The impact of a professional development initiative in numeracy/mathematics on teachers and students in New Zealand
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 26 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2009, Vol.3 No.1 1 3-28 (26 pages)
the teaching and learning of mathematics in the early school years in New Zealand. The first part of the paper presents an overview of key features of the numeracy initiative. Data on the impact of the initiative on teachers and students is described. The magnitude of the project’s impact on students’ mathematical learning is reported as effect sizes, calculated by comparing slightly older students (from the adjacent age-group) acting as a “control” group, with the “treatment” group. -
A STUDY ON THE STATUS OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN UGANDA
27 Pages
6 133-159 (27 pages)
Following the past decades, children s rights and rights of persons with disabilities have been put at the forefront of all nations across the world. In the modern world, most of the researches carried out show that emphasis on inclusive education is put mostly to acquire more children with disabilities and special educational needs and special educational needs are being placed in mainstream education instead of special schools, as it was originally considered. The aim of this study was to... -
24 Pages
2017, Vol.14 No.1 4 75-98 (24 pages)
Extraction and characterization of lignin from black liquor and preparation of biomass-based activated carbon therefrom
Daeyeon Kim, Jinsil Cheon, Jeonghoon Kim, Daekyun Hwang, Ikpyo Hong, Oh Hyeong Kwon, Won Ho Park, Donghwan Cho 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 14 81-88 (8 pages)
In the present study, biomass-based lignin was extracted from industrial waste black liquor and the extracted lignin was characterized by means of attenuated total reflectance- Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The extracted lignin was carbonized at different temperatures and then activated with steam at 850oC. The extracted lignin in powder state was transformed into a bulky carbonized lignin due to possible fusion between the lignin... -
Adsorption characteristics of heavy metals ions by physical activation on coal tar pitch-based activated carbon fibers
Bo-kyung Choi, Jae-Kyoung Ko, Soo-Jin Park, Min-Kang Seo 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 10 96-100 (5 pages)
Due to the increasing population growth of modern society, along with rapid industrial development and urbanization, environmental pollution continues to worsen and has become an important issue, not only domestically but also worldwide. In particular, toxic substances such as heavy metal ions are present in the wastewater produced by various industries. This wastewater flows into rivers, pollutes water supplies, and can contaminate the drinking water supplied to people [1-3]. Powder or... -
Effect of acid catalysts on carbonization temperatures for ordered mesoporous carbon materials
Jeong Kuk Shon, Xing Jin, Yun Seok Choi, Jong Gu Won, Yoon Kyung Hwang, Dae Jong You, Chengbin Li, Ji Man Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 10 66-71 (6 pages)
Highly ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) materials have attracted much attention in many fields including catalysis, adsorption and energy storage, due to their high porosity, high surface area and controllable regular pore-structure [1-6]. Successful synthesis pathways for obtaining OMC materials include the direct synthesis of OMC materials through the organic-organic self-assembly method (soft templating process) and nano-replication of OMC materials from mesoporous silica templates (hard... -
Activating needle coke to develop anode catalyst for direct methanol fuel cell
Young Hun Park, Ui-Su Im, Byung-Rok Lee, Dong-Hyun Peck, Sang-Kyung Kim, Young Woo Rhee, Doo-Hwan Jung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 7 47-52 (6 pages)
Physical and electrochemical qualities were analyzed after KOH activation of a direct methanol fuel cell using needle coke as anode supporter. The results of research on support loaded with platinum-ruthenium suggest that an activated KOH needle coke container has the lowest onset potential and the highest degree of catalyst activity among all commercial catalysts. Through an analysis of the CO stripping voltammetry, we found that KOH activated catalysis showed a 21% higher electrochemical... -
KOH-activated graphite nanofibers as CO2 adsorbents
Hui Yuan, Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 12 99-103 (5 pages)
Porous carbons have attracted much attention for their novel application in gas storage. In this study, porous graphite nano-fiber (PGNFs)-based graphite nano fibers (GNFs) were prepared by KOH activation to act as adsorbents. The GNFs were activated with KOH by changing the GNF/KOH weight ratio from 0 through 5 at 900°C. The effects of the GNF/ KOH weight ratios on the pore structures were also addressed with scanning electron microscope and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements. We found that... -

Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 10 79-88 (10 pages)
As a replacement for activated carbon, biochar was synthesized and used for the adsorptive removal of formaldehyde and nitrogen oxide. Biochar was produced from the fast pyrolysis of the red marine macro alga, Pyropia tenera. The P. tenera char was then activated with steam, ammonia and KOH to alter its characteristics. The adsorption of formaldehyde, which is one of the main indoor air pollutants, onto the seaweed char was performed using 1-ppm formaldehyde and the char was activated using a... -
