Suppression of Rice Stripe Virus Replication in Laodelphax striatellus Using Vector Insect-Derived Double-Stranded RNAs
Ying Fang, Jae Young Choi, Dong Hwan Park, Min Gu Park, Jun Young Kim, Minghui Wang, Hyun Ji Kim, Woo Jin Kim, Yeon Ho Je 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 3호 8 280-288 (9 pages)
RNA interference (RNAi) has attracted attention as a promising approach to control plant viruses in their insect vectors. In the present study, to suppress replication of the rice stripe virus (RSV) in its vector, Laodelphax striatellus, using RNAi, dsRNAs against L. striatellus genes that are strongly upregulated upon RSV infection were delivered through a rice leaf-medi- ated method. RNAi-based silencing of peroxiredoxin, cathepsin B, and cytochrome P450 resulted in significant down regulation... -
Screening and Application of Bacillus Strains Isolated from Nonrhizospheric Rice Soil for the Biocontrol of Rice Blast

한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 3호 4 231-243 (13 pages)
Rice blast, caused by Magnaporthe oryzae, is one of the most destructive rice diseases worldwide. The aim of this study was to screen bacterial isolates to efficiently prevent the occurrence of rice blast. A total of 232 bacterial isolates were extracted from nonrhizospheric rice soil and were screened for antifungal activity against M. oryzae using a leaf segment assay. Strains S170 and S9 showed significant antagonistic activity against M. oryzae in vitro and in leaf disk assays, and... -
Proteomic Reference Map and Comparative Analysis between Streptomyces griseus S4-7 and wbiE2 Transcription Factor-Mutant Strain
Jisu Kim, Young Sang Kwon, Dong-Won Bae, Youn-Sig Kwak 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 2호 8 185-191 (7 pages)
Streptomyces griseus S4-7, a well-characterized key- stone taxon among strawberry microbial communi- ties, shows exceptional disease-preventing ability. The whole-genome sequence, functional genes, and bioactive secondary metabolites of the strain have been described in previous studies. However, proteomics studies of not only the S4-7 strain, but also the Streptomyces genus as a whole, remain limited to date. Therefore, in the pres- ent study, we created a proteomics reference map for S.... -
Hexanal Vapor Induced Resistance against Major Postharvest Pathogens of Banana (Musa acuminata L.)

in cell wall thickening of the treated fruit, which impeded the penetration of the pathogenic spores. This was further confirmed by scan- ning electron micrographs. The defense-related protein intermediaries had increased in hexanal vapor treated banana fruit, which suggests induced resistance against C. gloeosporioides and L. theobromae, via., the phen- ylpropanoid pathway which plays a significant role in hindering the pathogen quiescence. Delayed ripening due to inhibition of phospholipase D... -
Nitric Oxide Plays an Important Role in β-Aminobutyric Acid-Induced Resistance to Botrytis cinerea in Tomato Plants
Rui Li, Jiping Sheng, Lin Shen 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 2호 2 121-132 (12 pages)
β-Aminobutyric acid (BABA) has consistently been reported to enhance plant immunity. However, the specific mechanisms and downstream components that mediate this resistance are not yet agreed upon. Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signal molecule involved in a diverse range of physiological processes, and whether NO is involved in BABA-induced resistance is interest- ing. In this study, treatment with BABA significantly increased NO accumulation and reduced the sensitivity to Botrytis cinerea... -
Genetic Diversity Studies and Identification of Molecular and Biochemical Markers Associated with Fusarium Wilt Resistance in Cultivated Faba Bean (Vicia faba)
Amer F. Mahmoud, Bahaa E. S. Abd El-Fatah 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 18 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 1호 2 11-28 (18 pages)
(protein profiles) were used to study the genetic diversity and detect molecular and biochemical markers associated with Fusarium wilt resistance in the tested genotypes. The results showed that certain genotypes of faba bean were resistant to Fusarium wilt, while most of the genotypes were highly susceptible. The percentage of disease severity ranged from 32.83% in Assiut-215 to 64.17% in Misr-3. The genotypes Assiut-215, Roomy-3, Marut-2, and Giza-2 were the most resistant, and the genotypes... -
Salicylic Acid as a Safe Plant Protector and Growth Regulator
Young Mo Koo, A Yeong Heo, Hyong Woo Choi 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 1호 1 1-10 (10 pages)
Since salicylic acid (SA) was discovered as an elicitor of tobacco plants inducing the resistance against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) in 1979, increasing reports suggest that SA indeed is a key plant hormone regulating plant immunity. In addition, recent studies indicate that SA can regulate many different responses, such as tolerance to abiotic stress, plant growth and development, and soil microbiome. In this review, we focused on the recent findings on SA’s effects on resistance to biotic... -
IsIsolation and Characterization of Airborne Mushroom Damaging Trichoderma spp. from Indoor Air of Cultivation Houses Used for Oak Wood Mushroom Production Using Sawdust Mediaolation and Characterization of Airborne Mushroom Damaging Trichoderma spp. from

한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2019, 35권 6호 13 674-683 (10 pages)
Some species of the Trichoderma genus are reported as the major problem in oak wood mushroom production in Korea. In spite of economic loss by the fungi, scientific information on airborne Trichoderma species is not much available. To generate information for disease management development we analyzed airborne Trichoderma. A total of 1,063 fungal isolates were purely obtained from indoor air sampling of cultivation houses used for oak wood mushroom using sawdust media. Among the obtained... -

the infection. The seven transcripts were homologous to genes encoding a flavonoid glucosyltransferase, a metallothionein-like protein, a senescence-induced protein, a chitinase, a wound-induced protein, and proteins of unknown function. These genes have functions related to responses to environmental stresses, including pathogen infections. Our results can be useful for the development of molecular markers for early detection of the disease or for use in breeding white rotresistant cultivars. -
Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl China Virus Impairs Photosynthesis in the Infected Nicotiana benthamiana with βC1 as an Aggravating Factor

quantitative PCR analysis of oxygen evolving complex genes in photosystem II, such as PsbO, PsbP, PsbQ, and PsbR, showed a significant reduction of the relative expression of these genes at the late stage of TYLCCNV A + β infection and at the vegetative stage of βC1 transgenic N. benthamiana plants. In summary, this study revealed the pathogenicity of TYLCCNV in photosynthesis and disclosed the effect of βC1 in exacerbating the damage in photosynthesis efficiency by TYLCCNV infection.
