Immunomodulatory effects of betulinic acid from the bark of white birch on mice
Jin-e Yi, Bozena Obminska-Mrukowicz, Li-yun Yuan, Hui Yuan* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 5 305-313 (9 pages)
The objective of this study was to explore the immunomodulatory effects of betulinic acid (BA) extracted from the bark of white birch on mice. Female mice were orally administered BA for 14 days in doses of 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 1 mg/kg body weight. We found that BA significantly enhanced the thymus and spleen indices, and stimulated lymphocyte proliferation induced by Concanavalin A and lipopolysaccharide as shown by MTT assay. Flow cytometry revealed that BA increased the percentage of CD4 cells... -
Simultaneous detection and subtyping of porcine endogenous retroviruses proviral DNA using the dual priming oligonucleotide system
Hyoung-Joon Moon, Seong-Jun Park, Hye-Kwon Kim, Soo-Kyung Ann, Semi Rho, Hyun-Ok Keum, Bong-Kyun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 3호 14 269-271 (3 pages)
The purpose of this study was to develop a multiplex PCR that can detect porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) proviral genes (pol, envA, envB, envC) and porcine mitochondrial DNA, using a dual priming oligonucleotide (DPO) system. The primer specifically detected the PERV proviral genes pol, envA, envB, envC, and porcine mitochondrial DNA only in samples of pig origin. The sensitivity of the primer was demonstrated by simultaneous amplification of all 5 target genes in as little as 10 pg of pig... -
Evaluation of infectivity and transmission of different Asian foot-and-mouth disease viruses in swine
Juan M. Pacheco, P. W. Mason 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 2호 7 133-142 (10 pages)
Most isolates of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) display a broad host range. Since the late 1990s, the genetic lineage of PanAsia topotype FMDV serotype O has caused epidemics in the Far East, Africa, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and numerous other countries throughout Europe and Asia. In contrast, there are several FMDV isolates that exhibit a more restricted host range. A Cathay topotype isolate of FMDV serotype O from the 1997 epizootic in Taiwan (O/TAW/97) demonstrated... -
Effect of multi-planar CT image reformatting on surgeon diagnostic performance for localizing thoracolumbar disc extrusions in dogs
Jason B. King, Jeryl C. Jones, John H. Rossmeisl Jr*, Tisha A. Harper, Otto I Lanz, Stephen R. Werre 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 8 225-232 (8 pages)
(CT) is an established technique for localizing disc extrusions in dogs, however the effect of multi-planar reformatting (MPR) on surgeon diagnostic performance has not been previously described. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of MPR CT on surgeon diagnostic accuracy, certainty and agreement for localizing thoracolumbar disc extrusions in dogs. Two veterinary surgeons and one veterinary neurologist who were unaware of surgical findings independently reviewed randomized sets of... -
Clinical and pathological assessment of different suture techniques for microvascular anastomosis in rat femoral artery
Khaled Radad, Mohamed El-Shazly 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 3호 11 269-273 (5 pages)
This study examined the clinical and pathological features after a microvascular anastomosis of a rat femoral artery using four different suture techniques. Sixty Sprage-Dawely rats were divided randomly into 4 groups. Fifteen bisected arteries (one from each animal) in Group I, II, III and IV were sutured with the simple interrupted suture, continuous suture, sleeve suture and cuff suture, respectively. The anastomosis times in Group I, II, III and IV were 28.67, 14.67, 15.47 and 15.93 min,... -
Birth of puppies after intrauterine and intratubal insemination with frozen-thawed canine semen
Hye Jin Kim, Hyun Ju Oh, Goo Jang, Min Kyu Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 1호 11 75-80 (6 pages)
The present study was performed to assess the fertility of frozen-thawed dog semen prepared by freezing with 6% glycerol and thawing at 70ºC for 8 sec, and to evaluate the least number of post-thaw spermatozoa necessary to achieve pregnancy by intrauterine or intratubal artificial insemination. It was found that the pregnancy rate of intrauterine artificial insemination was 100% using 6% glycerol buffer and thawing at 70ºC for 8 sec with 5 × 107 spermatozoa. Even though the pregnancy rate... -
Hypoglycemic effects of vanadium on alloxan monohydrate induced diabetic dogs
Joo-Min Kim, Jin-Young Chung, Sook-Yeon Lee, Eun-Wha Choi, Min-Kyu Kim, Cheol-Yong Hwang, Hwa-Young Youn 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 4호 15 391-395 (5 pages)
The hypoglycemic effects after oral administration of vanadium have been studied previously in many species such as rats, mice and even humans. However, there has been no prior report on the glucose lowering effect of vanadium on diabetic dogs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic effects of oral vanadium on diabetic dogs. Diabetes mellitus in the dogs studied was induced by alloxan monohydrate intravenous injection. The dogs were divided into two groups, one was... -
Mycobacterium bovis Infection in a Farmed Elk in Korea
Jae-Hoon Kim, Hyun-Joo Sohn, Kyung-Il Kang, Won-Il Kim, Jong-Sam An, and Young-Hwa Jean 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 3 163-166 (4 pages)
were revealed in the lung and lymph nodes. According to this study, there are differences of the histopathologic lesions and the numbers of acid-fast bacilli in the lesions between this elk and cattle. Mycobacterium bovis was confirmed as a causative agent in this elk using bacterial isolation, biochemical characteristics, and PCR technique. The isolate was negative for niacin test, nitrate reductase, and pyrazinamidase. This is a first report for bovine tuberculosis of farmed elk in Asia. -
