자가치아이식은 동일 개체의 구강 내에서 치아를 다른 부위로 옮겨 생착시키는 술식이다1). 선천적 치아 결손부 가 존재하거나 외상으로 인해 치아 결손부가 생긴 경우, 치관-치근 파절증례, 치경부 우식이나 치근흡수가 치조 골 하방으로 연장된 증례 등에서 치아 상실 부위에 대한 환자의 심미적 욕구와 기능을 회복하는 방법으로 제3대 구치를 이용한 자가치아이식이 시행될 수 있으며 치아 의 발육정도, 이식치의 형태, 이식와의 감염 여부, 술중 외상, 고정의 형태 등이 예후에 영향을 미친다2).
