or incomplete healing. Histological healing and BPF complications in the subgroups were analyzed statistically. There was no significant difference in histological healing between SGI and SGIII (p=1.00; p>0.05), nor between SGII and SGIII (p=1.00; p>0.05). Similarly, no significant difference was observed between the subgroups in terms of BPF (p=0.945; p>0.05). The results of the statistical analysis indicated that manual suture, stapler or manual suture plus tissue flab could be alternative... -

This study examined the clinical and pathological features after a microvascular anastomosis of a rat femoral artery using four different suture techniques. Sixty Sprage-Dawely rats were divided randomly into 4 groups. Fifteen bisected arteries (one from each animal) in Group I, II, III and IV were sutured with the simple interrupted suture, continuous suture, sleeve suture and cuff suture, respectively. The anastomosis times in Group I, II, III and IV were 28.67, 14.67, 15.47 and 15.93 min,... -

A total of 75 biopsied samples of cardia, fundus, body, and pyloric antrum from necropsied dogs that were submitted to the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University from April 2003 to June 2004 were investigated. The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of Helicobacter spp. in canine stomach by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in comparison to histochemistry versus immunohistochemistry (IHC), and to correlate these diagnostic methods... -
Epigallocatechin-3 gallate prevents cardiac hypertrophy induced by pressure overload in rats
Jia Hao, Chan-Hyung Kim, Tae-Sun Ha, Hee-Yul Ahn 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 2호 4 121-129 (9 pages)
Pressure overload diseases, such as valvular stenosis and systemic hypertension, manifest morphologically in patients as cardiac concentric hypertrophy. Prevention of cardiac remodeling due to increased pressure overload is important to reduce morbidity and mortality. Epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) is a major bioactive polyphenol present in green tea which has been found to be a nitric oxide-mediated vasorelaxant and to be cardioprotective in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Therefore,... -
Immunohistochemical expression of h-telomerase reverse transcriptase in canine and feline meningiomas
Luciana Mandrioli, Serena Panarese, Alessandro Cesari, Maria Teresa Mandara, Paolo Stefano Marcato, Giuliano Bettini 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 2호 2 111-115 (5 pages)
Telomere length maintenance is regarded as a fundamental step in tumorigenesis, as most human brain tumors, including meningiomas, stabilize the ends of their chromosomes using telomerase. This investigation represents an introduction to telomerase expression in canine and feline meningiomas. Twenty-five archived cases (14 dogs and 11 cats) were immunohistochemically tested for human-telomerase reverse transcriptase (h- TERT), scored, and quantified; furthermore, mitoses were counted on sections... -
Immunohistochemical study of osteopontin in boar testis
Seungjoon Kim, Taekyun Shin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 2호 1 107-110 (4 pages)
The expression of osteopontin (OPN) in boar testis was studied. Western blot analysis detected 66- and 32-kDa OPN immunopositive bands in the testes of adult boars. In postnatal piglets, the 66-kDa OPN band was detected in the testes, but not the 32-kDa band. In the newborn testis, OPN immunostaining was seen in gonocytes and in some supporting cells in the seminiferous tubules, as well as in interstitial Leydig cells. In the adult boar testis, OPN immunoreactivity was detected in seminiferous... -
Expression of nitric oxide synthase isoforms in the porcine ovary during follicular development
Heechul Kim, Changjong Moon, Meejung Ahn, Yongduk Lee, Hwanglyong Kim, Seungjoon Kim, Taeyoung Ha, Youngheun Jee, Taekyun Shin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 2호 2 97-101 (5 pages)
The expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) isoforms in the ovaries of pigs was examined to study the involvement of nitric oxide, a product of NOS activity, in the function of the ovary. Western blot analysis detected three types of NOS in the ovary, including constitutive neuronal NOS (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS); eNOS immunoreactivity was more intense compared with that of iNOS or nNOS. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated the presence of nNOS and eNOS in the... -
Role of mucosal mast cells in visceral hypersensitivity in a rat model of irritable bowel syndrome
Jun-Ho La, Tae-Wan Kim, Tae-Sik Sung, Hyun-Ju Kim, Jeom-Yong Kim, Il-Suk Yang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 4호 6 319-324 (6 pages)
The involvement of mucosal mast cells (MMC) in the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is still controversial. We aimed to re-evaluate the role of MMC in visceral hypersensitivity associated with IBS using a rat IBS model that develops the IBS symptom after a subsidence of acetic acid-induced colitis. No significant difference in the number of MMC was observed between normal rat colon and IBS rat colon. (61.7 ±2.9/mm 2 in normal vs. 88.7 ±13.3/mm 2 in IBS, p > 0.29). However, the...
