liver, both ARPGCB and GCB3004 produced similar toxicity profiles. In particular, these two formulas exhibited similar phospho-protein profiling of p65/nuclear factor (NF)-κB, c-Jun/activator protein (AP)-1, ERK, JNK, p38, caspase 3, and bcl-2 in brain. In contrast, the patterns of these phospho-proteins were variable in other tissues. Moreover, these two formulas did not exhibit any cytotoxicity in C6 glioma cells. Finally, the two formulations at available in vivo concentrations did not block... -
The Effects of Tramadol on Electroencephalographic Spectral Parameters and Analgesia in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.3 12 191-198 (8 pages)
The effects of different doses of tramadol on analgesia and electroencephalographic (EEG) spectral parameters were compared in rats. Saline or tramadol 5, 10, 20 or 40 mg/kg was administered. The degree of analgesia was evaluated by tail-flick latency, and the degree of seizure was measured using numerical seizure score (NSS). Additionally, band powers, median power frequency and spectral edge frequency 95 were measured to quantify the EEG response. All doses of tramadol produced spike-wave... -
Role of Dopamine Receptors on Electroencephalographic Changes Produced by Repetitive Apomorphine Treatments in Rats

Repeated psychostimulants induce electroencephalographic (EEG) changes, which reflect adaptation of the neural substrate related to dopaminergic pathways. To study the role of dopamine receptors in EEG changes, we examined the effect of apomorphine, the dopamine D1 receptor antagonist, SCH-23390, and the D2 receptor antagonist, haloperidol, on EEG in rats. For single and repeated apomorphine treatment groups, the rats received saline or apomorphine for 4 days followed by a 3-day withdrawal... -
Maternal Social Separation of Adolescent Rats Induces Hyperactivity and Anxiolytic Behavior

Exposure to early stressful adverse life events such as maternal and social separation plays an essential role in the development of the nervous system. Adolescent Sprague-Dawley rats that were separated on postnatal day 14 from their dam and litters (maternal social separation, MSS) showed hyperactivity and anxiolytic behavior in the open field test, elevated plus-maze test, and forced-swim test. Biologically, the number of astrocytes was significantly increased in the prefrontal cortex of MSS... -
Physiological, Pharmacological and Toxicological Implications of Heterodimeric Amino Acid Transporters

may be damaging neurons leading to the exacerbation of brain damage after brain ischemia. Because of broad substrate selectivity, system L transporters such as LAT1 transport amino acid-related compounds including L-Dopa and function as a drug transporter. System L also interacts with some environmental toxins with amino acid-related structure such as cysteine-conjugated methylmercury. Therefore, these transporter would be candidates for drug targets based on new therapeutic strategies. -
Responses of Inferior Olive Neurons to Stimulation of Semicircular Canals. II. Vertical Semicircular Canalss
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.4 1 193-198 (6 pages)
In the present study, the vestibularly evoked activity of inferior olive (IO) neurons was examined to investigate the vertical vestibular information transmitted through the vestibulo-olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber pathway. The extracellular recording was made in 74 neurons of the IO of cats, while animals were sinusoidally rotated. Most of vestibularly activated IO neurons responded to the vertical rotation (roll) test and were found in or near the β subnuclei (IOβ). The vestibular IO... -
Effects of Carnosine and Related Compounds on Monosaccharide Autoxidation and H2O2 Formation
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.3 3 251-261 (11 pages)
The effects of carnosine and related compounds (CRCs) including anserine, homocarnosine, histidine, and β-alanine on monosaccharide autoxidation and H2O2 formation were investigated. The incubation of CRCs with D-glucose, D-glucosamine, and D, L-glyceraldehyde at 37oC increased the absorption maxima at 285 nm, 273 nm, and 290∼330 nm, respectively. D, L-glyceraldehyde was the most reactive sugar with CRCs. The presence of copper strongly stimulated the reaction of carnosine and anserine with... -
Two Types of Voltage-dependent Outward Potassium Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells of Rabbit Basilar Atery
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 15 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 7 169-183 (15 pages)
We have investigated the two types of voltage-dependent outward potassium (K) currents, i.e. delayed rectifier K current (IK(V)) and 'A-like' transient outward K current (Ito) with patch-clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells (SMCs) isolated from rabbit basilar artery, and investigated the characteristics of them. The time-courses of activation were well fitted by exponential function raised to second power (n2) in IK(v) and fourth power (n4) in Ito. The activation, inactivation and... -
Higher Serum C Reactive Protein Determined C Reactive Protein Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms Are Involved in Inherited Depression

Objective_The pathogenesis of depression is not fully understood yet, but studies have suggested higher circulating C reactive protein (CRP) level might relate to depression occurrence. However, due to high variability of patients’ individual condition, the results to date are inconsistent. Considering CRP single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) could also regulate plasma CRP levels, in the present study, we hypothesized that inherited CRP allelic variations may co-vary with depressive...
