Rethinking Story Reading in U.S. Preschools: Making Story Comprehension and Social-Emotional Understanding the Priority
Judith A. Schickedanz 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2014, Vol.8 No.2 2 5-25 (21 pages)

a “teacher” of English language and literacy to their pre-school-aged children in home contexts. Nor is it clear how they enact this role and responsibility during everyday interactions with their children. This study investigated Taiwanese mothers’ views about their role in their children’s English language learning. Six mothers of children aged three to six years participated in an extended semi-structured interview. While mothers used the term “teaching” to refer to their practices with... -

Judith A. Schickedanz 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages

potential of the emergent writing/drawing context for supporting oral language, content knowledge, and reasoning in preschoolers. The adult-child talk surrounding the samples provided are discussed in relation to the child’s prior experiences and knowledge, and circumstances in the classroom that affect a teacher’s time allocation. A current trend in using preschool writing centers in U.S. classrooms to focus quite narrowly on supporting literacy skills development is discussed in light of or... -

in epistemology, ontology, the purpose of education, the learning process, and types of reasoning are conceptualized. We recommend an integrated approach that blends both approaches through systematic investigation and creativity, objective and subjective aspects of reality, science and social science–oriented and meaning-oriented lessons, planned and spontaneous learning, and deductive and inductive reasoning. We elaborate and term this integration as reflexive pedagogy–to support a... -

Majority of parents perceived that parent involvement is significant and necessary although they are not able to participate in all events of parent involvement due to reasons such as time conflict and be baby sitters. In addition, parents wanted for teachers to frequently inform their child’s progress, to contact them through various channels, and to respect their opinions in education for their child. Strategies to compromise the reasons hindering parental participation in... -

Then I will describe the current pedagogies of teaching English in the early grades of Philippine schools. A brief review of current research studies on bilingual education will follow.
