2009년 처음 국내에 유입된 스마트폰은 2015년 5월 기준 4천160만 명 이상이 사용하고 있는 것으로 추산되었다(미래창조과학부, 2015). 말 그대로 스마트폰의 대중화 시대가 열린 것이다. 스마트폰의 대중화는 성인, 청소년 집단뿐 아니라 유아 집단에도 적용되고 있는데, 2014년 육아 정책연구소 발표에 따르면 68.4%에 이르는 유아가 스마트폰을 사용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이렇듯 스마트폰은 국내 유입 이후 그 사용자 수가 폭발적으로 증가하고 있으며 사용자 연령 층 또한 성인, 청소년에서 초등학생, 유아로 하향화되고 있다.
