We developed many methods for our environment to be efficient : in compiler, the analysis of member variable and method parallelism, and in runtime system, thread/message merging and frame sharing. The programming environment is implemented with MPI message interface, and its performance is analyzed with executing benchmark programs. The results show that the developed methods have influence on performance improvement, and this improvement can be applied to general parallel processing systems. -

detect center points of blank lines along the vertically sampled lines. Then we calculate the slope between neighboring center points in the same blank line. Calculated slopes for the entire image are accumulated on the histogram to display the distribution of them. Finally, the peak in the histogram is detected and estimated as the slope of the document image. In the experiments, we adopted a lot of images of various format with hand-printed or machine-printed document to verify our algorithm. -

Adapting a new approach that differs from the conventional methods with revised updating equation, the proposed method can be used together with the existing methods to improve the learning performance. We conducted some experiments to test the proposed method on simple problems of pattern recognition and a problem of time series prediction, compared our results with the results of the existing methods, and confirmed that the proposed method is efficient enough to apply to the real problems. -

as transaction database until now. But as the large discount store using customer card emerges, the analysis is not only required about transactions, but also about the relation between transactions and customer data. That is, it is required to search association rules from two databases. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm constructing links from one database to the other. Our experiments show the algorithm using link is useful for temporal analysis of memory-resident customer database. -

of the weights are the major factors which contribute to the quantization effect. We present a design method for an MLP which minimizes the quantization effect when the precision of the quantization is given. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method, we developed a network by our method and compared it with the one developed by the regular backpropagation. We could confirm that the network developed by our method performs better even with a low precision of the quantization. -

of objects. This paper introduces qualitative collision theory and reasoning techniques. Force and motion transfers are computed by analyzing the interactions of the spatial properties and motions of the objects. This paper also presents inference techniques for handling discontinuous changes and angular changes by rotation. These theories and inference techniques are implemented and applied to real car-to-car collision accidents. The test results verify the reliabilities of our techniques. -

Based on this selective attention strategy, we can minimize the time cost and maximize the accuracy of the skew estimation.We have measured the performance of the proposed method by an experiment with 2,016 images of various English and Korean documents. The average run time is 0.19 second on a Pentium 200MHz PC, and the average error is $pm$0.08 degree. We also have proven the superiority of our algorithm by comparing the performance with that of other well-known methods in the literature. -
