Calcium Ions are Involved in Modulation of Melittin-induced Nociception in Rat: I. Effect of Voltage-gated Calcium Channel Antagonist
HongKeeShin, KyungHeeLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.5 6 255-262 (8 pages)
Melittin-induced nociceptive responses are mediated by selective activation of capsaicin-sensitive primary afferent fibers and are modulated by excitatory amino acid receptor, cyclooxygenase, protein kinase C and serotonin receptor. The present study was undertaken to investigate the peripheral and spinal actions of voltage-gated calcium channel antagonists on melittin-induced nociceptive responses. Changes in mechanical threshold and number of flinchings were measured after intraplantar (i.pl.)... -
Neurovascular Mechanisms in Stroke, Neurodegeneration and Recovery

The emerging concept of the“neurovascular unit”may enable a powerful paradigm shift for neuroscience. Instead of a pure focus on the“neurobiology”of disease, an opportunity now exists to return to a more integrative approach. The neurovascular unit emphasizes that signaling between vascular and neuronal compartments comprise the basis for both function and dysfunction in brain. Hence, brain disorders are not just due to death of neurons, but instead manifested as cell signaling perturbations... -
Changes of Serum Ferritin in Acute Lung Injury Induced by Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion
SungDongPark, Yoon-YubPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 4 187-192 (6 pages)
Serum ferritin levels are increased in subjects at-risk for or with acute lung injury (ALI), and there are observations to suggest that increases in serum ferritin levels may help predict the development of ALI in at-risk individuals. To deepen our understanding of increases of serum ferritin and their relationship to the development of ALI, we measured serum ferritin levels before and after intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats, and found that serum ferritin levels increased... -
Enhanced Expression of Cell Adhesion Molecules in the Aorta of Diabetic Mice is Mediated by gp91phox-derived Superoxide

in control aorta (0.9⁑0.5 and 1.6⁑0.3, respectively), accompanied with the enhanced expression of gp91phox, a membrane subunit of NAD(P)H oixdase. Furthermore, there was a strong positive correlation (r=0.89, P<0.01 in ICAM-1 and r=0.88, P<0.01 in VCAM-1) between ICAM-1/VCAM-1 expression and vascular production of superoxide. The present data indicate that the increased production of superoxide via NAD(P)H oxidase may explain the enhanced expression of CAM in diabetic vasculatures. -
Kinesin Superfamily KIF5 Proteins Bind to βIII Spectrin
Jae-EunPaik, NariKim, SungSuYea, WonHeeJang, Joon-YoungChung, Sang-KyoungLee, Yeong-HongPark, JinHan, Dae-HyunSeog 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

The kinesin proteins (KIFs) make up a large superfamily of molecular motors that transport cargo such as vesicles, protein complexes, and organelles. KIF5 is a heterotetrameric motor that conveys vesicles and plays an important role in neuronal function. Here, we used the yeast two-hybrid system to identify the neuronal protein(s) that interacts with the tail region of KIF5 and found a specific interaction with βIII spectrin. The amino acid residues between 1394 and 1774 of βIII spectrin were... -
Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester Inhibits the PKC-Induced IL-6 Gene Expression in the Synoviocytes of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 11 363-368 (6 pages)
To gain insight on the role of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-induced IL-6 gene expression and the effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on the PMA-induced IL-6 gene expression were investigated in human fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs). Synovial tissue samples were obtained from rheumatoid arthritis patients, and FLSs were isolated. The cells were stimulated with PMA (100 nM) for 6... -
PDTC Inhibits TNF-α-Induced Apoptosis in MC3T3E1 Cells
Han-JungChae, JeehyeonBae 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.4 2 199-205 (7 pages)
Osteoblasts are affected by TNF-α overproduction by immune cells during inflammation. It has been suggested that functional NF-κB sites are involved in TNF-α-induced bone resorption. Thus, we explored the effect of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), which potently blocks the activation of nuclear factor (NF-κB), on the induction of TNF-α-induced activation of JNK/SAPK, AP-1, cytochrome c, caspase and apoptosis in MC3T3E1 osteoblasts. Pretreatment of the cells with PDTC blocked... -

mRNA expression of p22phox, a membrane subunit of oxidase. Furthermore, inhibition of p22phox expression by transfection of antisense p22phox oligonucleotides into diabetic VSMC resulted in a decrease in superoxide production, which was accompanied by a significant inhibition of cell proliferation. Based on these results, it is suggested that diabetes-associated increase in NAD(P)H oxidase activity via enhanced expression of p22phox contributes to augmented VSMC proliferation in diabetic rats. -
Mechanism of Glutamate-induced [Ca2+]i Increase in Substantia Gelatinosa Neurons of Juvenile Rats

The glutamate receptors (GluRs) are key receptors for modulatory synaptic events in the central nervous system. It has been reported that glutamate increases the intracellular Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]i) and induces cytotoxicity. In the present study, we investigated whether the glutamate-induced [Ca2]i increase was associated with the activation of ionotropic (iGluR) and metabotropic GluRs (mGluR) in substantia gelatinosa neurons, using spinal cord slice of juvenile rats... -
Blockade of p38 Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Pathway Inhibits Interleukin-6 Release and Expression in Primary Neonatal Cardiomyocytes

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.6 7 319-325 (7 pages)
The induction of interleukin-6 (IL-6) using combined proinflammatory agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/ IFN-γ) was studied in relation to p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and NF-κB transcriptional factor in primary neonatal cardiomyocytes. When added to cultures of cardiomyocytes, the combined agents (LPS/IFN-γ or TNF-α/IFN-γ) had stimulatory effect on the production of IL-6 and the elevation was significantly reduced by SB203580, a specific p38 MAPK inhibitor. SB203580 inhibited...
