Tetrachloroauric Acid Depresses the Activation Processes of Phagocytic Cells
ChungSooLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.3 13 377-384 (8 pages)
Gold compounds depress phagocytic cell responses, including chemotaxis, and respiratory burst. However, the effects of gold compounds on the function of phagocytic cells are variable according to the preparation of medicine. In this study, effect of tetrachloroauric acid on activated neutrophil responses, including respiratory burst, lysosomal enzyme release and change of intracellular Ca2+ level and on the synthesis of interleukin-8 and granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor by... -
Electrolysis of Physiological Salt Solution Generates a Factor that Relaxes Vascular Smooth Muscle

Oxygen-derived free radicals have been implicated in many important functions in the biological system. Electrical field stimulation (EFS) causes arterial relaxation in animal models. We found that EFS applied to neither muscle nor nerve but to Krebs solution caused a relaxation of rat aorta that had been contracted with phenylephrine. In the present study, therefore, we investigated the characteristics of this EIRF (electrolysis-induced relaxing factor) using rat isolated aorta. Results... -

a specific inhibitor of KATP channels. The aims of this study were to investigate whether KATP channels exist in gastric smooth muscle of guinea-pig and to know its physiological role. Whole cell K'+ curr‘ents activated by lemakalim were recorded from freshly isolated cells with a 0.1 mM ATP, 140 mM KCl pipette solutions. Lemakalim (10 μM) increased inward currents of -224:t34 pA (n=13) at -80 mV of holding potential in bath solution contained 90 mM K'+ . Bath-applied glibenclamide (10 μM)... -
Changes of Renal Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor in the Stress/ Anxiety Response

analysis of the results showed that the increase in the density of PBR and the affinity of the PBR remained unchanged. Forced swim stress increased anxiety on the plus maze in both groups of rats. In contrast to control, diazepam progenies did not show further upregulation of renal PBR immediately after swimming stress, but still higher than control. From the above results, it may be concluded that upregulation of renal PBR is associated with chronic anxiety as well as stress-induced response. -
Effects of Ginsenosides on the Mechanism of Histamine Release in the Guinea Pig Lung Mast Cells Activated by Specific Antigen- Antibody Reactions

of ginsenosides decreased mediator releases evoked by the activation of mast cells with specific antigen-antibody reactions. This study aimed to assess the effects of ginsenosides (Rb2, Re) on the mechanism of histamine release in the mast cell activation. We partially purified guinea pig lung mast cells by using enzyme digestion, the rough and the discontinuous percoll density gradient method. Mast cells were sensitized with IgG1 and challenged with ovalbumin (OA). Histamine was assayed by... -
Functional Characteristics of Neutral Amino Acid Transporter in Opossum Kidney (OK) Cells

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 8 185-193 (9 pages)
The characteristics of Na+-dependent cycloleucine uptake was investigated in OK cells with regard to substrate specificity and regulation by protein kinase C (PKC). Inhibition studies with different synthetic and natural amino acids showed a broad spectrum affinity to neutral amino acids regardless of their different side chains including branched or aromatic, indicating that the Na+-dependent cycloleucine uptake in OK cells is mediated by System Bo or System Bo-like transporter rather than the... -
[3H]MK-801 Binding to the Synaptic Membranes of Rat Forebrains Age-related Regulation by Glutamate, Glycine and Spermine

The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in synaptic plasticity, developmental processes, learning and memory and many neuropathological disorders including age-related diseases. In the present study, regulation of the NMDA receptor properties by various ligands was investigated using [3H]MK-801 binding studies in the synaptic membranes of young and aged rat forebrains. The binding in the presence of glutamate and glycine increased... -

a dose- and time-dependent decrease in cell viability assessed by MTT assay. Both UDCA and LCA also induced genomic DNA fragmentation, a hallmark of apoptosis, indicating that the mechanism by which these bile acids induce cell death was through apoptosis. Cycloheximide, a protein synthesis inhibitor, blocked the apoptosis induced by these bile acids, implying that new protein synthesis may be required for the apoptosis. Intracellular Ca2+ release blockers (dantrolene and 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic... -

Cis-dichlorodiammine platinum II (Cisplatin), an effective chemotherapeutic agent, induces acute renal failure by unknown mechanisms. To investigate direct toxic effects of cisplatin on the renal proximal tubular transport system, LLC-PK1 cell line was selected as a cell model and the sugar transport activity was evaluated during a course of cisplatin treatment. Cells grown to confluence were treated with cisplatin for 60 min, washed, and then incubated for up to 5 days. At appropriate...
