The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 17 517-526 (10 pages)
The present study was attempted to investigate whether polyphenolic compounds isolated from wine, which is brewed from Rubus coreanum Miquel (PCRC), may affect the release of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused adrenal medulla of the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), and to establish its mechanism of action. PCRC (20∼180Ռg/ml) perfused into an adrenal vein for 90 min relatively dose-dependently inhibited the CA secretory responses to ACh (5.32 mM), high K+ (56 mM), DMPP... -
The Influences of G Proteins, Ca2+, and K+ Channels on Electrical Field Stimulation in Cat Esophageal Smooth Muscle
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

(NOS) inhibitor, L-NAME, contraction by EFS occurs at the same time. The authors investigated the intracellular signaling pathways related with G protein and ionic channel EFS-induced contraction using cat esophageal muscles. EFS-induced contractions were significantly suppressed by tetrodotoxin (1ՌM) and atropine (1ՌM). Furthermore, nimodipine inhibited both on and off contractions by EFS in a concentration dependent meaner. The characteristics of 'on' and 'off' contraction and the... -
Preventing Extracellular Diffusion of Trigeminal Nitric Oxide Enhances Formalin-induced Orofacial Pain
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.5 8 379-383 (5 pages)
Nitric oxide (NO), a diffusible gas, is produced in the central nervous system, including the spinal cord dorsal horn and the trigeminal nucleus, the first central areas processing nociceptive information from periphery. In the spinal cord, it has been demonstrated that NO acts as pronociceptive or antinociceptive mediators, apparently in a concentration-dependent manner. However, the central role of NO in the trigeminal nucleus remains uncertain in support of processing the orofacial... -
Possible Involvement of Ca2+ Activated K+ Channels, SK Channel, in the Quercetin-Induced Vasodilatation

NOS) inhibitor, NG-monomethyl-L-arginine acetate (L-NMMA), at 100ՌM reduced the quercetin (100ՌM)-induced vasodilatation from 97.8±3.7% (n=10) to 78.0±11.6 % (n=5, p<0.05). Another NOS inhibitor, L-NG-nitro arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), at 100ՌM also had the similar effect. In the presence of both 100ՌM L-NMMA and 10ՌM indomethacin, the quercetin-induced vasodilatation was further attenuated by 100ՌM tetraethylammonium (TEA, a KCa channel inhibitor). Also... -

marker for neurons expressing Nos1 enzyme. Western blots were also performed to evaluate Nos1 and Fos expression. Wild-type Balb/c (WT group, n=10 male) and Stat4 KO mice (Stat4 KO group, n=8 male) were used. The body weight and daily food intake in the WT group were 22.4±0.3 and 4.4 g per day, while those in the Stat4 KO group were 18.7±0.4 and 1.8 g per day, respectively. Stat4 mice had lower body weight and food intake than Balb/c mice. Optical intensities of NADPH-d-positive neurons in the... -
Kainic Acid-induced Neuronal Death is Attenuated by Aminoguanidine but Aggravated by L-NAME in Mouse Hippocampus
Jong-SeonByun, Sang-HyunLee, Seong-HoJeon, Yong-SooKwon, HeeJaeLee, Sung-SooKim, Young-MyeongKim, Myong-JoKim, WanjooChun 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

(NOS) inhibitor, and aminoguanidine, a selective inducible NOS (iNOS) inhibitor, on kainic acid (KA)-induced seizures and hippocampal CA3 neuronal death. L-NAME (50 mg/kg, i.p.) and/or aminoguanidine (200 mg/kg, i.p.) were administered 1 h prior to the intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection of KA. Pretreatment with L-NAME significantly increased KA-induced CA3 neuronal death, iNOS expression, and activation of microglia. However, pretreatment with aminoguanidine significantly suppressed both... -
Deficiency of iNOS Does Not Prevent Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 3 153-159 (7 pages)
We investigated whether deficiency of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) could prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in iNOS knockout (KO) mice. Isoproterenol was continuously infused subcutaneously (15 mg/kg/day) using an osmotic minipump. Isoproterenol reduced body weight and fat mass in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice compared with saline-infused wild-type mice. Isoproterenol increased the heart weight in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice but there was no difference between iNOS... -
Resveratrol Inhibits Nicotinic Stimulation-Evoked Catecholamine Release from the Adrenal Medulla
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.4 5 155-164 (10 pages)
Resveratrol has been known to possess various potent cardiovascular effects in animal, but there is little information on its functional effect on the secretion of catecholamines (CA) from the perfused model of the adrenal medulla. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effect of resveratrol on the CA secretion from the isolated perfused model of the normotensive rat adrenal gland, and to elucidate its mechanism of action. Resveratrol (10∼100ՌM) during perfusion into... -
Identification of Differentially Expressed Genes in Murine Hippocampus by Modulation of Nitric Oxide in Kainic Acid-induced Neurotoxic Animal Model
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.4 3 149-154 (6 pages)
Kainic acid (KA) causes neurodegeneration, but no consensus has been reached concerning its mechanism. Nitric oxide may be a regulator of the mechanism. We identified differentially expressed genes in the hippocampus of mice treated with kainic acid, together with or without L-NAME, a nonselective nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, using a new differential display PCR method based on annealing control primers. Eight genes were identified, including clathrin light polypeptide, TATA element... -
Alteration of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Guanylyl Cyclase Activity in Rats with Ischemia/Reperfusion Renal Injury
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.6 7 337-342 (6 pages)
(NOS) and guanylyl cyclase (GC) activity in ischemia/perfusion (I/R) renal injury in rats. Renal I/R injury was experimentally induced by clamping the both renal pedicle for 40 min in Sprague-Dawley male rats. The renal expression of NOS isoforms was determined by Western blot analysis, and the activity of guanylyl cyclase was determined by the amount of guanosine 3', 5'-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) formed in response to sodium nitroprusside (SNP), NO donor. I/R injury resulted in renal failure...
