followed by 15 min reoxygenation reduced DNA damage level against subsequent 30 min anoxia and 60 min reoxygenation. These protective effects were blocked by the concomitant presence of glibenclamide (50μM), 5-hydroxydecanoate (5-HD) (100μM) and 8-(4-Chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate, Rp-isomer (Rp-8-pCPT-cGMP) (100μM). These results suggest that NO-cGMP-protein kinase G (PKG) pathway contributes to cardioprotective effect of KATP channels in rat ventricular myocytes. -
Presynaptic Mechanism Underlying Regulation of Transmitter Release by G Protein Coupled Receptors

G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are expressed in the presynaptic terminals of central and peripheral synapses and play regulatory roles in transmitter release. The patch-clamp whole-cell recording technique, applied to the calyx of Held presynaptic terminal in brainstem slices of rodents, has made it possible to directly examine intracellular mechanisms underlying the GPCR-mediated presynaptic inhibition. At the calyx of Held, bath-application of agonists for GPCRs such as GABAB receptors,... -
A Role of Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases and Inflammatory Responses in Gender Differences in Kidney Ischemia Injury

mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) or inflammatory responses to ischemia. Female mice were protected against kidney ischemia when compared with males. Thirty minutes of bilateral ischemia resulted in marked functional and morphological damages in males, but not in females. The ischemia-induced phosphorylation of c-jun N-terminal stress-activated protein kinases (JNKs) was higher in males than in females. Phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) was lower in males... -
Effect of Heat Shock Protein 72 on the Generation of Reperfusion Arrhythmias
MoonJunChang, HeungSikNa, HyunJungNam, KyungSikPyun, SeungKilHong 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

The causal relationship between heat shock protein (HSP) and second window of cardioprotective effect is still undetermined. In the present study, we assessed whether HSP-producing substances, amphetamine and ketamine, afforded protection against reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation (VF) and these protective effect remained after the inhibition of HSP72 production by quercetin, a mitochondrial ATPase inhibitor. Adult mongreal male cats (n=60, 2.5∼4 kg) were used in this study.... -
Effects of Protein Kinase C Modulation on Hepatic Hemodynamics and Glucoregulation

vs 71.8⁑2.50μmoles/g/hr), lactate production rate (72.4⁑6.82 vs 53.6⁑4.82μmoles/g/hr) and oxygen consumption rate (33.7⁑1.41 vs 27.9⁑1.75μl/g/min). The effects of PMA were blocked either by addition of verapamil (9μM) or perfusion with Ca2-free KRB. These results suggest that the hemodynamic and glucoregulatory changes in the perfused rat liver are mediated by protein kinase C activation and require Ca2 influx from the extracellular fluid. -
Systemic Injection of Lidocaine Induce Expression of c-fos mRNA and Protein in Adult Rat Brain

convulsion within 10 min increased the level of c-fos mRNA and protein in forebrain areas. In situ hybridization using [35S]UTP-labeled antisense c-fos, cRNA increased c-fos mRNA levels though hippocampal formation, piriform cortex, septum, caudate-putamen, neostriatum, and amygdala within 2 hr. In parallel with the mRNA expression, c-FOS protein immunoreactivity was also observed in the same forebrain areas. In contrast to the seizure activity and widespread neuronal degeneration following a... -

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bone inducing effects on the maxillary sinus of rabbits using the first commercial rhBMP-2 in South Korea and to investigate the influence of supplementation with collagen sponges. Materials and Methods: Two circular windows (diameter, about 4 mm) was formed in the nasal bone of rabbit The preparated maxillary sinuses were filled with collagen sponges (Terudermis?) alone in three groups. In the other three groups, the preparated maxillary... -

to local and systemic movement of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) expressing the green fluorescent protein, suggesting that the CMV 1a protein may act to prevent the function of the SHE1 protein. SHE1 is a member of the AP2/ERF class of transcription factors and is conserved in sequence in several Nicotiana species, although two clades of SHE1 could be discerned, including both different Nicotiana species and cultivars of tobacco, varying by the pres- ence of particular insertions or deletions. -
A LysM Domain-Containing Protein LtLysM1 Is Important for Vegetative Growth and Pathogenesis in Woody Plant Pathogen Lasiodiplodia theobromae

signal peptide trap as- say. Transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana together with protein immunoblotting confirmed that LtLysM1 was an N-glycosylated protein. In contrast to previously reported LysM protein Slp1 and OsCEBiP, LtLysM1 molecule did not interact with itself based on yeast two hybrid and co-immunoprecipitation assays. These results indicate that LtLysM1 is a secreted protein and functions as a critical virulence factor during the disease symptom development in woody plants. -
Full-Length Infectious Clones of Two New Isolates of Tomato Mosaic Virus Induce Distinct Symptoms Associated with Two Differential Amino Acid Residues in 128-kDa Protein

In 2017, two new tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) isolates were collected from greenhouses in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam- do, South Korea. Full-length cDNAs of the new ToMV isolates were cloned into dual cauliflower mosaic virus 35S and T7 promoter-driven vectors, sequenced and their pathogenicities investigated. The nucleotide sequences of isolates GW1 (MH507165) and GW2 (MH507166) were 99% identical, resulting in only two amino acid differences in nonconserved region II and the helicase domain, Ile668Thr...
