Effects of maleic anhydride content on mechanical properties of carbon fibers-reinforced maleic anhydride-grafted-polypropylene matrix composites
Hyun-Il Kim, Woong Han, Woong-Ki Choi, Soo-Jin Park, Kay-Hyeok An, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 6 39-46 (8 pages)
In this work, the effects of maleic anhydride (MA) content on mechanical properties of chopped carbon fibers (CFs)-reinforced MA-grafted-polypropylene (MAPP) matrix composites. A direct oxyfluorination on CF surfaces was applied to increase the interfacial strength between the CFs and MAPP matrix. The mechanical properties of the CFs/MAPP composites are likely to be different in terms of MA content. Surface characteristics were observed by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared... -
Effects of electrochemical oxidation of carbon fibers on interfacial shear strength using a micro-bond method

(CFs) on interfacial adhesion between CF and epoxy resin with various current densities. The surface morphologies and properties of the CFs before and after electrochemical-oxidation-treatment were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and single-fiber contact angle. The mechanical interfacial shear strength of the CFs/epoxy matrix composites was investigated by using a... -
Phenylethynyl-terminated polyimide, exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets, and the composites: an overview

to enhance interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and a bismaleimide (BMI) matrix, as well as the dynamic mechanical properties of carbon/BMI composites, are discussed. Reports on the thermal expansion behavior of intercalated graphite flake, and the effects of exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets (xGnP) on the properties of PETI-5 matrix composites are also reviewed. The dynamic mechanical and thermal properties and the electrical resistivity of xGnP/PETI-5 composites are characterized. The... -
Cellulose-based carbon fibers prepared using electron-beam stabilization
Min Il Kim, Mi-Seon Park, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 9 56-61 (6 pages)
Cellulose fibers were stabilized by treatment with an electron-beam (E-beam). The properties of the stabilized fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The E-beam-stabilized cellulose fibers were carbonized in N₂ gas at 800°C for 1 h, and their carbonization yields were measured. The structure of the cellulose fibers was determined to have changed to hemicellulose and... -
Cu²? ion reduction in wastewater over RDF-derived char

er removal capability. Ion exchange between copper ions and alkali/alkaline metal cations was the most important mechanism of copper removal by RDF char, followed by adsorption on functional groups existing on the char surface. The copper adsorption behavior was represented well by a pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum copper removal capacity was determined to be 38.17 mg/g, which is larger than those of other low-cost char adsorbents reported previously.
