Inhibitory Effects of Corni Fructus Extract on Angiogenesis and Adipogenesis
Jae-HoHwang, Jong-DeogKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages

Natural products in Chonnam, Korea were screened via anti-angiogenesis experiments, and 1 candidate product was identified, Corni fructus, which exerted dose-dependent inhibitory effects against angiogenesis, adipogenesis, and cell adhesion. C. fructus extract (CFE) exhibits an angiogenesis inhibi</I>tory effect superior to that of the EGCG from green tea leaves. The expression level of angiogenesis and adipogenesis-related signal molecules in the western blotting was reduced by increasing... -
The Efficacy of Shikonin on Cartilage Protection in a Mouse Model of Rheumatoid Arthritis
YoungOckKim, SeungJaeHong, Sung-VinYim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.4 1 199-204 (6 pages)
The potential therapeutic action of shikonin in an experimental model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was investigated. As a RA animal model, DBA/1J mice were immunized two times with type II collagen. After the second collagen immunization, mice were orally administered shikonin (2 mg/kg) once a day for 35 days, and the incidence, clinical score, bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC) and joint histopathology were evaluated. BMD in the proximal regions of the tibia largely... -

results obtained by western blotting serosal side solution using rat everted gut sacs method showed that lumbrokinase proteins between 33.6 and 54.7 kDa are absorbed mostly by the intestinal epithelium. Furthermore, MALDI- TOF mass spectrometric analysis of plasma fractions obtained by in situ recirculation method confirmed that lumbrokinase F1 is absorbed into blood. These results support the notion that lumbrokinase can be absorbed from mucosal lumen into blood by oral administration. -
Antifungal and Anticancer Activities of a Protein from the Mushroom Cordyceps militaris

has a molecular mass of 12 kDa and a pI of 5.1. The optimum conditions for protease activity were a temperature of 37oC and pH of 7.0∼9.0. The enzyme activity was specifically inhibited by the serine protease inhibitor phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride. Amino acid composition of intact CMP and amino acid sequences of three major peptides from a tryptic digest of CMP were determined. CMP exerted strong antifungal effect against the growth of the fungus Fusarium oxysporum, and exhibited cytotoxicity... -
The Influence of Alpha-fetoprotein on Natural Suppressor Cell Activity and Ehrlich Carcinoma Growth

of AFP. A single injection of AFP to intact mice led to an increase of spontaneous NS activity and the inhibition of natural killer cell activity. NS activity, especially NS2, was increased in when tumor cells were subcutaneously inoculated three days after AFP injection. In the AFP-treated mice, the tumor mass at 14 days was 60% larger than that in the untreated mice. Our data confirmed that AFP is a tumor marker that can inhibit cancer immunity and plays a role in cancer pathogenesis. -
Effect of Extracts from Safflower Seeds on Osteoblastic Differentiation and Intracellular Free Calcium Concentration in MC3T3-E1 Cells

0.1% dried aqueous fraction significantly increased the [Ca2]i of the cultured osteoblast cells (8⁓104) to the extent that it deserves a considerable attention. Furthermore, the crude extract and aqueous fraction increased the [Ca2]i of the cultured osteoblast cells, and 300μM Cd2, specific calcium channel blocker, completely blocked the increase. Therefore, the increased [Ca2]i of the cultured osteoblast cells by safflower seed component continued to activate... -
Inhibition of Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression by YS 49, a Synthetic Isoquinoline Alkaloid, in ROS 17/2.8 Cells Activated with TNF-α, IFN-γ and LPS

Nitric oxide (NO) has been suggested to act as a mediator of cytokine-induced effects of turn over of bone. Activation of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) by inflammation has been related with apoptotic cell death in osteoblast. YS 49, a synthetic isoquinoline alkaloid, inhibits NO production in macrophages activated with cytokines. In the present study, we investigated the molecular mechanism of YS 49 to inhibit iNOS expression in ROS 17/2.8 cells, which were activated with combined... -
Detection of Mitochondrial ATP-Sensitive Potassium Channels in Rat Cardiomyocytes

Mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium (mitoKATP) channels play a role in early and late ischemic preconditioning. Nevertheless, the subunit composition of mitoKATP channels remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the subunit composition of mitoKATP channels in mitochondria isolated from rat cardiacmyocytes. Mitochondria were visualized using the red fluorescence probe, Mitrotracker Red, while mitoKATP channels were visualized using the green fluorescence probe, glibenclamide-BODIPY. The... -

It has been demonstrated that an unidentified cytosolic factor(s) reduces KACh channel function. Therefore, this study attempted to elucidate the cytosolic factor. Fresh cytosol isolated from normal heart (FC) depressed the KACh channel activity, but cytosol isolated from the ischemic hearts (IC) did not modulate the channel function. Electrophorectic analysis revealed that a protein of ∼80 kDa was markedly reduced or even lost in IC. By using peptide sequencing analysis and Western blot, this... -

B cell mass and a peripheral boundary of A, D, and PP cells, double immunofluorescent staining with a panel of antibodies was performed to identify PLD2-immunoreactive cells in the islets PLD2 immunoreactivity was mainly present in A and PP cells of the rat pancreatic islets. And yet, in the guinea pig, PLD2 immunoreactivity was exclusively localized in A cells, and not in PP cells. These findings suggest a possibility that PLD2 is mainly located in A cells of rodent pancreatic islets, and that...
