Serosurveillance for Japanese encephalitis virus infection among equines in India
Baldev R. Gulati*, Harisankar Singha, Birendra K. Singh, Nitin Virmani, Sandip K. Khurana, Raj K. Singh 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 4호 6 341-345 (5 pages)
The seroprevalence of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) among equines was evaluated from January 2006 to December 2009 in 13 different states of India by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test and virus neutralization test (VNT). Antibodies against JEV were detected in 327 out of 3,286 (10%) equines with a maximum prevalence reported in the state of Manipur (91.7%) followed by Gujarat (18.5%), Madhya Pradesh (14.4%), and Uttar Pradesh (11.6%). Evidence of JEV infection was observed in equines in... -
Influence of nitric oxide on in vitro growth, survival, steroidogenesis, and apoptosis of follicle stimulating hormone stimulated buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) preantral follicles
Pawan K. Dubey, Vrajesh Tripathi, Ram Pratap Singh, G. Taru Sharma* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 9 257-265 (9 pages)
Effect of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, on in vitro survival, growth, steroidogenesis, and apoptosis of buffalo preantral follicles (PFs) was investigated. PFs (200∼250 mm) were isolated by micro-dissection and cultured in 0 (control), 10, 10, 10, and 10 M SNP. To examine the reversible effect of SNP, PFs were cultured with 10 M SNP + 1 mM N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) or 1.0 mg hemoglobin (Hb). The results showed that greater concentrations of SNP (10,... -
Antigenic and immunogenic investigation of the virulence motif of the Newcastle disease virus fusion protein
Kang-Seuk Choi*, Eun-Kyoung Lee, Woo-Jin Jeon, Jun-Hun Kwon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 3호 5 205-211 (7 pages)
Newcastle disease (ND) caused by virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is a highly contagious viral disease of poultry. Virulent NDVs characteristically have a multibasic amino acid sequence (virulence motif) such as RRQKRF at the cleavage site of the precusor fusion (F0) protein. The antigenic and immunogenic characteristics of the virulence motif RRQKRF in the F0 protein of virulent NDVs were investigated. Epitope mapping analysis revealed that a RRQKRF-specific monoclonal antibody 4G2... -
Modification of pharmacokinetics of norfloxacin following oral administration of curcumin in rabbits
B. H. Pavithra, N. Prakash*, K. Jayakumar 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 3 293-297 (5 pages)
Investigation was carried out in adult New Zealand white rabbits to study the influence of curcumin pre-treatment on pharmacokinetic disposition of norfloxacin following single oral administration. Sixteen rabbits were divided into two groups of eight each consisting of either sex. Animals in group-I were administered norfloxacin (100 mg/kg body weight p.o), while animals in group-II received similar dose of norfloxacin after pre-treatment with curcumin (60 mg/kg body weight per day, 3 days,... -
Protective efficacy of commercial inactivated Newcastle disease virus vaccines in chickens against a recent Korean epizootic strain
Woo-Jin Jeon, Eun-Kyoung Lee, Young-Jeong Lee, Ok-Mi Jeong, Yong-Joo Kim, Jun-Hun Kwon, Kang-Seuk Choi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 3호 10 295-294 (0 pages)
Despite the intensive vaccination policy that has been put in place to control Newcastle disease virus (NDV), the recent emergence of NDV genotype VII strains in Korea has led to significant economic losses in the poultry industry. We assessed the ability of inactivated, oil-emulsion vaccines derived from La Sota or Ulster 2C NDV strains to protect chickens from challenge with Kr-005/00, which is a recently isolated Korean epizootic genotype VII strain. Six-week-old SPF chickens were vaccinated... -
Pregnancy loss in dairy cows: the contributing factors, the effects on reproductive performance and the economic impact
Je-In Lee, Ill-Hwa Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 3호 13 283-288 (6 pages)
This study investigated the effects of the herd, cow parity, the insemination protocol and season on the incidence of pregnancy loss (PL) in dairy herds. Furthermore, we determined the downstream effects of PL on reproductive performance and its economic impact. The overall incidence rate of PL was 6.9% in 1,001 pregnant cows and its incidence peaked (p < 0.01) during the second trimester of gestation. GLIMMIX analysis revealed that cow parity was the important risk factor for the PL. The odds... -
Studies on mastitis, milk quality and health risks associated with consumption of milk from pastoral herds in Dodoma and Morogoro regions, Tanzania
Esron D. Karimuribo, Lughano J. Kusiluka, Robinson H. Mdegela, Angolwisye M. Kapaga, Calvin Sindato, Dominic M. Kambarage 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 3호 7 213-221 (9 pages)
The prevalence of mastitis, milk quality and health risks associated with milk consumption were investigated on 96 randomly selected traditional herds in Dodoma rural and Mvomero districts of Tanzania. Mastitis was investigated based on clinical signs, microbiology and California mastitis test (CMT), while milk quality was evaluated using total viable count (TVC)and total coliform count (TCC). Animals were tested for tuberculosis using a single comparative intradermal tuberculin test. The... -
Risk factors for retained placenta and the effect of retained placenta on the occurrence of postpartum diseases and subsequent reproductive performance in dairy cows
Yeon-Kyung Han, Ill-Hwa Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 1호 8 53-59 (7 pages)
The objectives of this study were to determine the risk factors for retained placenta by evaluating several reproductive factors in individual cows, and to determine the effects of retained placenta on the occurrence of postpartum diseases and subsequent reproductive performance in dairy herds. The health status, cow parity, calving, and breeding dates were recorded from 805 calvings in nine dairy herds from October 2000 to March 2004. We used logistic regression to evaluate the effects of these... -
