Characterization of lymphocyte subpopulations and major histocompatibility complex haplotypes of mastitis-resistant and susceptible cows
Yong Ho Park, Yi Seok Joo, Joo Youn Park, Jin San Moon, So Hyun Kim, Nam Hoon Kwon, Jong Sam Ahn, William C. Davis and Christoph 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 5 29-39 (11 pages)
finding of the present study is that susceptibility to mastitis was associated with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) haplotypes that have only a single set of DQ genes. The study also revealed that susceptible cows had CD4:CD8 ratios of less than one in both their mammary gland secretions and peripheral blood. These results raise the possibility that the number of DQ genes that a cow has and/or a cow’s CD4:CD8 ratio could be used as indicators of susceptibility to bovine mastitis. -
Assessment of the California mastitis test usage in smallholder dairy herds and risk of violative antimicrobial residues

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 2 5-9 (5 pages)
to the milks mastitic status for possible association. There was a numerical but non-significant (p > 0.05) difference evident in the frequencies observed using the three different mastitis indicators. The prevalent bacterial species isolated from mammary glands with subclinical mastitis were Staphylococcus aureus (45.6%), coagulase-negative Staphylococci (13.0%), Streptococci (11.7%) and Escherichia coli 5.9%. There was an overall poor but significant (p < 0.05) correlation between the CMT and... -
Identification and epidemiological characterization of Streptococcus uberis isolated from bovine mastitis using conventional and molecular methods
I. U. Khan, A. A. Hassan, A. Abdulmawjood, C. Lammler, W. Wolter, M. Zschock 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 3 213-223 (11 pages)
In the present study 130 S. uberis strains and one S. parauberis strain isolated from bovine milk samples of 58 different farms of various locations in Hesse, Germany, as well as two reference strains of each species were comparatively investigated for cultural, biochemical, serological and molecular properties. All S. uberis strains produced the enzyme β-D-glucuronidase, while the S. parauberis strains were negative. The S. uberis and S. parauberis 16S rRNA genes were amplified by polymerase... -
Immunohistochemical Study of the Pancreatic Endocrine Cells inthe BALB/c mice: An Unique Distributional Pattern of Glucagon
Sae-Kwang Ku, Hyeung-Sik Lee and Jae-Hyun Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 4 167-173 (7 pages)
The regional distribution and relative frequency of insulin-, glucagon-, somatostatin- and pancreatic polypeptide (PP)-producing endocrine cells in the pancreas of BALB/c mouse were investigated by immunohistochemical method. The pancreas of mice was divided into two portions; pancreatic islets and exocrine portions, and pancreatic islets were further subdivided into two regions (central and peripheral regions) and the relative frequency and regional distribution of immunoreactive cells against... -
Additive Estrogenic Activities of the Binary Mixtures of Four Estrogenic Chemicals in Recombinant Yeast Expressing Human Estrogen Receptor
Yong Soon Lee, Kyung Sun Kang, Sung Dae Cho 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 1호 1 1-5 (5 pages)
To evaluate the estrogenic activities of several chemicals such as 17beta-estradiol (E2), rho-nonylphenol, bisphenol A, butylparaben, and combinations of these chemicals, we used recombinant yeasts containing the human estrogen receptor [Saccharomyces cerevisiae ER + LYS 8127]. We evaluated E2 was most active in the recombinant yeast assay, followed by rho-nonylphenol, bisphenol A, butylparaben. The combinations of some concentrations of 17-estradiol as a strong estrogen and bisphenol A or... -
Therapeutic effect of bee venom in sows with hypogalactia syndrome postpartum
Seok-Hwa Choi, Seong-Soo Kang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 2호 9 121-124 (4 pages)
The objective of this study was to determine the clincotherapeutic effect of whole bee venom in hypogalactic sows postpartum. Sows after parturition were assigned to treated and nontreated control groups. In the treated group, 22 sows were bee acupunctured once a day for 3 consecutive days. Honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) for bee acupuncture were about 15 days after metamorphosis. One live bee was used to sting the acupoints known as Yang-ming (ST-18, 1.5 cm lateral to the base of the last 2 pairs... -
The use of crossreactive monoclonal antibodies to characterize the immune system of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)
W. C. Davis, A. M. Khalid, M. J. Hamilton, J. S. Ahn, Y. H. Park, G. H. Cantor 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 2호 6 103-109 (7 pages)
One of the major difficulties in studying the mechanisms of host defense in economically important species indigenous to Asia and the Middle East is the lack of monoclonal antibody (mAb) reagents that define the immune systems of species other than cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs. One strategy that could obviate this problem at minimal cost is to identify existing mAbs that recognize conserved epitopes on orthologous major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and leukocyte differentiation molecules.... -
Tissue distribution of bovine viral diarrhea virus antigens in persistently infected cattle
Taekyun Shin, Helen Acland 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 2호 2 81-84 (4 pages)
detection of BVDV showed that BVDV antigens were detected in both epithelial and nonepithelial cells in all examined organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, lung, lymphatic organs (spleen, lymph nodes), adrenal gland, ovary, uterus, and the mammary gland. These findings support the hypothesis that animals with persistent BVDV infection spread BVDV through all routes, and that infertility in BVDV infection is associated with the infection of BVDV in the ovaries and uteri. -
Overexpression of cyclin D1 and cyclin E in 1,2-dimethylhydrazine dihydrochloride-induced rat colon carcinogenesis
Kwon Hur, Jung-Rae Kim, Byung-Il Yoon, Jung-Keun Lee, Jae-Hoon Choi, Goo-Taeg Oh, Dae-Yong Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2000, 제 1권 제 2호 9 121-126 (6 pages)
Deregulation of G1 cyclins has been reported in several human and rodent tumors including colon cancer. To investigate the expression pattern of G1 cyclins in 1,2- dimethyl-hydrazine dihydrochloride (DMH)-induced rat colon carcinogenesis, we studied the expression of cyclin D1 and cyclin E by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The mRNA level of cyclin D1 was increased 1.2-fold in adenocarcinomas but not significantly in... -
