit Ventricular Myocytes
WonSunPark, YounKyoungSon, EunAKo, SeongWooChoi, NariKim, Tae-HoonChoi, HyunJooYoun, Su-HyunJo, DaHyeHong, JinHan 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.3 1 119-125 (7 pages)
We investigated the effects of a hot-water extract of Artemisia iwayomogi, a plant belonging to family Compositae, on cardiac ventricular delayed rectifier K+ current (IK) using the patch clamp technique. The carbohydrate fraction AIP1 dose-dependently increased the heart rate with an apparent EC50 value of 56.1±5.5Ռg/ml. Application of AIP1 reduced the action potential duration (APD) in concentration-dependent fashion by activating IK without significantly altering the resting membrane... -
Buffering Contribution of Mitochondria to the [Ca2+]i Increase by Ca2+ Influx through Background Nonselective Cation Channels in Rabbit Aortic Endothelial Cells
YoungChulKim, SangJinLee, KiWhanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 5 29-36 (8 pages)
To prove the buffering contribution of mitochondria to the increase of intracellular Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i) via background nonselective cation channel (background NSCC), we examined whether inhibition of mitochondria by protonophore carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) affects endothelial Ca2+ entry and Ca2+ buffering in freshly isolated rabbit aortic endothelial cells (RAECs). The ratio of fluorescence by fura-2 AM (R340/380) was measured in RAECs. Biological state was checked by... -

There are numerous studies on transepithelial transports in duct cells including Cl and/or HCO3. However, studies on transepithelial K transport of normal duct cells in exocrine glands are scarce. In the present study, we examined the characteristics of K currents in single duct cells isolated from guinea pig pancreas, using a whole-cell patch clamp technique. Both Cl and K conductance were found with KCl rich pipette solutions. When the bath solution... -
Heterogeneity of the SR-dependent Inward Na+-Ca2+ Exchange Current in the Heavily Ca2+-buffered Rat Ventricular Myocytes

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.2 6 101-110 (10 pages)
Voltage-sensitive release mechanism was pharmacologically dissected from the Ca2-induced Ca2 release in the SR Ca2 release in the rat ventricular myocytes patch-clamped in a whole-cell mode. SR Ca2 release process was monitored by using forward-mode Na-Ca2 exchange after restriction of the interactions between Ca2 from SR and Na-Ca2 exchange within micro-domains with heavy cytosolic Ca2 buffering with 10 mM BAPTA. During...
