Effects of Repeated Citalopram Treatments on Chronic Mild Stress- Induced Growth Associated Protein-43 mRNA Expression in Rat Hippocampus
Sang-HaPark, Song-hyenChoi, JiminLee, SeungwooKang, You-ChanShin, Hyun-JuKim, HyunJungKim, SeungKeonShin, Min-SooLee, Kyung-HoShin 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

Although growth associated protein-43 (GAP-43) is known to play a significant role in the regulation of axonal growth and the formation of new neuronal connections in the hippocampus, there is only a few studies on the effects of acute stress on GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus. Moreover, the effects of repeated citalopram treatment on chronic mild stress (CMS)-induced changes in GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus have not been explored before. To explore this question, male rats... -
Roles of Gonadal Steroids on Exocrine Secretion of Isolated Perfused Rat Pancreas
HyungSeoPark, SeHoonKim, HyoungJinPark, MeeYoungLee, YoungHeeHan 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.4 5 217-221 (5 pages)
To clarify the roles of gonadal steroids on pancreatic exocrine secretion, effects of progesterone and estradiol-17β on spontaneous and secretagogue-induced exocrine response of isolated perfused rat pancreas were investigated. Intra-arterial infusion of progesterone resulted in significant increase of the spontaneous pancreatic fluid and amylase secretion dose-dependently. However, estradiol-17β did not exert any influence on spontaneous pancreatic exocrine secretion. Exogenous secretin,... -
Blockade of p38 Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Pathway Inhibits Interleukin-6 Release and Expression in Primary Neonatal Cardiomyocytes
Han-JungChae, Hyun-KiKim, Wan-KuLee, Soo-WanChae 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

The induction of interleukin-6 (IL-6) using combined proinflammatory agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/ IFN-γ) was studied in relation to p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and NF-κB transcriptional factor in primary neonatal cardiomyocytes. When added to cultures of cardiomyocytes, the combined agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/IFN-γ) had stimulatory effect on the production of IL-6 and the elevation was significantly reduced by SB203580, a specific p38 MAPK inhibitor. SB203580 inhibited... -
Thyroid Hormone-Induced Alterations of Ryanodine and Dihydropyridine Receptor Protein Expression in Rat Heart

the activity of sarcolemmal Ca2 channels, the dihydropyridine receptors. In hyperthyroidism left ventricular contractility and relaxation velocity were increased, whereas these parameters were decreased in hypothyroidism. The mechanisms for these changes have been suggested to include alterations in the expression and/or activity levels of various proteins. In the present study, quantitative changes of ryanodine receptors and the dihydropyridine receptors, and the functional consequences... -
Tissue-Specific Regulation of Angiotensinogen and Angiotensin II Receptor Gene Expression in Deoxycorticosterone Acetate-Salt Hypertensive Rats

Molecular regulation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) was investigated in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertension. The expression of renin, angiotensinogen and angiotensin II receptor genes in the kidney and liver was determined by Northern blot analysis in rats which were made DOCA-salt hypertensive over the period of 2 or 4 weeks. Along with the hypertension, renin mRNA was decreased in the remnant kidney. The expression of angiotensinogen gene was not significantly altered... -
Thyroid Hormone-Induced Alterations of Ca2+-ATPase and Phospholamban Protein Expression in Cardiac Sarcoplasmic Reticulum

changes have been suggested to include alterations in the expression and/or activity levels of various proteins; α-myosin heavy chain, β- myosin heavy chain, β-receptors, the guanine nucleotide-binding regulatory protein, and the sarcolemmal Ca2-ATPase. All these cellular alterations may be associated with changes in the intracellular Ca2 concentration. The most important regulator of intracellular Ca2 concentration is the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), which serves as a... -
Acute Pulmonary Responses in Vivo to Silica Complexed with H+, Zn2+, or Fe3+

4-fold. However, compared among these silica groups, Fe3 complexation did not significantly change the LDH activity and total protein. NO production in cultured bronchoalveolar lavage cells was elevated by 2-fold, following IT any of the silica treatments compared with the saline group. Furthermore, the steady-state levels of iNOS mRNA in the lavage cells were greatly increased. There were any differences in iNOS mRNA expression among the silica-treated groups as with NO production. These... -
Systemic Injection of Lidocaine Induce Expression of c-fos mRNA and Protein in Adult Rat Brain

formation, piriform cortex, septum, caudate-putamen, neostriatum, and amygdala within 2 hr. In parallel with the mRNA expression, c-FOS protein immunoreactivity was also observed in the same forebrain areas. In contrast to the seizure activity and widespread neuronal degeneration following a kainate treatment, injections of lidocaine did not produce neuronal death within 3 days. The present study indicates that lidocaine induces convulsion and c-fos expression without causing neurotoxicity. -

the RAS components in various tissues in response to chronic administration of an ACE inhibitor, enalapril, were examined in Sprague-Dawley male rats. Enalapril was administered in their drinking water (3∼4 mg/day) over 8 wk. Plasma and renal ACE activity increased significantly after 4 and 8 wk of enalapril treatment. Renin levels of the plasma and kidney of the enalapril-treated rats markedly increased after 4 wk and decreased thereafter, but still remained significantly higher than those of... -
Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase mRNA Expression and Nitric Oxide Production in Silica-Induced Acute Inflammatory Lung Injury

counts of broncho- alveolar lavage cells and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activity as well as total protein in the broncho-alveolar lavage fluid were determined. Broncho-alveolar lavage cells were also assayed for iNOS mRNA and the productions of nitrite and nitrate measured in the cells cultured. Differential analysis of broncho-alveolar lavage cells showed that the number of alveolar macrophages slightly decreased following silica treatment; however, red blood cells, lymphocytes, and neutrophils...
