toward digital installations, whereas computer games order the users to follow a sequential procedure. The new social distancing condition, caused by COVID-19, requires a new method to experience art exhibitions and education programs in museums, galleries, and schools. A proactive research on the relation between digital art and media literacy unveils the interactivity embodying the younger generation engaged in education programs from elementary and secondary school to university students. -
Examining the possibilities for children’s digital literacy practices at home: Two theoretical perspectives
Lisa Kervin 경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 14 Pages
경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 2020, Vol.3 No.2 6 95-108 (14 pages)
The everyday use of digital technologies influences the literacy practices of young children and their families. Literate knowledge, skills, and understandings emerge through interactions between elements of the environment, artefacts or ‘tools’ (digital and non-digital), and people. As technologies become increasingly portable, affordable and efficient there is need to examine how digital experiences contribute to emergent literacy development. I draw upon the 2020 Australian COVID-19... -

경인교육대학교 교육연구원 The Journal of Education 2020, Vol.3 No.2 3 41-57 (17 pages)
This article aims to discuss how students learn critical literacy when they are supported in accessing, examining, and using multiple digital sources in school contexts. I begin with a brief introduction to research-informed perspectives on reading in the digital age and how people learn to read in new media environments. Next, I describe students’critical literacy learning using data from a design-based study that supports youths’inquiry of multiple digital sources for historical learning.... -

presentation given at the ‘Rethinking Literacy, Digital Competency and Media Education in the Age of Digital Platforms’ webinar hosted by Gyeongin National University in September 2020. In the paper, I explore the difficulties of implementing ‘critical data education’ programs in schools with children and young people. Reporting on three research projects with over 150 Australian students (aged 8-16 years), I explore the challenges and opportunities that arose. Each project was based around... -

and 2020 respectively were further intensively explored. The conclusions based on the results of the study are as follows. First, STL emphasized technological literacy. However, STEL was developed by focusing on technology and engineering literacy. Second, STEL was developed with close relation to STEM education in American schools, and is meant to promote it. Third, in consideration of the student s learning burden, the standard of STEL and the benchmark have significantly decreased from 20 to... -

(4) The 10 interviewed early childhood educators believed that their aesthetic teaching practices were influenced by their aesthetic literacy. They played important roles as aesthetic guides and providers to help the children explore the environment, as well as exploring, creating, and appreciating the arts. This study provides a lens for examining aesthetic education in early schooling in Taiwan, as... -

Kit Ying Suzannie Leung 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 18 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.2 1 1-18 (18 pages)
Research has shown that English literacy instructional practices such as direct teaching of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing are effective for teaching English as second language learners. Previous research on early reading acquisition has focused on phonological awareness?the ability to consciously attend to and manipulate the sound structure of spoken language. Nevertheless, a series of previous studies suggests that children’s ability to match spoken words... -

in promoting parental mathematical interaction, teacher-parent cooperative relationship, and 3-year-olds’ mathematical ability. Forty-two 3-year-olds and their parents, from two childcare centers, were sampled; 21 children from one center served as the experimental group, and 21 children from the other center served as the comparison group. In order to investigate significant differences between the two groups, independent and paired t-tests were carried out after 26 sessions of the home... -

engaged in traditional, instructional practice. In L2 Singapore classrooms, traditional Chinese literacy pedagogies were tempered by more Western ideas. The common difficulties encountered in L1 literacy classrooms were different from those found in L2 classrooms, and most of the L1 and L2 difficulties were associated with the language and education policies. The sociocontextual, psycholinguistic and pedagogical accounts and the educational implications of these findings are also discussed.
