in response to insulin treatment. It was confirmed by measuring the subcellular distribution of GLUT2 based on GLUT2 immunoblot density among the four membrane fractions before and after insulin treatment. Total GLUT2 distributions at PM, LYSO, HDM and LDM were 37.7⁑12.0%, 42.4⁑12.1%, 19.2⁑5.0% and 0.7⁑1.2% in the absence of insulin. Total GLUT2 distribution in the presence of insulin was almost same as that in the absence of insulin. Present data with previous findings... -
Comparative Effects of PKB-α and PKC-ζ on the Phosphorylation of GLUT4-Containing Vesicles in Rat Adipocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 7 479-486 (8 pages)
Insulin stimulates glucose transport in muscle and fat cells by promoting the translocation of glucose transporter (GLUT4) to the cell surface. Phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase (PI3-kinase) has been implicated in this process. However, the involvement of protein kinase B (PKB)/Akt and PKC-ζ, those are known as the downstream target of PI3-kinase in regulation of GLUT4 translocation, is not known yet. An interesting possibility is that these protein kinases phosphorylate GLUT4 directly in this... -
Ritanserin, a 5HT2/1C Receptor Antagonist, Does Not Block Cocaine- Induced Behavioral Alterations and zif268 mRNA Expression in the Striatum of the Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 3 355-359 (5 pages)
Cocaine induces immediate early gene expression and behavioral changes by blocking dopamine transporters in the terminals of nigrostriatal neurons in the striatum. The pharmacological role of serotonin 2/1C (5HT2/1C) receptors in cocaine-induced expression of zif268 (NGFI-A, egr1 and Krox-24) mRNA, a member of the zinc finger, was investigated using quantitative in situ hybridization histochemistry in vivo. Behavioral alterations induced by cocaine were also monitored in relation with blockade... -
Effect of Heat Shock Protein 72 on the Generation of Reperfusion Arrhythmias
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

coronary artery occlusion was followed by 10-min reperfusion. The incidence of reperfusion-induced VF in the AK and AKQ groups was significantly lower than that in control group (p<0.01). After the ischemia/reperfusion procedure, western blot analysis of HSP72 expression in the myocardial tissues resected from each group was performed. HSP72 production in the AK group was marked, whereas HSP72 was not detected in the AKQ and control groups. These results suggest that the suppressive effect... -
Electroencephalographic Correlation Dimension Changes with Depth of Halothane

calculated. Standardized values of three parameters, betaL power, median power frequency (MPF), and D2 were derived by calculation based on the number of animals showing the movement in response to a tail clamp. The betaL power had the largest correlation coefficient to spontaneous movement and to the response to a tail clamp than any other band parameter. MPF had a better correlation with the movement than 90% spectral edge frequency. Among the dynamic parameters, D2 on the parietal cortex had... -
The Mechanism of t-Butylhydroperoxide-Induced Apoptosis in IMR- 32 Human Neuroblastoma Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 3 19-28 (10 pages)
Apoptosis has been implicated in the pathophysiological mechanisms of various neurodegenerative diseases. In a variety of cell types, oxidative stress has been demonstrated to play an important role in the apoptotic cell death. However, the exact mechanism of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in neuronal cells is not known. In this study, we induced oxidative stress in IMR-32 human neuroblastoma cells with tert- butylhydroperoxide (TBHP), which was confirmed by significantly reduced... -
The Effects of Intracellular Monocarboxylates on the ATP-sensitive Potassium Channels in Rabbit Ventricular Myocytes

of lactate increased channel activity. These effects were reversible upon washout. Analysis of single channel kinetics showed that monocarboxylates did not affect open-time constant and close-time constant. These results suggest that monocarboxylates participate in modulating KATP channels activity in cardiac cells and that modulation of KATP channels activity may resolve the discrepancy between the low Ki in excised membrane patches and high levels of intracellular ATP concentration during... -
Tetrachloroauric Acid Depresses the Activation Processes of Phagocytic Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.3 13 377-384 (8 pages)
Gold compounds depress phagocytic cell responses, including chemotaxis, and respiratory burst. However, the effects of gold compounds on the function of phagocytic cells are variable according to the preparation of medicine. In this study, effect of tetrachloroauric acid on activated neutrophil responses, including respiratory burst, lysosomal enzyme release and change of intracellular Ca2+ level and on the synthesis of interleukin-8 and granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor by... -
Regulation of AQP-4 Water Channel Expression in the Brain during Development and by Ischemia
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.5 4 495-504 (10 pages)
AQP4 channels have not been reported. Northern blot analysis showed that AQP4 mRNA began to be expressed in the brain just before birth and that its expression gradually increased by PN7 and then decreased at adult level. AQP4 was expressed predominantly in the ependymal cells of ventricles in newborn rats. And then its expression decreased in ependymal cells and increased gradually in other regions including supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei. AQP4 is also expressed in the subfornical organ,... -
Two Types of Voltage-dependent Outward Potassium Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells of Rabbit Basilar Atery
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 15 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.2 7 169-183 (15 pages)
We have investigated the two types of voltage-dependent outward potassium (K) currents, i.e. delayed rectifier K current (IK(V)) and 'A-like' transient outward K current (Ito) with patch-clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells (SMCs) isolated from rabbit basilar artery, and investigated the characteristics of them. The time-courses of activation were well fitted by exponential function raised to second power (n2) in IK(v) and fourth power (n4) in Ito. The activation, inactivation and...
