Striatum plays a crucial role in the movement control and habitual learning. It receives an information from wide area of cerebral cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from raphe nuclei. In the present study, the effects of 5-HT to modulate synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro extracellular recording technique. Synaptic responses were evoked by stimulation of cortical glutamatergic inputs on the corpus... -

The effects of intracellular and extracellular pH on the inwardly rectifying K (IRK) channel of the bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) were examined using whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The IRK current, efficiently blocked by Ba2 (200μM), is the most prominent membrane current in BAECs, which mainly determines the resting membrane potential. The expression of Kir2.1 was observed in BAECs using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis.... -

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of doxorubicin (DX) on secretion of catecholamines (CA) evoked by ACh, high K, DMPP and McN-A-343 from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland and to establish the mechanism of its action. DX (107∼106 M) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min produced relatively dose- and time-dependent inhibition of CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (104 M) and McN-A-343 (104 M).... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 6 207-214 (8 pages)
The present study was designed to clarify whether tacrine affects the release of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused model of rat adrenal gland or not and to elucidate the mechanism of its action. Tacrine (3⁓105∼3⁓104 M) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min inhibited CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (a selective neuronal nicotinic agonist, 104 M for 2 min) and McN-A-343 (a selective muscarinic M1-agonist,... -
Forward-Mode Na+-Ca2+ Exchange during Depolarization in the Rat Ventricular Myocytes with High EGTA
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.6 5 487-494 (8 pages)
During depolarization, extrusion of Ca2 from sarcoplasmic reticulum through forward-mode Na-Ca2 exchange was studied in the rat ventricular myocytes patch-clamped in whole-cell configuration. In order to confine the Ca2 responses in a micro-domain by limiting the Ca2 diffusion time, rat ventricular myocytes were dialyzed with high (14 mM) EGTA. K current was suppressed by substituting KCl with 105 mM CsCl and 20 mM TEA in the pipette filling solution... -
Role of Gap Junctions in the Endothelium-Dependent Hyperpolarization of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Hyperpolarization of arterial smooth muscle by acetylcholine is considered to be produced by the release of an unidentified chemical substance, an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF). Several chemicals have been proposed as the candidate for EDHF. However, none of them fulfil completely the nature and property of EDHF. Ultrastructural observation with electron microscope reveals that in some arteries, gap junctions are formed between endothelial and smooth muscle cells. In small... -

Morphine or butorphanol was continuously infused into cerebroventricle (i.c.v.) with the rate of 26 nmol/ μl/h for 3 days, and the withdrawal from opioid was rendered 7 hrs after the stopping of infusion. The expression of physical dependence produced by these opioids was evaluated by measuring the naloxone- precipitated withdrawal signs. The withdrawal signs produced in animals dependent on butorphanol (kappa opioid receptor agonist) were similar to those of morphine (mu opioid receptor... -
Cadmium Inhibition of Renal Endosomal Acidification
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 9 63-72 (10 pages)
degradation of cadmium-metallothionein complex (CdMT) may impair endosomal acidification 1) by reducing the H-ATPase density in the endosomal membrane, 2) by suppressing the intrinsic H-ATPase activity, and 3) possibly by increasing the membrane conductance to H ion. Such effects of Cd could be responsible for the alterations of proximal tubular endocytotic activities, protein reabsorption and various transporter distributions observed in Cd-exposed cells and animals. -
