Changes of Atrial Natriuretic Peptide System in Rats with Puromycin Aminonucleoside-Induced Nephrotic Syndrome
EunHuiBae, JongUnLee, SeongKwonMa, SooWanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Sodium retention is a hallmark of nephrotic syndrome. We investigated whether sodium retention is associated with changes of natriuretic peptide system at different stages (i.e., a sodium retaining stage and a compensatory stage) of nephrotic syndrome. At day 7 after PAN (puromycin aminonucleoside) injection, the urinary excretion of sodium was decreased, along with the development of ascites and positive sodium balance. The plasma and urinary ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide) immunoreactivities... -
Modeling of Arrhythmogenic Automaticity Induced by Stretch in Rat Atrial Myocytes

Since first discovered in chick skeletal muscles, stretch-activated channels (SACs) have been proposed as a probable mechano-transducer of the mechanical stimulus at the cellular level. Channel properties have been studied in both the single-channel and the whole-cell level. There is growing evidence to indicate that major stretch-induced changes in electrical activity are mediated by activation of these channels. We aimed to investigate the mechanism of stretch-induced automaticity by... -
Anti-ischemic Effect of Polygala Tenuifolia in Isolated Rat Heart
Chang-WonKang, Jong-HoonKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

Polygala tenuifolia (PT) is one of the most well-known traditional herbal medicines in Korea which is commonly used for the treatment of cardiovascular symptoms. The anti-ischemic effects of PT in isolated rat heart was investigated by analyzing changes in blood pressure, aortic flow, coronary flow, and cardiac output. And, its underlying mechanism was examined by quantitating intracellular calcium content in rat neonatal cardiomyocytes. Rats were divided into two groups: an ischemia-induced... -
Upregulation of Renin-angiotensin, Endothelin and C-type Natriuretic Peptide in Rat Glomerulus with Bilateral Ureteral Obstruction
EunHuiBae, SooWanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.6 8 343-348 (6 pages)
The present study was designed to investigate the effects renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), endothelin (ET) and local natriuretic peptide (NP) system for glomerulopathy induced in the experimental bilateral ureteral obstructive rats. Sprague-Dawley male rats (200∼220 g body weight) were bilaterally obstructed by ligation of the proximal ureters for 24 hours. Control rats were treated in the same ways, except that no ligature was made. The glomeruli were isolated from cortex by graded... -
Neurovascular Mechanisms in Stroke, Neurodegeneration and Recovery

The emerging concept of the“neurovascular unit”may enable a powerful paradigm shift for neuroscience. Instead of a pure focus on the“neurobiology”of disease, an opportunity now exists to return to a more integrative approach. The neurovascular unit emphasizes that signaling between vascular and neuronal compartments comprise the basis for both function and dysfunction in brain. Hence, brain disorders are not just due to death of neurons, but instead manifested as cell signaling perturbations... -
Blunted Indomethacin-Induced Downregulation of Aquaporins by Nitric Oxide Synthesis Inhibition in Rats

of AQP1, AQP2 and AQP3 proteins in the kidney was determined by Western blot analysis. Indomethacin downregulated AQP channels, whereas L-NAME by itself showed no significant effects on them. The indomethacin-induced downregulation of AQP2 and AQP3 was significantly blunted in L-NAME-treated rats, while that of AQP1 was not affected. These results suggest that endogenous NO, when stimulated, may downregulate AQP channels that are specifically regulated by AVP/cAMP pathway in the kidney. -
Effect of Rosiglitazone on Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rat Heart

on hemodynamic cardiac function, but had protective effect on lipid peroxidation in in vitro experiments. In chronic protocol in which ROSI was given by daily gavage (4 mg/kg) for three consecutive days, ROSI could not prevent the hemodynamic alteration on cardiac performance, but has protective effect on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). There was no significant difference in the contents of reduced glutathione (GSH) and catalase activity between ischemia-reperfusion (IR) and ROSI... -
Differential Activation of Ras/Raf/MAPK Pathway between Heart and Cerebral Artery in Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy

Cardiac hypertrophy contributes an increased risk to major cerebrovascular events. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying cerebrovascular dysfunction during cardiac hypertrophy have not yet been characterized. In the present study, we examined the molecular mechanism of isoproterenol (ISO)-evoked activation of Ras/Raf/MAPK pathways as well as PKA activity in cerebral artery of rabbits, and we also studied whether the activations of these signaling pathways were altered in cerebral artery,... -

This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of defibrotide on the development of the surgically induced reflux esophagitis, on gastric secretion, lipid peroxidation, polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) accumulation, polymorphonuclear leukocytes adherence, superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide production in PMNs, scavenge of hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide, cytokine (interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α) production in blood, and intracellular calcium mobilization in PMNs.... -

after inducing the hypertension, the expression of HSP70, HSP32 and HSP25 was determined in the kidney by Western blot analysis. In 2K1C hypertension, the expression of HSP70, HSP32 and HSP25 was increased in the clipped kidney at both weeks 1 and 4. However, in the contralateral kidney, their expression was not significantly altered at week 1, but increased at week 4. In DOCA-salt hypertension, the expression of HSP remained unaltered in the remnant kidney at week 1, but significantly increased...
