Preschool Parents’ Ratings of Parent-teacher Relationships. A look at the Impact of Family Demographics
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 27 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.2 12 247-273 (27 pages)
Relationships between families and teachers are important quality indicators of an effective early childhood program and a child’s development indicators. Assessment of these relationships provides program administrators and policy makers insights into the effectiveness of their programs in impacting children’s and family outcomes. In this study, using the newly developed FPTRQ Measure, parents’ perceptions of parent-teacher relationships in preschool programs were assessed. The effects of... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.3 3 45-63 (19 pages)
Abstract Today many parents and preschool teachers communicate through social media. The purpose of this pilot study is to develop a tool that can reflect the new reality of parental involvement. The Parents' Involvement WhatsApp Inventory (PIWI) was developed through a questionnaire given to 324 preschool teachers in different areas in Israel. The questionnaire incorporated three perspectives: cognitive, attitudinal (emotional) and informative. Five categories were identified and validated by... -

Supporting Preschool Children’s Early Writing with Self-Regulated Learning Strategies
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 5 69-93 (25 pages)
Research suggests that early writing is crucial in the development of young children’s literacy skills and links to their conventional literacy outcomes in elementary school and beyond. In order to enhance the will and the skills to express thoughts explicitly and effectively in early writing among preschool children, self-regulated learning (SRL) was suggested. This experimental study involved seventy-five preschool children, aged from five to six years old in Malaysia, aimed to investigate... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2018, Vol.12 No.1 3 39-59 (21 pages)

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.3 2 17-38 (22 pages)
Narrative approaches to documentation and assessment in early childhood education (ECE) encourage children to be active contributors to their own learning journey. The growing emphasis on technology in society is changing assessment practices, with the introduction of e-portfolios into ECE, extending traditional documentation methods. Despite their growing popularity in New Zealand ECE settings, little research into their impact on children and their learning has been undertaken to date. This... -

Su-Jeong Wee, So Jung Kim, Kyoung Jin Kim Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2016, Vol.10 No.2 7 125-149 (25 pages)
In spite of the emphases on multicultural education and role-playing activities in early childhood classrooms in South Korea, there has been a startling paucity of studies examining the effectiveness of role-play in teaching kindergarteners multiracial and ethnic awareness. This qualitative case study examines how South Korean kindergarteners develop their perception and understanding of racial and cultural diversity through role-plays. 25 five year-old children and their parents and teacher... -

Six parents and three grandparents representing nine different families with children aged three to six years were interviewed. Data were analysed using Rogoff’s (2003) personal, interpersonal and cultural-institutional planes... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 17 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.3 5 67-83 (17 pages)
The understanding of the unit is a key point in the development of the concept of length. The understanding of unit is necessary for measuring as well as for comparing indirectly by using unit iteration. This article describes a study that investigated the use of units by children when they were comparing lines indirectly. The correlations between different aspects of the use of units are examined: the understanding of units, the use of units for decomposing and for counting are investigated. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2018, Vol.12 No.2 2 7-29 (23 pages)
This article discusses a single case analysis of teacher-child interactions on an everyday bush walk in New Zealand. It uses a combination of the Leuven wellbeing scale (Laevers, 2000) and a conversation analysis approach to explore how children and teachers attend to specific features of the outdoor environment in a way that encourages risk-taking and builds resilience through problem solving. The collaborative achievement of the activities between the pre- school teacher and the fouryear- old...
