Gradual Reperfusion Lowers the Incidence of Reperfusion-Induced Ventricular Fibrillation in a Cat Model of Regional Ischemia

Blood flow restoration to ischemic zone of the heart is essential to salvage of ischemic tissue. However, there is a large body of evidence documenting that the reperfusion can induce reperfusion injury like reperfusion-induced malignant arrhythmias. In the present study, employing a cat model of regional cardiac ischemia, we examined if reperfusion rendered in a gradual fashion could lower the incidence of reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation (VF), which usually precipitated within a... -

Although 3D-complex fractionated atrial electrogram (CFAE) mapping is useful in radiofrequency catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), the directions and configuration of the bipolar electrodes may affect the electrogram. This study aimed to compare the spatial reproducibility of CFAE by changing the catheter orientations and electrode distance in an in -silico left atrium (LA). We conducted this study by importing the heart CT image of a patient with AF into a 3D-homogeneous... -
Inducibility of human atrial fibrillation in an in silico model reflecting local acetylcholine distribution and concentration

Vagal nerve activity has been known to play a crucial role in the induction and maintenance of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, it is unclear how the distribution and concentration of local acetylcholine (ACh) promotes AF. In this study, we investigated the effect of the spatial distribution and concentration of ACh on fibrillation patterns in an in silico human atrial model. A human atrial action potential model with an ACh-dependent K+ current (IKAch) was used to examine the effect of vagal... -

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationships between the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels with the sociodemographic and clinical factors, self-care behaviors, and the physical symptom experiences in patients with heart failure. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized a convenience sample of adult outpatients and inpatients who attended a cardiology department in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The data from 154 patients with heart failure were... -

In this study, we demonstrated the inhibitory effect of the Class Ic antiarrhythmic agent propafenone on voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channels using freshly isolated coronary artery smooth muscle cells from rabbits. The Kv current amplitude was progressively inhibited by propafenone in a dose-dependent manner, with an apparent IC50 value of 5.04±1.05 μM and a Hill coefficient of 0.78±0.06. The application of propafenone had no significant effect on the steady-state activation and inactivation...
