40 mM) induced contraction of muscle strip. In calcium-free high potassium solution EGb depressed the basal tone of the depolarized muscle strip and inhibited calcium-induced contraction when 2 (10-4 M) was added. These results suggest that EGb relaxes rabbit corpus cavernosal smooth muscle through multiple action mechanisms that include increasing the release of nitric oxide from the corporal sinusoidal endothelium, sequestration of intracytosolic calcium, and maybe a hyperpolarizing action. -
Transformation of Rabbit Proximal Tubule Cells by Strontium Phosphate Transfection with a Plasmid Containing SV4O Early Region Genes
8 Pages
14 233-240 (8 pages)
In this study, it was investigated whether immortalized proximal tubule cells transformed with pRSVT could survive through the numerous passages. Results were as follows: 1. The cells transfected with pRSVT formed rapidly growing, multilayered colonies within 2 weeks in a hormone defined medium. Domes were also observed in some of the cultures. 2. r-glutamyl transpeptidase activity was equivalent to that observed in primary renal proximal tubule cell cultures. 3. Transformed cells with pRSVT... -
A Central Pressor Response to Endogenous Nitric Oxide Synthesis Inhibition in Anesthetized Rats
10 197-202 (6 pages)
The present study was aimed to determine if endogenous L-arginine-nitric oxide (NO) pathway has central, rather than peripheral, mechanisms in blood pressure regulation. Arterial blood pressure and heart rate responses to acute inhibition of the t-arginine-NO pathway were examined in rats anesthetized with thiopental (50 mg/kg, IP). An intracerebroventricular (ICV) cannula was placed in the left lateral ventricle. The right femoral artery was cannulated to measure arterial blood pressure and... -
Role of Na+Ca2+ Exchange in the Control of Contractility in Rabbit Basilar Arterial Smooth Muscle
10 Pages

intracellular Ca2+ release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, did not suppress the development of Na+-free contracture. The contractile response to norepinephrine (10-6 M) was augmented by reducing the extracellular Na+ concentration. The relaxation rate from caffeine-induced contraction was dependent on the extracellular Na+ concentration (0 mM, 140 mM). From the above results, it could be suggested that Na+/Ca2+ exchange can move Ca2+ either into or out of rabbit basilar arterial smooth muscle.... -
The Effects of Bombesin on the Afferent Sensory Transmission in the Spinal Trigeminal Nucleus of Anesthetized Rats
8 Pages
11 105-112 (8 pages)
The present study was carried out to determine the effects of intracisternal administration of three doses of bombesin (0.001, 0.01 and 0.1 μg) on afferent somatosensory transmission in single neurons of the spinal trigeminal nucleus of anesthetized rats. Lower doses (0.001 μg) of bombegin did not change the afferent sensory transmission. Medium doses (0.01 μg) of bombesin significantly (p p<0.01) facilitated afferent sensory transmission in the 6 to 30 min post-drug period, but higher doses... -
Production and Characterization of Specific Antibodies to Bombesin
8 Pages
9 91-98 (8 pages)
In order to produce a specific bombesin antiserum far very sensitive radioimmunoassay, synthetic [lys3]-bombesin conjugated to bovine serum albumin was subcutaneously injected into guinea pigs. The conjugation was performed using either carbodiimide or gIutaraldehyde as a coupling agent. The antisera were characterized by analysis of Scatchard and Sips plots. The antiserum LBE 2G/2 raised by repeat injection of the immunogen conjugated with carbodiimide showed the titer of 1 : 188,000, very low... -
Effects of Centrally Administered Angiotensin ll Receptor Antagonists on the Cardiovascular and Hormonal Responses to Hemorrhage in Conscious SHR

and an enhanced renin release compared with the aCSF control experiment in SHR, but effected no significant change in WKY rats. Central Ang ll-blocked SHR showed significantly lower blood pressure and heart rate during the recovery period than the aCSF control rats. Vasopressin release tallowing the hemorrhage was attenuated by icv Ang ll antagonists: the effect was more pronounced in SHR than in WKY rats. Centrally administered losartan and saralasin produced remarkably similar effects on the... -
Effect of Nifedipine on Endocrine and Cardiovascular Responses to Angiotensin II in SHR Fed with Different Sodium Diets
Choi, Eun-Kyung, Park, Yoon-Yub, Ahn, Dong-Kuk, Park, Jae-Sik, Lee, Won-Jung 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 10 Pages
6 57-66 (10 pages)
Effects of a voltage dependent calcium channel antagonist, nifedipine, on the responses of blood pressure, and secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and aldosterone to angiotensin II (Ang II) were compared in male Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). A low, control or high sodium diet (2, 10 or 25 mmol Na/100 g diet) was fed for 6 weeks from the age of 6 weeks. On the morning of the experiment catheters were inserted under ether anesthesia in the femoral artery for pressure... -
Effect of Capsaicin on Causalgiform Pain in the Rat
Kim, Kwang-Jin, Jeon, Byeong-Hwa, Kim, Won-Sik, Park, Kyung-Ran, Choi, Sae-Jin 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 8 Pages

The purpose of this study is to obtain the effective concentration of capsaicin to relieve pain with no change in the number of C-fibers and its effective duration for pain relief. Capsaicin has been used extremely as a experimental tool and as topical medications for acute or chronic tissue injuries and partial nerve injury is the main cause of causalgiform pain disorders in humans. Here, the left sciatic nerve was ligated unilaterally at the high level of the thigh to prepare an animal model... -
Effects of pH, PCO2, and Adenosine on the Contractility of Pig Coronary Artery
10 Pages

to the level of the contraction at pH 7.4 by the elevation of extracellular. calcium [Ca2+]o. Adenosine-induced relaxation was more significant with 5% CO2 than 0% CO2 in the high K+-induced contraction and was more significant with low pHo than high pHo in the contraction induced by EFS. From the above results, it is suggested that H+ and CO2 inhibit Ca2+ influx as well as Ca2+ release from intracellular Ca2+ storage sites and enhance the relaxing effect of adenosine in the pig coronary artery.
