Polymorphisms of SLC22A9 (hOAT7) in Korean Females with Osteoporosis
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

to glutamine (R256Q), phenylalanine to serine (F426S) and proline to leucine (P496L), respectively. The Km values and Vmax of the wild type, R256Q, P496L and F426S were 8.84, 8.87, 9.83 and 12.74 μM, and 1.97, 1.96, 2.06 and 1.55 pmol/oocyte/h, respectively. The present study demonstrates that the SLC22A9 variant F426S is causing inter-individual variation that is leading to the differences in transport of the steroid sulfate conjugate (estrone sulfate) and, therefore this could be used as a... -
Modeling of the Parathyroid Hormone Response after Calcium Intake in Healthy Subjects

mechanistic model for the parathyroid hormone (PTH) response after calcium intake and indirectly compare the difference in oral calcium absorption from PTH responses. PTH and Ca2+ concentrations were collected from 24 subjects from a clinical trial performed to evaluate the safety and calcium absorption of Geumjin Thermal Water in comparison with calcium carbonate tablets in healthy subjects. Indirect response models (NONMEM Ver. 7.2.0) were fitted to observed Ca2+ and PTH data, respectively, in... -
Contradictory Effects of Superoxide and Hydrogen Peroxide on KCa3.1 in Human Endothelial Cells

and hydrogen peroxide radicals on the expression of this ion channel in the endothelium remain unclear. In this study, we examined the effects of ROS donors on KCa3.1 expression and the K+ current in primary cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The hydrogen peroxide donor, tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP), upregulated KCa3.1 expression, while the superoxide donors, xanthine/xanthine oxidase mixture (X/XO) and lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), downregulated its expression, in a... -
Increased HoxB4 Inhibits Apoptotic Cell Death in Pro-B Cells

to HoxB4 overexpression under removal of interleukin-3-mediated signal, leading to the induction of cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and attenuated cell death by Fas protein stimulation in vitro. Furthermore, apoptotic cell death induced by doxorubicin-treated G2/M phase cell-cycle arrest also decreased with HoxB4 overexpression in Ba/F3 cells. From these data, we suggest that HoxB4 may play an important role in the regulation of pro-B cell survival under various apoptotic death environments. -
Phellodendron amurense and Its Major Alkaloid Compound, Berberine Ameliorates Scopolamine-Induced Neuronal Impairment and Memory Dysfunction in Rats

PA (100 and 200 mg/kg, i.p.) and BER (20 mg/kg, i.p.) 30 min before scopolamine injection (2 mg/kg, i.p.). Daily administration of PA and BER improved memory impairment as measured by the passive avoidance test and reduced the escape latency for finding the platform in the Morris water maze test. Administration of PA and BER significantly alleviated memory-associated decreases in cholinergic immunoreactivity and restored brain-derived neurotrophic factor and cAMP-response element-binding protein... -
Stem Cells in Drug Screening for Neurodegenerative Disease
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.1 1 1-9 (9 pages)
a good model with which to screen effective drugs that increase neurogenesis. Recent technologies for human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) can provide human cells that harbour specific neurodegenerative disease. This article discusses the use of NSCs, ESCs and iPSCs for neurodegenerative drug screening and toxicity evaluation. In addition, we introduce drugs or natural products that are recently identified to affect the stem cell fate to generate neurons or... -
Effects of Isoflurane Anesthesia on Post-Anesthetic Sleep-Wake Architectures in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 7 291-297 (7 pages)
The sleep homeostatic response significantly affects the state of anesthesia. In addition, sleep recovery may occur during anesthesia, either via a natural sleep-like process to occur or via a direct restorative effect. Little is known about the effects of isoflurane anesthesia on sleep homeostasis. We investigated whether 1) isoflurane anesthesia could provide a sleep-like process, and 2) the depth of anesthesia could differently affect the post-anesthesia sleep response. Nine rats were treated... -
Sorting Nexin 17 Interacts Directly with Kinesin Superfamily KIF1Bβ Protein
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.4 11 199-204 (6 pages)
region of SNX17 is required for the binding with KIF1BՂ. SNX17 protein bound to the specific region of KIF1BՂ (813-916. aa), but not to other kinesin family members. In addition, this specific interaction was also observed in the Glutathione S-transferase pull-down assay. An antibody to SNX17 specifically co-immunoprecipitated KIF1BՂ associated with SNX17 from mouse brain extracts. These results suggest that SNX17 might be involved in the KIF1BՂ-mediated transport as a... -
Gene Expression Profile in Microglia following Ischemia- Reperfusion Injury
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

involved in this response have been identified individually, but not systematically. In this regards, the microarray system permitted to screen a large number of genes in biological or pathological processes. Therefore, we used microarray technology to evaluate the effect of oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD) and reperfusion on gene expression in microglia under ischemia-like and activating conditions. Primary microglial cultures were prepared from postnatal mice brain. The cells were exposed to 4... -
Differential Effects of Typical and Atypical Antipsychotics on MK- 801-induced EEG Changes in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 3 17-22 (6 pages)
We examined whether the abnormal EEG state by NMDA receptor blocker MK-801 can be reversed by typical and atypical antipsychotics differentially by comparing their spectral profiles after drug treatment in rats. The spectral profiles produced by typical antipsychotics chlorpromazine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) and haloperidol (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) were differ from that by atypical antipsychotic clozapine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) in the rats treated with or without MK-801 treatment (0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) which produce...
