한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2021, 37권 2호 8 173-181 (9 pages)
The genus Streptomyces demonstrates enormous prom- ise in promoting plant growth and protecting plants against various pathogens. Single and consortium treat- ments of two selected Streptomyces strains (Streptomyces shenzhenensis TKSC3 and Streptomyces sp. SS8) were evaluated for their growth-promoting potential on rice, and biocontrol efficiency through induced systemic re- sistance (ISR) mediation against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), the causal agent of rice bacterial leaf streak... -

Hg with similar cyst sizes. There were no significant differences in emergence (inoculum potential) among cyst nematodes due to the offset of fecundity and hatching rate; however, the inoculum potential of Hs may be not so persistent as Hg and Ht in fields because of its lower fecundity and higher hatching rate (causing rapid inoculum loss) than the others. These characteristics of cysts provide information useful for simple and differential diagnoses and reliable management of cyst nematodes. -
Potential of Using Ginger Essential Oils-Based Nanotechnology to Control Tropical Plant Diseases

Essential oils (EOs) have gained a renewed interest in many disciplines such as plant disease control and medicine. This review discusses the components of ginger EOs, their mode of action, and their potential nanotechnology applications in controlling tropical plant diseases. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography, and headspace procedures are commonly used to detect and profile their chemical compositions EOs in ginger. The ginger EOs are composed... -
Calcineurin-Responsive Transcription Factor CgCrzA Is Required for Cell Wall Integrity and Infection-Related Morphogenesis in Colletotrichum gloeosporioides
Ping Wang, Bing Li, Yu-Ting Pan, Yun-Zhao Zhang, De-Wei Li, Lin Huang 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 13 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 1 385-397 (13 pages)
The ascomycete fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides infects a wide range of plant hosts and causes enormous economic losses in the world. The transcription factors (TFs) play an important role in development and pathogenicity of many organisms. In this study, we found that the C2H2 TF CgCrzA is localized in both cytoplasm and nucleus under standard condition, and it translocated from cytoplasm to nucleus in a calcineurin- dependent manner. Moreover, the ΔCgCrzA was hypersensitive to cell wall... -
Bacteriophage Usage for Bacterial Disease Management and Diagnosis in Plants
Nguyen Trung Vu, Chang-Sik Oh 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 14 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 3호 2 204-217 (14 pages)
In nature, plants are always under the threat of pests and diseases. Pathogenic bacteria are one of the ma- jor pathogen types to cause diseases in diverse plants, resulting in negative effects on plant growth and crop yield. Chemical bactericides and antibiotics have been used as major approaches for controlling bacterial plant diseases in the field or greenhouse. However, the appearance of resistant bacteria to common antibiot- ics and bactericides as well as their potential negative effects... -
An in vitro Actinidia Bioassay to Evaluate the Resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae
Faming Wang, Jiewei Li, Kaiyu Ye, Pingping Liu, Hongjuan Gong, Qiaosheng Jiang, Beibei Qi, Quanhui Mo 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 4호 9 372-380 (9 pages)
Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is by far the most important pathogen of kiwifruit. Sustainable expansion of the kiwifruit industry requires the use of Psa-tolerant or resistant genotypes for the breeding of tolerant cultivars. However, the resistance of most existing kiwifruit cultivars and wild genotypes is poorly understood, and suitable evaluation methods of Psa resistance in Actinidia have not been established. A unique in vitro method to evaluate Psa resistance has been developed... -
Characterization of the Lytic Bacteriophage phiEaP-8 Effective against Both Erwinia amylovora and Erwinia pyrifoliae Causing Severe Diseases in Apple and Pear
Jungkum Park, Gyu Min Lee, Donghyuk Kim, Duck Hwan Park, Chang-Sik Oh 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2018, 34권 5호 10 445-450 (6 pages)
Bacteriophages, bacteria-infecting viruses, have been recently reconsidered as a biological control tool for preventing bacterial pathogens. Erwinia amylovora and E. pyrifoliae cause fire blight and black shoot blight disease in apple and pear, respectively. In this study, the bacteriophage phiEaP-8 was isolated from apple orchard soil and could efficiently and specifically kill both E. amylovora and E. pyrifoliae. This bacteriophage belongs to the Podoviridae family. Whole genome analysis... -
Global Transcriptome Profiling of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae under in planta Growth and in vitro Culture Conditions
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), the causative agent of bacterial blight, is a major threat to rice productivity. Here, we performed RNA-Seq based transcriptomic analysis of Xoo transcripts isolated under in planta growth (on both susceptible and resistant hosts) and in vitro culture conditions. Our in planta extraction method resulted in successful enrichment of Xoo cells and provided RNA samples of high quality. A total of 4,619 differentially expressed genes were identified between in... -
Selection of Small Synthetic Antimicrobial Peptides Inhibiting Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri Causing Citrus Canker
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2017, 33권 1호 10 87-94 (8 pages)
Citrus canker disease decreases the fruit quality and yield significantly, furthermore, emerging of streptomycin-resistant pathogens threatens the citrus industry seriously because of a lack of proper control agents. Small synthetic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) could be a promising alternative. Fourteen hexapeptides were selected by using positional scanning of synthetic peptide combinatorial libraries. Each hexapeptide showed different antimicrobial spectrum against Bacillus, Pseudomonas,... -
Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging of Crape Myrtle Leaves Infested with Sooty Mold
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2016, 32권 6호 9 563-569 (7 pages)
The spatial patterns for temperature distribution on crape myrtle leaves infested with sooty mold were investigated using a digital infrared thermal imaging camera. The mean temperatures of the control and sooty regions were 26.98°C and 28.44°C, respectively. In the thermal images, the sooty regions appeared as distinct spots, indicating that the temperatures in these areas were higher than those in the control regions on the same leaves. This suggests that the sooty regions...
