Improvement of gas sensing properties of carbon nanofibers based on polyacrylonitrile and pitch by steam activation
Jeongsik Kim, Hyung-Il Kim, Jumi Yun 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 5 36-40 (5 pages)
nanofibers were activated with steam at various temperatures followed by subsequent carbonization to make carbon nanofibers with a highly conductive graphitic structure. Steam activation was effective in facilitating gas adsorption onto the carbon nanofibers due to the increased surface area. The carbon nanofibers activated at 800°C had a larger surface area and a lower micro pore fraction resulting in a higher variation in electrical resistance for improved CO gas sensing properties. -
Lyocell-based activated carbon fibers improved the adsorption of harmful gas properties when produced via dual-simultaneous treatments
Byong Chol Bai, Ji Sun Im, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 10 69-73 (5 pages)
In gas adsorption processes, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) are used for the adsorption of the harmful gases that are generated by coal or oil combustion, and they have been widely studied [1,2]. ACFs have been used for harmful gas removal because of their specific surface area, micropores, reproducibility, safety, and processing ability, which are beneficial properties for a wide range of applications [3,4]. -
Adsorption characteristics of heavy metals ions by physical activation on coal tar pitch-based activated carbon fibers
Bo-kyung Choi, Jae-Kyoung Ko, Soo-Jin Park, Min-Kang Seo 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 10 96-100 (5 pages)
as heavy metal ions are present in the wastewater produced by various industries. This wastewater flows into rivers, pollutes water supplies, and can contaminate the drinking water supplied to people [1-3]. Powder or activated carbons are being widely used today to mitigate polluted water from industrial sources and contaminated supplies. To make up for the limitations of such materials, there has been strong interest in the use of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) as adsorbents, because they offer... -
The effects of carbon coating onto graphite filler on the structure and properties of carbon foams
Ji-Hyun Kim, Do Young Kim, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 16 111-115 (5 pages)
the mechanical properties of metal-based heat sink materials are difficult to control at temperatures over 550°C [2,3]. Thus, CFms are actively investigated as heat sink materials because of their good properties, such as high thermal stability, high thermal/electrical conductivity, low density, high porosity and high specific surface area [4,5]. CFms are suitable materials for applications in phase-change materials, such as in latent heat thermal energy storage and lithium-ion batteries [6-9]. -
A facile green reduction of graphene oxide using Annona squamosa leaf extract
Basavaiah Chandu, Venkata Sai Sriram Mosali, Bhanu Mullamuri, Hari Babu Bollikolla 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 9 74-80 (7 pages)
A highly facile and eco-friendly green synthesis of Annona squamosa (custard apple) leaf extract reduced graphene oxide (CRG) nanosheets was achieved by the reduction of graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared CRG was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. Removal of oxygen containing moieties from the... -
Morphologies and surface properties of cellulose-based activated carbon nanoplates
Seulbee Lee, Min Eui Lee, Min Yeong Song, Se Youn Cho, Young Soo Yun, Hyoung-Joon Jin 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 5 32-38 (7 pages)
In this study, cellulose nanoplates (CNPs) were fabricated using cellulose nanocrystals obtained from commercial microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). Their pyrolysis behavior and the characteristics of the product carbonaceous materials were investigated. CNPs showed a relatively high char yield when compared with MCC due to sulfate functional groups introduced during the manufacturing process. In addition, pyrolyzed CNPs (CCNPs) showed more effective chemical activation behavior compared with...
