Estimation of Paratuberculosis Prevalence in Dairy Cattle in a Province of Korea using an Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: Application of Bayesian Approach
Son-il Pak, Doo Kim, Mo Salman 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
8 51-56 (6 pages)
of Korea, we applied Bayesian approach with Gibbs sampler to the data extracted from the prevalence study in 1999. The data were from a single test results without a designated gold test. The prevalence estimates for PTB in study population ranged 3.2-5.3% for conservative and 6.7-7.1% for liberal, depending on the priors used. The simulated specificities of the ELISA close to one another, ranging 84.7-90.6%, whereas the sensitivity was somewhat spread out depending largely on the priors with a... -

have many problems particularly with software cost estimation and the assessment of the evaluation model. Software cost estimation mainly depends on two factors which are the estimation consistency and estimation accuracy. These are very much important to the perfect development of the software without any drawbacks to it. In the past there have been many models and techniques that have failed to give the correct software estimation that really challenges the all factors of perfect software in... -
Lifecycle cost assessment of best management practices for diffuse pollution control in Han River Basin

efficiency, maintenance activities, etc. were gathered and utilized to conduct the evaluation of long-term performance of BMPs. The financial data such as actual construction, design and maintenance cost were also collected to evaluate the lifecycle cost (LCC) of BMPs. In this study, most of the maintenance activity was focused in the aesthetic maintenance that resulted to the annual maintenance cost of the four BMP types was closely similar ranging from 8,483 $/yr for retention pond to 8,888 $/... -
Effects of sit-to-stand imagery group training on balance performance in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 7 Pages
2 63-69 (7 pages)
Objective: To evaluate the effects of sit-to-stand (STS) imagery group training (IGT) on STS movement and balance performance for chronic hemiparetic stroke. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 30 people with chronic hemiparetic stroke (15 for STS-IGT group and 15 for control) were recruited in this study. The STS-IGT group participated in a videotape-based STS-IGT for 30 minutes a day, five days a week for six weeks, while the control group watched a documentary on... -
Molecular cloning and characterization of porcine ribosomal protein L21
Wu-Sheng Sun, Ju-Lan Chun, Dong-Hwan Kim, Jin-Seop Ahn, Min-Kyu Kim, In-Sul Hwang, Dae-Jin Kwon, Seongsoo Hwang, Jeong-Woong Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
18 531-540 (10 pages)
Ribosomal protein L21 (RPL21) is a structural component of the 60S subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome. This protein has an important role in protein synthesis and the occurrence of hereditary diseases. Pig is a common laboratory model, however, to the best of our knowledge, its RPL21 gene has not been cloned to date. In this study, we cloned and identified the full-length sequence of the pig RPL21 gene for the first time. In addition, we examined its expression pattern and function by using... -
Transgenesis for pig models
Soo-Young Yum, Ki-Young Yoon, Choong-Il Lee, Byeong-Chun Lee, Goo Jang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
1 261-268 (8 pages)
Animal models, particularly pigs, have come to play an important role in translational biomedical research. There have been many pig models with genetically modifications via somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). However, because most transgenic pigs have been produced by random integration to date, the necessity for more exact gene-mutated models using recombinase based conditional gene expression like mice has been raised. Currently, advanced genome-editing technologies enable us to generate... -
Production of α 1,3-galactosyltransferase targeted pigs using transcription activator-like effector nuclease-mediated genome editing technology
Jung-Taek Kang, Dae-Kee Kwon, A-Rum Park, Eun-Jin Lee, Yun-Jin Yun, Dal-Young Ji, Kiho Lee, Kwang-Wook Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
11 89-96 (8 pages)
Recent developments in genome editing technology using meganucleases demonstrate an efficient method of producing gene edited pigs. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of the transcription activator-like effector nuclease (TALEN) system in generating specific mutations on the pig genome. Specific TALEN was designed to induce a double-strand break on exon 9 of the porcine α1,3-galactosyltransferase (GGTA1) gene as it is the main cause of hyperacute rejection after xenotransplantation.... -
Development of a novel diagnostic test for detection of bovine viral diarrhea persistently infected animals using hair
Kuldeep Singh*, Myrna M. Miller, Laura J. Kohrt, Gail Scherba, Edgar F. Garrett, Richard L. Fredrickson 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
15 295-297 (3 pages)
The purpose of this study was to determine whether manually plucked hairs might serve as an alternative sample for a quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) testing. Twenty three, 1∼3 week old, non-bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) vaccinated calves, found to be positive for BVDV by immunohistochemical staining, were selected and hairs were manually plucked from the ear. qRT-PCR was performed on samples consisting of more than 30 hairs (30∼100) and whole blood....
