대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 3 185-195 (11 pages)
Vascular diseases are significant complications of diabetes mellitus (DM), and the endothelial cells may play a pivotal role in the development of vascular disease in DM. Endothelin-1 (ET-1) released from endothelium is a potent vasoconstrictor peptide and circulating level of ET-1 is increased in a variety of disease states. The purpose of this study was to determine the changes of responsiveness to ET-1 in DM, and we experimented on the changes in the ET-1-induced contraction, levels of... -

We examined the neurotoxic effects of 3 glutathione (GSH) depletors, buthionine sulfoximine (BSO), diethyl maleate (DEM) and phorone, under the presence of trolox, cycloheximide (CHX), pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) or MK-801 in primary mouse cortical cell cultures. All three depletors induced neuronal death in dose and exposure time dependent manner, and decreased total cellular GSH contents. The patterns of the neuronal death and the GSH decrements were dependent on the individual agents.... -

The present study was aimed at investigating whether there are changes in the expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in relation with the unclipping-induced fall of blood pressure in two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) hypertension. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were made 2K1C hypertensive by clipping the left renal artery for four weeks. Sham-clipped rats served as control. The expression of endothelial constitutive (ec) NOS proteins and tissue levels of NO metabolites were determined in the kidney.... -
Effects of p-Chlorophenylalanine on the Synthesis of Pancreatic Amylase in Rats

Previously, we have reported that p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA), a serotonin depletor, profoundly increased pancreatic fluid and bicarbonate secretion but remarkably inhibited pancreatic amylase secretion in anesthetized rats. The present study was performed to verify the detailed effects of PCPA on pancreatic amylase synthesis that is directly related to amylase exocrine secretion. PCPA significantly decreased pancreatic RNA and protein contents as well as the amylase activity. However,... -

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by infiltrating neutrophils, are considered as an important regulator in the pathogenesis and deveolpment of pancreatitis. The present study aims to investigate whether neutrophils primed by 4β-phorbol 12β-myristate 13α-acetate (PMA) affect the productions H2O2 and lipid peroxide (LPO), NF-κB activation and cytokine production in pancreatic acinar cells, and whether these alterations were inhibited by an antioxidant, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and... -
The Enhancement of Endotoxin-Induced Nitric Oxide Production by Elevation of Glucose Concentration in Macrophage
HyunGooWoo, Yi-SookJung, EunJooBaik, Chang-HyunMoon, SooHwanLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.4 10 447-454 (8 pages)
The production of nitric oxide (NO) and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) are known to be modulated by a variety of factors. Recent study showed that endotoxin-induced NO synthesis and iNOS expression were greatly enhanced by elevation of extracellular glucose concentration in murine macrophages. Although this was suggested to be due to the activation of protein kinase C (PKC) via sorbitol pathway, there was lack of evidence for this speculation. This study was performed... -
Effect of Imipramine on Calcium Utilization of Single Cells Isolated from Canine Detrusor

The role of platelet-activating factor (PAF) was investigated in intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) induced acute lung injury associated with oxidative stress. To induce acute lung injury following intestinal I/R, superior mesenteric arteries were clamped with bulldog clamp for 60 min prior to the 120 min reperfusion in Sprague-Dawley rats. Acute lung injury by intestinal I/R was confirmed by the measurement of lung leak index and protein content in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid. Lung... -

by using Griess reagent and Western analysis, respectively. Results indicated that STZ-treated rats increased the maximal contractile response of the aorta to phenylephrine (PE), and high K, while the sensitivity remained unaltered. Endothelium-dependent relaxation, but not SNP-mediated relaxation, was reduced in STZ-treated rats. Plasma nitrite/nitrates are significantly increased in STZ-treated rats compared to controls. The malondialdehyde (MDA) contents of liver, serum, and aorta of... -
Thyroid Hormone-Induced Alterations of Ryanodine and Dihydropyridine Receptor Protein Expression in Rat Heart
HaeWonKim, MiyoungPark, EunHeeLee, HyoungJinCho, HeeRanLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages

Thyroid hormone-induced cellular dysfunctions may be associated with changes in the intracellular Ca2 concentration. The ryanodine receptor, a Ca2 release channel of the SR, is responsible for the rapid release of Ca2 that activates cardiac muscle contraction. In the excitation-contaction coupling cascade, activation of ryanodine receptors is initiated by the activity of sarcolemmal Ca2 channels, the dihydropyridine receptors. In hyperthyroidism left ventricular...
