The Influence of Maternal Factors and Child Self-regulation on Peer Initiative: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.3 1 1-24 (24 pages)
Peer initiative refers to a child’s personal characteristic relevant to instigating play with peers, and it can be classified as friendly or unfriendly. This study used structural equation modeling to examine the contributions of mother’s coaching competence, parenting behavior, and child self-regulation to peer initiative. Participants comprised mothers of children aged 3 to 5 years (n = 343) in Korea and their teachers (n = 39). Structural equation modeling indicated that the relationship... -
“The Weight Falls on My Shoulders”: Perceptions of Compassion Fatigue Among Israeli Preschool Teachers
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 5 91-112 (22 pages)
Compassion fatigue is defined as indirect or secondary trauma that develops among caregivers as a result of their involvement in the trauma state of the individual under their care, to the point that they begin to empathize with and become deeply involved in the other person’s feelings and suffering. The present study evaluated perceptions of compassion fatigue among 15 preschool teachers in Israel by means of qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews. The study’s findings show that... -

up to the bullies”, “Asking others for help”, and “Overcoming the causes of bullying by oneself”. Third, problem resolution involved “Resolving with the victim’s active efforts”, “Resolving with the aid of others”, and “Resolving through the self-reflection of the bullies”. These findings emphasize the use of picture books as an educational medium to prevent early childhood bullying, with the caveat to exercise caution regarding stereotypes that may potentially affect young children. -
Supporting Preschool Children’s Early Writing with Self-Regulated Learning Strategies
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 5 69-93 (25 pages)
Research suggests that early writing is crucial in the development of young children’s literacy skills and links to their conventional literacy outcomes in elementary school and beyond. In order to enhance the will and the skills to express thoughts explicitly and effectively in early writing among preschool children, self-regulated learning (SRL) was suggested. This experimental study involved seventy-five preschool children, aged from five to six years old in Malaysia, aimed to investigate... -

Dickson Adom, Joshua Ebere Chukwuere, Atsu Dennis Dake, Jerry Pratt Newton 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.1 7 129-151 (23 pages)
Problem learners in Ghanaian schools are often marginalized and/or ignored during the teaching and learning processes in the classroom. The study was carried out using the convergent parallel mixed method design with questionnaire, focus group discussion, and one-on-one interviews as the data collection instruments. The purposive, convenient, and stratified random sampling techniques were used in selecting a total sample size of 112 participants consisting of identified problem learners,... -

in the high range for learning, and more than half was in the low range for working memory. Educational attainment, career, household income, income source, and primary caregiver role had significant relationships to parental stress levels. Parental stress levels did not significantly affect the cognitive processes and the relationships were generally negative. Parents should continuously practice effective stress management and coping responses to prevent stress spillover to their children. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2018, Vol.12 No.1 1 1-21 (21 pages)
The intersection between Early Childhood Development (ECD), peacebuilding, and sustainable development is a complex and newly emerging area of research in the cross-disciplinary field of early childhood and international development. This paper is important for its contribution to the developing knowledge-base in its conceptualizations of the role of young children in the promotion of social cohesion and peaceful societies. It begins by discussing the increasingly high profile of ECD in the... -
Children’s Engagement with Their Learning Using E-portfolios
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.3 2 17-38 (22 pages)
Narrative approaches to documentation and assessment in early childhood education (ECE) encourage children to be active contributors to their own learning journey. The growing emphasis on technology in society is changing assessment practices, with the introduction of e-portfolios into ECE, extending traditional documentation methods. Despite their growing popularity in New Zealand ECE settings, little research into their impact on children and their learning has been undertaken to date. This... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.2 5 85-106 (22 pages)
The allocation of free-play time in an early childhood curriculum provides opportunities for child-centred learning and gives children a chance to explore safely the world around them. However, previous literature suggests that the beneficial use background music during free-play time is contested and that further research would be useful. A specially designed survey was sent to teachers in Seoul, Kyoung-gi, and Choong-chung provinces in South Korea by e-mail and supplemented post-survey by n=12...
