Enhanced Expression of Angiotensinogen mRNA in Rat Central and Peripheral Tissues Following Hemorrhage
Do, Eun-Ju, Yang, Eun-Kyoung, Kim, Kyung-Soon, Kim, Suk-Hee, Park, Yoon-Yub, Ahn, Dong-Kuk, Park, Jae-Sik, Lee, Won-Jung

The renin-angiotensin system plays an important role in the regulation of blood pressure and in body fluid homeostasis. There is increasing evidence for generation of endogenous angiotensin II in many organs and for its role in paracrine functions. Studies were designed to investigate whether hemorrhage produces rapid changes in the gene expression of angiotensinogen in peripheral and brain tissues. Wistar rats received saline drinking water for 7 days, were bled at a rate of 3mlkg-1 min-1 for 7... -
The Effects of Prolactin and Vasopressin on the Regulation of Amniotic Fluid Volume and Its Na+ Concentration through the Membrane Surrounding Amniotic Fluid
10 Pages
8 81-90 (10 pages)
The effects of prolactin and vasopressin on the regulation of amniotic fluid (AF) volume and its Na+ concentration ([Na+]) through the membrane surrounding the AF during increase in AF volume due to fetal urination, were studied. About 70% of AF volume was replaced with normal isotonic saline solution. Isotonic saline solution (0.5ml) containing Congored and LiCI was introduced into each amniotic sac. Vasopressin (25 ng/ml) or prolactin (1 mg/ml) of AF was then injected into experimental... -
The Action of Ginkgo Bibloba Extract in the Isolated Rabbit Corpus Cavernosum
8 Pages
6 61-68 (8 pages)
The extract of Ginkgo bibloba (EGb) is a complex mixture of natural products from the Ginkgo leaves and clinically used for the treatment of cerebral and peripheral circulatory disturbances due to its combined activity of several vasoactive principles. In this study we investigated the action of EGb and its mechanism in isolated rabbit corporal smooth muscle to evaluate the possibility of using this material as a pharmacoerecting agent. Strips of rabbit corpus cavernosum were mounted in organ... -
Calcium Current in the Unfertilized Egg of the Hamster
12 215-224 (10 pages)
The presence of a calcium current (iCa2+) passed via a specific channel was examined in the unfertilized hamster egg using the whole-cell voltage clamp technique. Pure inward current was isolated using a Ca2+-rich pipette solution containing 10 mM TEA. This current was independent of external Na+ and was highly sensitive to the Ca2+ concentration in the bathing solution, indicating that the inward current is carried by Ca2+. The maximal amplitude was -4.12±0.58nA (n=12) with 10mM Ca2+ at -3OmV... -
Effects of Intracerebroventricular Captopril on the Central Pressor Response to Bradykinin in Normotensive and Hypertensive Rats
6 Pages

pressure within 10 minutes but it significantly augmented the central pressor response to bradykinin in GHR. On the contrary, captopril was without effect on the pressor response to bradykinin in normotensive and DOCA-salt rats. These findings indicate that endogenous kinins are not critical in regulating arterial pressure in normotensive and DOCA hypertensive rats. However, in GHR, an enhanced activity of the brain kallikrein-kinin system in maintaining the high blood pressure is suggested. -
Role of Na+Ca2+ Exchange in the Control of Contractility in Rabbit Basilar Arterial Smooth Muscle
10 Pages
6 159-168 (10 pages)
The contraction of rabbit basilar artery was examined as a function of changes in the Na+ electrochemical gradient in order to determine the contribution of Na+/Ca2+ exchange to the modulation of contractility. Ouabain (10-5 M) or K+-free Tyrode solution caused an increase in tonic tension even in the presence of a Ca2+ channel blocker (10-6 M verapamil) and an α-receptor blocker (10-5 M phentolamine). After treatment with ouabain (10-5 M), contractions were augmented by reduction of external... -
Contribution of Bulk Flow to Transport Mechanisms of the Membranes Surrounding Amniotic Fluid in the Rabbit

the surrounding membranes by fiItrative bulk flow, where the rate of Na+ efflux has a linear relationship with that of water efflux. This is assumed to be carried out through enlarged and newly opened intercellular spaces resulting from increased intraamniotic pressure. 3) Once increasing intraamniotic pressure reaches a point allowing Li+ to pass through during osmotic bulk flow in hypotonic amniotic fIuid, Na+ influx seems to occur by diffusion simultaneously or immediately thereafter, too. -
Role of Endogenous Nitric Oxide in the Vasorelaxation Induced by High Calcium Environment in vitro
Lee, Jong-Eun, Lee, Byung-Kook, Ahn, Hyun-Taek, Ahn, Byoung-Hee, Kang, Jung-Chaee 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 6 Pages
3 123-128 (6 pages)
The present study was undertaken to examine if endogenous nitric oxide is partly responsible for the high calcium induced vasorelaxation in vitro. Isolated porcine coronary arterial rings were suspended in the tissue chamber and their changes in isometric tension were recorded. KCI little affected the vascular tension in the calcium free media, but subsequent addition of cumulative doses of CaCl3 from 1 to 40 mM caused a contraction followed by complete relaxation. The maximum tension was noted... -

10nmol) was administered into the right lateral cerebral ventricle, while blood pressure and heart rate (HR) were continuously monitored. In both NTR and GHR, intracerebroventricular bradykinin produced a dose dependent increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP) without significant changes in HR. GHR were more sensitive in the pressor response than NTR. The pressor response to bradykinin was attenuated by treatment with hexamethonium (2.5mg/kg/min, IV) or phentolamine (2mg/kg, IV) in both NTR and... -
Effects of pH, PCO2, and Adenosine on the Contractility of Pig Coronary Artery

pHo. A shift from 0% CO2 to 5% CO2 at constant pHo (pH 7.4) reduced the contractions induced by ACh, high K+, EFS. However the contraction induced by 100mM K+ was less influenced by the change of pHo or CO2. The contraction induced by ACh in Ca2+free Tyrode s solution as well as the contraction developed by the addition of extracellular of Ca2+ were decreased by lowering pHo and were increased by elevating pHo. High K+ (25mM) induced contraction at pH 6.8 was not returned to the level of the...
