Regulation of Ca2+ Signaling in Pulmonary Hypertension
AmyL.Firth, JunYeonWon, WonSunPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of pulmonary hypertension (PH) remains imperative if we are to successfully improve the quality of life and life span of patients with the disease. A whole plethora of mechanisms are associated with the development and progression of PH. Such complexity makes it difficult to isolate one particular pathway to target clinically. Changes in intracellular free calcium concentration, the most common... -
The Effect of Methanol on the Structural Parameters of Neuronal Membrane Lipid Bilayers

The structures of the intact synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMVs) isolated from bovine cerebral cortexs, and the outer and the inner monolayer separately, were evaluated with 1,6-diphenyl- 1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) and 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl)propane (Py-3-Py) as fluorescent reporters and trinitrophenyl groups as quenching agents. The methanol increased bulk rotational and lateral mobilities of SPMVs lipid bilayers. The methanol increased the rotational and lateral mobilities of the outer... -

activity in ICC at low concentrations (50 and 100ՌM), but at high concentration (500ՌM and 1 mM) it seemed to cause light tonic inward currents and then inhibited pacemaker amplitude and pacemaker frequency, and also an increase in the resting currents in the outward direction. Glibenclamide or other potassium channel blockers (TEA, BaCl2, apamin or 4-aminopydirine) did not have an effect on NaHS-induced action in ICC. The exogenous application of carbonilcyanide... -
Heat Acclimatization in Hot Summer for Ten Weeks Suppress the Sensitivity of Sweating in Response to Iontophoretically-administered Acetylcholine
Jeong-BeomLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.6 10 349-356 (8 pages)
To determine the peripheral mechanisms involved in thermal sweating during the hot summers in July before acclimatization and after acclimatization in September, we evaluated the sweating response of healthy subjects (n=10) to acetylcholine (ACh), a primary neurotransmitter involved in peripheral sudomotor sensitivity. The quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test (QSART) measures sympathetic C fiber function after iontophoresed ACh evokes a measurable reliable sweat response. The QSART, at 2 mA... -
Protective Effect of Defibrotide on Splanchnic Injury following Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

weight) 10 min prior to reperfusion significantly improved mean arterial blood pressure in comparison to vehicle treated rats (p<0.05). Defibrotide treatment also significantly attenuated in the increase of plasma amino nitrogen concentration, intestinal myeloperoxidase activity, intestinal lipid peroxidation, infiltration of neutrophils in intestine and thrombin induced adherence of neutrophils to superior mesentric artery segments. Superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide production in 1μM... -
Effect of Defibrotide on Rat Reflux Esophagitis

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.6 5 319-328 (10 pages)
This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of defibrotide on the development of the surgically induced reflux esophagitis, on gastric secretion, lipid peroxidation, polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) accumulation, polymorphonuclear leukocytes adherence, superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide production in PMNs, scavenge of hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide, cytokine (interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α) production in blood, and intracellular calcium mobilization in PMNs.... -
Nitric Oxide Synthase Mediates Carbon Monoxide-Induced Stimulation of L-type Calcium Currents in Human Jejunal Smooth Muscle Cells

L-type Ca2 current was partially blocked by N-(3-(Amino-methyl) benzyl) acetamidine·2HCl (1400W, an iNOS inhibitor). On the other hand, 3-bromo-7-nitroindazole (BNI, a nNOS inhibitor) or N5-(1-Iminoethyl)-L-ornithine dihydrochloride (L-NIO, an eNOS inhibitor) completely blocked the CO effect. These data suggest that low dose of exogenous CO may stimulate all NOS isoforms to increase L-type Ca2 channel through nitric oxide (NO) pathway in human jejunal circular smooth muscle cells. -
Carrageenan-Induced Hyperalgesia Is Partially Alleviated by Endomorphin-1 Locally Delivered into Inflamed Paws in Rat
SeoEunLeeHongKeeShin 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2003, Vol.7 No.6 12 369-373 (5 pages)
This study was performed to test whether endomorphin-1 has analgesic effect, when locally administrated into inflamed peripheral tissue. Carrageenan suspension (0.5%) was injected intraplantarly into the right paw of Sprague-Dawley male rats, and the rats were subjected to a series of mechanical stimuli with von Frei filaments before and after the injection. Carrageenan-injected rats showed typical inflammatory hyperalgesic signs and decrease of withdrawal threshold, peaked at 3 to 6 hours after... -
Antagonists of NMDA Receptor, Calcium Channel and Protein Kinase C Potentiate Inhibitory Action of Morphine on Responses of Rat Dorsal Horn Neuron

The present study was designed to examine whether the co-application of morphine with Ca2 channel antagonist (Mn2, verapamil), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist (2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid[AP5], Mg2) or protein kinase C inhibitor (H-7) causes the potentiation of morphine- induced antinociceptive action by using an in vivo electrophysiological technique. A single iontophoretic application of morphine or an antagonist alone induced weak inhibition of wide... -

the central nervous system. It has been reported that glutamate increases the intracellular Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]i) and induces cytotoxicity. In the present study, we investigated whether the glutamate-induced [Ca2]i increase was associated with the activation of ionotropic (iGluR) and metabotropic GluRs (mGluR) in substantia gelatinosa neurons, using spinal cord slice of juvenile rats (10∼21 day). [Ca2]i was measured using conventional imaging techniques, which...
