Using fluorescence polarization of 12-(9-anthroyloxy)stearic acid (12-AS) and 2-(9-anthroyloxy)stearic acid (2-AS), we evaluated the differential effects of local anesthetics on differential rotational rate between the surface (in carbon number 2 and its surroundings including the head group) and the hydrocarbon interior (in carbon number 12 and its surroundings) of the outer monolayer of the total lipid fraction liposome extracted from synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles. The anisotropy (r)... -
Assessment of Flavin-containing Monooxygenase (FMO) Activity by Determining Urinary Ratio of Theobromine and Caffeine in a Korean Population after Drinking a Cup of Coffee
Woon-GyeChung, , Ju-HeeKang, Hyung-KeunRoh, Kyung-HoonLee, Chang-ShinPark, Young-NamCha, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.2 11 207-213 (7 pages)
To examine individual variation in drug metabolism catalyzed by flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO), 179 Korean volunteers' urinary molar concentration ratio of theobromine (TB) and caffeine (CA) was determined. Their urine was collected for 1 hr (between 4 and 5 hrs) after they drank a cup of coffee containing 115 mg CA and analyzed by an HPLC system. The lowest TB/CA ratio obtained was 0.40, the highest ratio was 15.17 (38-fold difference), and the median ratio for all subjects was 1.87.... -
Activation of SAPK and Increase in Bak Levels during Ceramide and Indomethacin-Induced Apoptosis in HT29 Cells

It has been reported that activation of sphingomyelin pathway and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) inhibit the promotion of colon carcinoma. Ceramide, a metabolite of sphingomyelin, and indomethacin were shown to induce apoptosis in colon carcinoma cells. However, the mechanisms of ceramide- and indomethacin-induced apoptosis in the colon carcinoma cells are not clearly elucidated. Recent studys showed that indomethacin-induced apoptosis in colon cancer cells through the... -
Modulation of ATP-Induced Activation of the Muscarinic K+ Channel Activity by Protein Kinase C
Yang-MiKim, Hong-KiPark, Jae-HeeHan, Choon-OkPark, Seong-GeunHong 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.6 11 743-753 (11 pages)
The atrial acetylcholine-activated K (KACh) channel is gated by the pertussis toxin-sensitive inhibitory G (GK) protein. Earlier studies revealed that ATP alone can activate the KACh channel via transphosphorylation mediated by nucleoside-diphosphate kinase (NDPK) in atrial cells of rabbit and guinea pig. This channel can be activated by various agonists and also modulated its function by phosphorylation. ATP-induced KACh channel activation (AIKA) was maintained in the presence of the... -
Further Characterization of Bombesin Like Immunoreactivities from the Skin of Korean Fire-bellied Toad, Bombina orientalis

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 12 637-644 (8 pages)
Previously, we have isolated authentic bombesin and another bombesin like peptide named bombesin like immunoreactivity (BLI)-K2 from the skin of Korean fire-bellied toad, Bombina orientalis. In the present study, we have newly purified three heterogeneous forms of BLI named BLI-K3, BLI-K4, and BLI-K5 from side fractions obtained in previous isolation of bombesin like peptide. The BLIs were separated into five peaks on a column of C18 preparative HPLC. Among them, three minor peaks containing... -
Increased Activity of Large Conductance Ca2+-Activated K+ Channels in Negatively-Charged Lipid Membranes

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 15 529-539 (11 pages)
surface charge was predicted by a 3-barrier-2-site model of energy profile for the permeation of K ions. In conclusion, despite the differences in structure and fluidity of phospholipids in bilayers, the activities of maxi K channels in two charged membranes composed of PS or PI were strikingly similar and larger than those in bilayers of PE. These results suggest that the enhancement of conductance and Po of maxi channels is mostly due to negative charges in the phospholipid head groups. -
Inhibitory Effects of Ginseng Saponins on c-fos mRNA Expression and the Proliferation of Rat Aortic Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Stimulated by Angiotensin II

It has been reported that the g1ycoprotein extracted from A10e has strong anti-inflammatory response, However, there has been no research report yet about the effect of A10e on allergic hypersensitivity reactivity, By using guinea pig 1ung mast cells, this study aimed to examine the effects of A10e g1ycoprotein (NY945) on the mediator re1eases caused by mast cell activation, and a1so aimed to assess the effects of NY945 on the mechanism of mediator re1eases in the mast cell activation. We... -
Nitric Oxide Prevents the Bovine Cerebral Endothelial Cell Death Induced by Serum-Deprivation

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 6 515-521 (7 pages)
Endothelial cells play a central role in the inflammatory processes, and activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) is a key component in that inflammatory processes. Previously, we reported that tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFα) had protective effect of cell death induced by serum deprivation and this protection was related to NF-κB activation. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) is a member of the molecules which transcription is regulated mainly by NF-κB. And the role of nitric... -
Regulation of AQP-4 Water Channel Expression in the Brain during Development and by Ischemia

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 4 495-504 (10 pages)
Water transport is mediated by two distinct pathways, diffusional and channel-mediated water transport. The first molecular water channel was identified from human erythrocytes in 1992. Genetically-related proteins from other mammalian tissues have subsequently been identified to transport water, and the group is referred to as th "Aquaporins". Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is most abundant in the brain, which may be involved in CSF reabsorption and osmoregulation. However, ontogeny and regulatory...
