A review: methane capture by nanoporous carbon materials for automobiles
Pil-Seon Choi, Ji-Moon Jeong, Yong-Ki Choi, Myung-Seok Kim, Gi-Joo Shin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 3 18-28 (11 pages)
as an important green and economic technology. It is very important to develop highly efficient adsorbents to realize techno-economic systems for CH4 adsorption and storage. In this review, we summarize the nanomaterials being used for CH4 adsorption, which are divided into non-carbonaceous (e.g., zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and porous polymers) and carbonaceous materials (e.g., activated carbons, ordered porous carbons, and activated carbon fibers), with a focus on recent research. -
Manufacturing and characteristics of PAN-based composite carbon fibers containing cellulose particles
Jee-Woo Yang, Da Young Jin, Ji Eun Lee, Seung Goo Lee, Won Ho Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 7 203-210 (8 pages)
such as the heat treatment temperature of the cellulose particles and the amount of cellulose added, the thermal and mechanical properties of the PANbased carbon fibers were investigated. The results show that it is possible to manufacture composite carbon fibers with low thermal conductivity. That is, thermal conductivities were reduced by the cellulose particles in the PAN based carbon fibers while at the same time, the tensile strength loss was minimized, and the tensile modulus increased. -
Effects of cross-linking methods for polyethylene-based carbon fibers: review
Kwan-Woo Kim, Hye-Min Lee, Jeong-Hun An, Byoung-Suhk Kim, Byung-Gak Min, Shin-Jae Kang, Kay-Hyeok An, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 24 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 2 147-170 (24 pages)
In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist... -
The effects of stacking sequence on the penetration-resistant behaviors of T800 carbon fiber composite plates under low-velocity impact loading
Furqan Ahmad, Jung-Wuk Hong, Heung Soap Choi, Soo-Jin Park, Myung Kyun Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 6 107-115 (9 pages)
low-velocity impact load on carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite plates fabricated with various stacking sequences were studied experimentally. The impact responses of the CFRP composite plates were significantly affected by the laminate stacking sequences. Three types of specimens, specifically quasi-isotropic, unidirectional, and cross-ply, were tested by a constant impact carrying the same impact energy level. An impact load of 3.44 kg, corresponding to 23.62 J, was applied to the... -
Effect of surface modification of carbon felts on capacitive deionization for desalination
Jong-Ho Lee, Hong-Joo Ahn, Donghwan Cho, Jeong-Il Youn, Young-Jig Kim, Han-Jun Oh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 4 93-100 (8 pages)
the carbon felts were chemically modified by alkaline and acidic solutions, respectively. The potassium hydroxide (KOH) modified carbon felt exhibited high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas and large pore volume, and oxygencontaining functional groups were increased during KOH chemical modification. However, the BET surface area significantly decreased by nitric acid (HNO3) chemical modification due to severe chemical dissolution of the pore structure. The capability of electrosorption... -
Characterization and influence of shear flow on the surface resistivity and mixing condition on the dispersion quality of multi-walled carbon nanotube/polycarbonate nanocomposites
Young Sil Lee, Kwan Han Yoon 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 3 86-92 (7 pages)
Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polycarbonate (PC) nanocomposite was prepared by direct melt mixing to investigate the effect of the shear rate on the surface resistivity of the nanocomposites. In this study, an experiment was carried out to observe the shear induced orientation of the MWCNT in the polymer matrix using a very simple melt flow indexer with various loads. The compression-molded, should be eliminated. MWCNT/PC nanocomposite sample exhibited lower percolation thresholds (at 0.8... -
CO2 adsorption characteristics of slit-pore shaped activated carbon prepared from cokes with high crystallinity
Mi-Seon Park, Si-Eun Lee, Min Il Kim and Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 7 45-50 (6 pages)
High crystallinity coke-based activated carbon (hc-AC) is prepared using a potassium hydroxide solution to adsorb carbon dioxide (CO2). The CO2 adsorption characteristics of the prepared hc-AC are investigated at different temperatures. The X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that pitch-based cokes prepared under high temperature and pressure have a high crystal structure. The textural properties of hc-AC indicate that it consists mainly of slit-like pores. Compared to other textural forms of AC... -
Preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide by radiationinduced chemical reduction of sulfonated graphene oxide
Chang-Hee Jung, Ji-Hyun Hong, Jin-Mook Jung, In-Tae Hwang, Chan-Hee Jung and Jae-Hak Choi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 6 41-44 (4 pages)
We report the preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide (SRGO) by the sulfonation of graphene oxide followed by radiation-induced chemical reduction. Graphene oxide prepared by the well-known modified Hummer's method was sulfonated with the aryl diazonium salt of sulfanilic acid. Sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) dispersed in ethanol was subsequently reduced by γ-ray irradiation at various absorbed doses to produce SRGO. The results of optical, chemical, and thermal analyses revealed that... -
Influence of hot-pressing pressure on the densification of short-carbon-fiber-reinforced, randomly oriented carbon/carbon composite
Thakur Sudesh Kumar Raunija and Sharad Chandra Sharma 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages

ratio on the densification of short-carbon-fiber-reinforced, randomly oriented carbon/carbon-composite. Secondary objectives included determination of the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting composite. The ‘hybrid carbon-fiberreinforced mesophase-pitch-derived carbon-matrix’ composite was fabricated by hot pressing. During hot pressing, pressure was varied from 5 to 20 MPa, and reinforcement wt% from 30 to 70. Densification of all the compacts was carried at low impregnation... -
An overview of new oxidation methods for polyacrylonitrile?based carbon fibers
Hye Kyoung Shin, Mira Park, Hak-Yong Kim and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 2 11-18 (8 pages)
The process of oxidizing polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers converts them into an infusible and non-flammable state prior to carbonization. This represents one of the most important stages in determining the mechanical properties of the final carbon fibers, but the most commonly used methods, such as thermal treatment (200°C to 300°C), tend to waste a great deal of process time, money, and energy. There is therefore a need to develop more advanced oxidation methods for PAN precursor...
