Transcriptional Changes of Plant Defense-Related Genes in Response to Clavibacter Infection in Pepper and Tomato
In Sun Hwang, Eom-Ji Oh, Chang-Sik Oh 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages

michiganensis have shown different patterns of disease development depending on their virulence. Here, we investigated how pepper and tomato plants respond to infection by the high-virulent or low-virulent Clavibacter strains. For this, we chose two strains of each Clavibacter species to show different virulence level in the host plants. Although low-virulent strains showed less disease symptoms, they grew almost the same level as the high-virulent strains in both plants. To further examine the... -
Comparative Genome Analysis Reveals Natural Variations in the Genomes of Erwinia pyrifoliae, a Black Shoot Blight Pathogen in Apple and Pear

한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 5 428-439 (12 pages)
Erwinia pyrifoliae is a Gram-negative bacterial plant pathogen that causes black shoot blight in apple and pear. Although earlier studies reported the genome comparison of Erwinia species, E. pyrifoliae strains for such analysis were isolated in 1996. In 2014, the strain E. pyrifoliae EpK1/15 was newly isolated in the apple tree showing black shoot blight in South Korea. This study aimed to better understand the similarities and differences caused by natural variations at the genomic level... -
Mixed Infection of Sugarcane Yellow Leaf Virus and Grassy Shoot Phytoplasma in Yellow Leaf Affected Indian Sugarcane Cultivars
Kadirvel Nithya, Balasubramaniam Parameswari, Rasappa Viswanathan 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 4호 7 364-377 (14 pages)
Sugarcane is an important sugar crop contributes more than 80% of world sugar production. Mosaic, leaf fleck, and yellow leaf (YL) are the major viral diseases af- fecting sugarcane, amongst YL occurrence is widely reported in all the sugarcane growing countries. It is caused by Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) and detailed works were done on complete genome charac- terization, transmission, and management. However, in countries like Egypt, South Africa, Cuba, Mauritius and Hawaii, the... -
Investigating the Induced Systemic Resistance Mechanism of 2,4-Diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) using DAPG Hydrolase-Transgenic Arabidopsis
Dae-Han Chae, Da-Ran Kim, Mi Sun Cheong, Yong Bok Lee, Youn-Sig Kwak 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 3호 6 255-266 (12 pages)
Plant immune responses can be triggered by chemicals, microbes, pathogens, insects, or abiotic stresses. In particular, induced systemic resistance (ISR) refers to the activation of the immune system due to a plant’s in- teraction with beneficial microorganisms. The phenolic compound, 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG), which is produced by beneficial Pseudomonas spp., acts as an ISR elicitor, yet DAPG’s mechanism in ISR remains unclear. In this study, transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants... -
Hexanal Vapor Induced Resistance against Major Postharvest Pathogens of Banana (Musa acuminata L.)

in cell wall thickening of the treated fruit, which impeded the penetration of the pathogenic spores. This was further confirmed by scan- ning electron micrographs. The defense-related protein intermediaries had increased in hexanal vapor treated banana fruit, which suggests induced resistance against C. gloeosporioides and L. theobromae, via., the phen- ylpropanoid pathway which plays a significant role in hindering the pathogen quiescence. Delayed ripening due to inhibition of phospholipase D... -
Identification of New Source of Resistance to Powdery Mildew of Indian Mustard and Studying Its Inheritance

Powdery mildew of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea), caused by Erysiphe cruciferarum, is emerging as ma- jor problem in India. All the Indian mustard cultivars presently grown in India are highly susceptible to pow- dery mildew and so far no resistance source has been reported. In this study, with an aim to identify resistant source, 1,020 Indian mustard accessions were evaluated against E. cruciferarum PMN isolate, at Wellington, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India under natural hot spot conditions.... -
Whole Genome Enabled Phylogenetic and Secretome Analyses of Two Venturia nashicola Isolates
Maxim Prokchorchik, Kyungho Won, Yoonyoung Lee, C?cile Segonzac, Kee Hoon Sohn 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 1호 9 98-105 (8 pages)
Venturia nashicola is a fungal pathogen causing scab disease in Asian pears. It is particularly important in the Northeast Asia region where Asian pears are intensively grown. Venturia nashicola causes disease in Asian pear but not in European pear. Due to the highly restricted host range of Venturia nashicola, it is hypothesized that the small secreted proteins deployed by the pathogen are responsible for the host determination. Here we report the whole genome based phylogenetic analysis and... -

post-inoculation. The serological assay and symptomatology together indicated the presence of one potyvirus, and symptomology alone implied the presence of an unidentified virus. The partial genome of the potyvirus, encompassing the complete coat protein gene, was amplified using generic potyvirus primers. Sequence analysis of the amplicon confirmed the presence of an isolate of Wisteria vein mosaic virus (WVMV), a virus species not previously identified from Western Asia. Phylogenetic analyses... -
Rapid and Sensitive Detection of Lettuce Necrotic Yellows Virus and Cucumber Mosaic Virus Infecting Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) by Reverse Transcription Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification

amplification (RT-LAMP) assays were developed to detect the nucleoprotein (N) and coat protein (CP) genes of LNYV and CMV, respectively. RT-LAMP amplification products were visually assessed in reaction tubes separately using green fluorescence and gel electrophoresis. The assays successfully detected both viruses in infected plants without cross reactivity recorded from either CMV or LNYV or four other related plant viruses. Optimum LAMP reactions were conducted in betaine-free media with 6 mM... -

on suppressor of G2 allele of skp1 (SGT1), a molecular chaperone of nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat immune receptors. We also identified T3Es that differentially regulate flg22-induced reactive oxygen species production and gene expression. Interestingly, several of the NLS-containing T3Es translationally fused with yellow fluorescent protein accumulated in subcellular compartments other than the cell nucleus. Our findings bring new clues to decipher Rso T3E function in planta.
