blue exclusion, and was never less than 97%. The purity was at least 94%, as assessed by light microscopy and by flow cytometry according to forward scatter (size) and side scatter (granularity) parameters. Plasma and ruminal sampling Plasma was collected from the samples used for neutrophil isolation. The plasma samples at 0, 8, 16, 24, 32 and 48 h post oligofructose overload were frozen ... shedding in blood neutrophils. Blood neutrophils and plasma were obtained by jugular venipuncture, while ruminal samples were collected using rumenocentesis. Lactic acid from plasma and ruminal samples was measured by HPLC. PAF-induced ROS production and L-selectin shedding were measured in vitro in bovine neutrophils by a luminol chemiluminescence assay and flow cytometry, respectively. A significant increase in ruminal and plasma lactic acid was recorded in these animals. Specifically, a... -

neutrophilia, and eosinophilia were observed in all groups. During the booster injections, when no adjuvant was used, the values for these parameters decreased and stabilized. When the second dose was administered, there was a significant (p 0.05) increase in the monocyte counts in all groups to values above the reference (0.5 3/ Moreover, from the third immunization onward there was a... Specific anti-venom used to treat scorpion envenomation is usually obtained from horses after hyperimmunization with crude scorpion venom. However, immunized animals often become ill because of the toxic effects of the immunogens used. This study was conducted to evaluate the toxic and immunogenic activities of crude and detoxified Tityus serrulatus (Ts) venom in sheep during the production of anti-scorpionic anti-venom. Sheep were categorized into three groups: G1, control, immunized with... -

To evaluate the effects of chelated Zn/Cu/Mn on redox status, immune responses and hoof health in lactating Holstein cows, 48 head in early lactation were divided into healthy or lame groups according to their gait score. Cows were fed the same amount of Zn/Cu/Mn as sulfate salts or in chelated forms for 180 days, and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine was injected at day 90. The results showed that lame cows had lower antioxidant function, serum Zn/Mn levels, hair Cu levels, and hoof... -

12 non-pregnant heifers. Clinical parameters and blood samples were obtained at 48 and 24 h and at 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h after induction of lameness. Clinical parameters included heart rate, respiratory rate, ruminal frequency and lameness score. Plasma biomarkers included cortisol, haptoglobin, norepinephrine, beta-endorphin and substance P. a Levene test was used to test for homoscedasticity. Relationships between and within parameters were evaluated using the Spearman and Pearson correlation (Proc corr spearman pearson). To control for an unequal sample size, the homogeneity of variance and random effect were first evaluated using a Brown and Forsythe test (Proc GLM with option means hovtest = BF) followed by a Durbin-Watson... Cows with different Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) concentrations showed comparable expression levels of hepatic growth hormone receptor (GHR). Suppressor of cytokine signaling 2 (SOCS2), could be responsible for additional inhibition of the GHR signal cascade. The aims were to monitor cows with high or low antepartal IGF-I concentrations (IGF-I or IGF-I), evaluate the interrelationships of endocrine endpoints, and measure hepatic SOCS2 expression. Dairy cows (n = 20) were selected (240 to... -

F values of 9.6% and 6.4% for the 10 and 20 mg/kg doses respectively [13]. In pigs, however we could not find the optimal dosage using PK and PD parameters. The optimal dosage of drug can be determined with the equation provided by Toutain et al. [22], which is related to PK and PD parameters. In addition, Schentag stated pre- viously that the AUC/MIC (AUIC) ratio of quinolones should be more... p.o. administration of NFLXGA, the maximal absorption concentration (Cmax) was 0.43 ± 0.06 ■g/ ml at 1.36 ± 0.39 h (Tmax). The mean absorption (t1/2ka) and elimination half-life (t1/2■) of NFLXGA were 0.78 ± 0.27 h and 7.13 ± 1.41 h, respectively. The mean systemic bioavailability (F) after p.o. administration was 31.10 ± 15.16%. We suggest that the optimal dosage calculated from the pharmacokinetic parameters is 5.01 mg/kg per day i.v. or 16.12 mg/kg per day p.o. -

the other parameters except its effect on the type of suture materials used (p = 0.006). Their gender only had an effect on the incidence of hernia. The incidence of abdominal hernias was higher in the females and the incidence of inguinal hernia was higher in the males. The history of hernia had no significant effect on the other variables except for its effect on the type of suture materials (p... Sheep and goats are frequently presented with different forms of hernias to veterinary clinics. The aim of this study is to investigate the outcome of the surgical treatment of abdominal, umbilical, inguinal and scrotal hernias in sheep and goats. Fifty-eight clinical cases (sheep = 44, goat = 14) were presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia from September, 2003 to September, 2006. These animals had abdominal... -
