Functional Expression of P2Y Receptors in WERI-Rb1 Retinoblastoma Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.1 9 61-65 (5 pages)
P2Y receptors are metabotropic G-protein-coupled receptors, which are involved in many important biologic functions in the central nervous system including retina. Subtypes of P2Y receptors in retinal tissue vary according to the species and the cell types. We examined the molecular and pharmacologic profiles of P2Y purinoceptors in retinoblastoma cell, which has not been identified yet. To achieve this goal, we used Ca2+ imaging technique and western blot analysis in WERI-Rb-1 cell, a human... -
Inhibition of eNOS/sGC/PKG Pathway Decreases Akt Phosphorylation Induced by Kainic Acid in Mouse Hippocampus
SangHyunLee, JongSeonByun, PilJaeKong, HeeJaeLee, DukKyungKim, HaeSungKim, Jong-HeeSohn, JaeJunLee, , SoYoungLim, WanjooChun, SungSooKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

The serine/threonine kinase Akt has been shown to play a role of multiple cellular signaling pathways and act as a transducer of many functions initiated by growth factor receptors that activate phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K). It has been reported that phosphorylated Akt activates eNOS resulting in the production of NO and that NO stimulates soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), which results in accumulation of cGMP and subsequent activation of the protein kinase G (PKG). It has been also... -
Microarray Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes in the Brains of Tubby Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.2 4 91-98 (8 pages)
The tubby mouse is characterized by progressive retinal and cochlear degeneration and late-onset obesity. These phenotypes are caused by a loss-of-function mutation in the tub gene and are shared with several human syndromes, suggesting the importance of tubby protein in central nervous system (CNS) functioning. Although evidence suggests that tubby may act as a transcription factor mediating G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, any downstream gene regulated by tubby has yet to be... -
Modeling of Arrhythmogenic Automaticity Induced by Stretch in Rat Atrial Myocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.5 8 267-274 (8 pages)
Since first discovered in chick skeletal muscles, stretch-activated channels (SACs) have been proposed as a probable mechano-transducer of the mechanical stimulus at the cellular level. Channel properties have been studied in both the single-channel and the whole-cell level. There is growing evidence to indicate that major stretch-induced changes in electrical activity are mediated by activation of these channels. We aimed to investigate the mechanism of stretch-induced automaticity by... -
Prostaglandin E1 Increases cGMP Levels in Beating Rabbit Atria: Lack of Effects of PGE1-induced Cyclic Nucleotides on Secretory and Contractile Functions
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.5 3 175-182 (8 pages)
in atrial secretory responses were observed (with 1.0μM PGE1; for cGMP, 144.76±37.5%, n=11 versus -16.81±4.76%, n=6, control, p< 0.01; for cAMP, 187.60±41.52%, n=11 versus 7.38±19.44%, n=6, control, p<0.01). PGE1 decreased atrial dynamics slightly but transiently, whereas PGE2 showed similar effects but with lower potency. Isoproterenol increased atrial cAMP efflux (with 2.0 nM; 145.71±41.89, n=5 versus 7.38±19.44%, n=6, control, p<0.05) and mechanical dynamics and decreased ANP... -

Gap junction protein, connexin, is expressed in endothelial cells of vessels, glomerulus, and renin secreting cells of the kidney. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of gap junction in renin secretion and its underlying mechanisms using As 4.1 cell line, a renin-expressing clonal cell line. Renin release was increased proportionately to incubation time. The specific gap junction inhibitor, 18-beta glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) increased renin release in dose-dependent and time-... -
Ca2+-induced Ca2+ Release from Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Negatively Regulates Myocytic ANP Release in Beating Rabbit Atria
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 3 87-94 (8 pages)
Thapsigargin attenuated ryanodine-induced decrease in atrial dynamic changes. Blockade of L-type Ca2 channel with nifedipine abolished ryanodine-induced increase in ANP release (0.69⁑5.58% vs. 27.31⁑3.51%; P<0.001). In the presence of thapsigargin and ryanodine, nifedipine increased ANP release and decreased atrial dynamics. These data suggest that Ca2-induced Ca2 release from the SR is inversely involved in the regulation of atrial myocytic ANP release. -
Role of Stretch-Activated Channels in Stretch-Induced Changes of Electrical Activity
JaeBoumYoum, Su-HyunJo, ChaeHunLeem, Won-KyungHo, YungE. The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.1 6 33-41 (9 pages)
We developed a cardiac cell model to explain the phenomenon of mechano-electric feedback (MEF), based on the experimental data with rat atrial myocytes. It incorporated the activity of ion channels, pumps, exchangers, and changes of intracellular ion concentration. Changes in membrane excitability and Ca2 transients could then be calculated. In the model, the major ion channels responsible for the stretch-induced changes in electrical activity were the stretch-activated channels (SACs).... -
PDTC Inhibits TNF-α-Induced Apoptosis in MC3T3E1 Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.4 2 199-205 (7 pages)
Osteoblasts are affected by TNF-α overproduction by immune cells during inflammation. It has been suggested that functional NF-κB sites are involved in TNF-α-induced bone resorption. Thus, we explored the effect of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), which potently blocks the activation of nuclear factor (NF-κB), on the induction of TNF-α-induced activation of JNK/SAPK, AP-1, cytochrome c, caspase and apoptosis in MC3T3E1 osteoblasts. Pretreatment of the cells with PDTC blocked... -
Changes in the Expressional Levels of Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+-regulatory Proteins in the Postnatal Developing Rat Heart

In the present study, the postnatal developmental changes in the expressional levels of cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca2 regulatory proteins, i.e. Ca2-ATPase, phospholamban, and Ca2 release channel, were investigated. Both SR Ca2-ATPase and phospholamban mRNA levels were about 35% of adult levels at birth and gradually increased to adult levels. Protein levels of both SR Ca2-ATPase and phospholamban, which were measured by quantitative immunoblotting,...
