the existence of the endothelium. The KH-vasorelaxation in the endothelium-intact rings contracted by PE was abolished by methylene blue treatment. In summary, the present findings suggest that in the icv KH-pressor effect the cation leak-inducing action of KH is implicated, which leads to the increased central sympathetic tone, that the iv KH-depressor effect results from the vasorelaxation via NO-guanylate cyclase system, and that the KH-vasorelaxation is independent of the endothelium and the... -
The Regulation of AP-1 DNA Binding Activity by Long-term Nicotine Stimulation in Bovine Adrenal Medullary Chromaffin Cells Role of Second Messengers
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 7 109-112 (4 pages)
The signal pathways involved in the regulation of AP-1 DNA binding activity in long-term nicotine stimulated bovine adrenal medullary chromaffin (BAMC) cells have not been well characterized. To understand the involvement of second messengers in the regulation of AP-1 DNA binding activity, the present study was designed to define the time-course for inhibition of nicotine-induced responses by cholinergic antagonists, Ca2 and calmodulin (CaM) antagonists, and calcium/calmodulin-dependent... -
Effect of Brain Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists and Antisense Oligonucleotide on Drinking and Renal Renin in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.2 8 137-142 (6 pages)
The physiological roles of brain angiotensin II in mediating water deprivation-induced drinking and in regulating renal renin release were assessed in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Specific AT1 receptor antagonists, losartan and SK 1080, and antisense oligonucleotide (AS-ODN) directed to AT1 receptor mRNA were intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) administered in conscious unrestrained rats. When water was given 20 min after i.c.v. injection of AT1 receptor antagonists in 48-h water-deprived rats,... -
The Role of K+ Channels on Spontaneous Action Potential in Rat Clonal Pituitary GH3 Cell Line

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.2 1 81-90 (10 pages)
The types of K channel which determine the pattern of spontaneous action potential (SAP) were investigated using whole-cell variation of patch clamp techniques under current- and voltage-clamp recording conditions in rat clonal pituitary GH3 cells. Heterogeneous pattern of SAP activities was changed into more regular mode with elongation of activity duration and afterhyperpolarization by treatment of TEA (10 mM). Under this condition, exposure of the class III antiarrhythmic agent E-4031... -
Role of Ca2+ in the Stimulation of Glucose Transport by Insulin in Adipocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 14 357-364 (8 pages)
We investigated the role of Ca2 and protein kinases/phosphatases in the stimulatory effect of insulin on glucose transport. In isolated rat adipocytes, the simple omission of CaCl2 from the incubation medium significantly reduced, but did not abolish, insulin-stimulated 2-deoxy glucose (2-DG) uptake. Pre-loading adipocytes with intracellular Ca2 chelator, 5,5'-dimethyl bis (o-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N'N' tetraacetic acetoxymethyl ester (5,5'-dimethyl BAPTA/AM) completely blocked... -
Minimal Amount of Insulin Can Reverse Diabetic Heart Function Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ Transport and Phospholamban Protein Expression

all. Thus, the decreased SR Ca2 uptake appear to be largely attributed to the decreased SR Ca2-ATPase level, which is further impaired due to the inhibition by the increased level of phospholamban. These results indicate that insulin is involved in the control of intracellular Ca2 in the cardiomyocyte through multiple target proteins via multiple mechanisms for the decrease in the mRNA for both SR Ca2-ATPase and phospholamban which are unknown and needs further study. -
Regulation of Magnesium Release by cAMP during Chemical Hypoxia in the Rat Heart and Isolated Ventricular Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 8 59-68 (10 pages)
Chemically induced hypoxia has been shown to induce a depletion of ATP. Since intracellular free Mg2 ([Mg2]i) appears to be tightly regulated following cellular energy depletion, we hypothesized that the increase in [Mg2]i would result in Mg2 extrusion following hormonal stimulation. To determine the relation between Mg2 efflux and cellular energy state in a hypoxic rat heart and isolated myocytes, [Mg2]i, ATP and Mg2 content were measured by... -
Effects of Neonatal Footshock Stress on Glucocorticoid and 5- HT2A/2C Receptor Bindings and Exploratory Behavior
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.6 4 677-685 (9 pages)
To investigate the effects of neonatal stress on behavior and neurochemistry, rats were exposed to the footshock stress on postnatal day (PND) 14 or PNDs 14 and 21. Rats were exposed to uncontrollable electric shocks delivered to the floor with a constant current (0.8 mA) for 5 sec period. Daily sessions consisted of 60 trials on a random time schedule with an average of 55 sec. The first exposure to footshocks on PND 14 decreased body weight gain for 1 day. However, the second exposure to... -

215±37%) at 10-7 M. In OMCT, ET-1 and ET-2 increased [Ca2]i in a dose-dependent manner (10-10∼10-6 M). To the contrary, ET-3-induced [Ca2]i rise was begun from 10-12 M. BQ-123Na, an antagonist of ETA receptor, at 10-4 M inhibited about 30% of [Ca2]i rise induced by ET-1 and -3. Binding experiments using [125I]ET-3 showed the existence of ETB receptor in OMCT. This binding was replaced by ET-1, ET-2 or ET-3 by the almost same degree but not by angiotensin II or vasopressin. -
Platelet-Activating Factor Enhances Interleukin-1 Activity by Alveolar Macrophages Inhibition by PAF Specific Receptor Antagonists
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 10 201-208 (8 pages)
It is becoming increasingly clear that the inflammatory reaction can be ascribed to a complex array of mediators generated and released from activated phagocytes. In this study, the effect of PAF on interleukin-1(IL-1) activity by rat alveolar macrophages(AM) was examined using thymocyte proliferation assay in the supernate of sample obtained after 24 hr culture. When AM were cultured with PAF alone, no change in IL-1 activity was observed. However, the combined addition of PAF and muramyl...
