clinical, MRI, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical findings associated with ischemic stroke in dogs. Additionally, the association of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and tissue levels of interleukin (IL)-6 with clinical prognosis was assessed. Ischemic stroke was induced by permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in nine healthy experimental dogs. The dogs were divided into three groups according to survival time and duration of the experimental period: group... -
Canine model of ischemic stroke with permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion: clinical and histopathological findings

The aim of the present study was to assess the clinical and histopathological findings in a canine model of ischemic stroke. Cerebral ischemic stroke was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion in four healthy beagle dogs using silicone plugs. They showed neurological signs of forebrain dysfunction such as reduced responsiveness, head turning, circling, postural reaction deficits, perceptual deficits, and hemianopsia. These signs gradually regressed within 4 weeks without therapy. On... -

a person with chronic stroke. The participant was an 79 year old female with a left sub-cortical ischemic stroke, who reported a depression. Pre and post interviews were analyzed using a grounded theory method to identify the stages of psychological adaptation in response to the progression of 4 weeks BWSTT. The participant achieved her walking speed of 0.72m/s through 12 sessions of BWSTT. Findings from the qualitative data are presented as a 5-stage model of psychological adaptation; Distress,... -

manifested as cell signaling perturbations at the neurovascular interface. In this mini-review, we will examine 3 examples of this hypothesis: neurovascular mechanisms involved in the thrombolytic therapy of stroke, the crosstalk between neurogenesis and angiogenesis, and the link between vascular dysfunction and amyloid pathology in Alzheimer's disease. An understanding of cell-cell and cell-matrix signaling at the neurovascular interface may yield new approaches for targeting CNS disorders. -

Second, most of the theses on caregiving of stroke patients by the type of research were survey research (86%) and experimental design (12%) and comparative study were rarely conducted. That is, there have been no studies other than survey research, experimental design and comparative study. Third, as a... -

aims to investigate the effects of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on cognitive function, depression, and rehabilitative motivation in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods : This pilot study follows a pre-post design and 15 older adults with MCI participated. The intervention comprised of 30-minute sessions 4 to 5 times a week for 4 weeks. The Lowenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment-G (LOTCA-G), the short form Geriatric Depression Scale (SGDS-K), and a... -

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the effects of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on patients after they had each experienced an acute stroke and evaluate the association between rehabilitation satisfaction and age. Eighteen patients who had each experienced an acute stroke participated in the study. They were assigned to two groups: the experimental group (n = 12) and control group (n = 6). Interventions were performed with each group for 30 minutes per day, five times per... -

and depression of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment(MCI). Methods: The subjects were randomly assigned to the exercise-cognitive combined dual-task training group(n=32) or single-task training group(n=31). To identify the effects on cognitive function, general cognitive function, frontal lobe function, and attention/working memory were measured. Depression was evaluated using Korean version of Geriatric Depression Scale. The outcome measurements were performed before and after the 8... -

the contrary, only four (1.9%) therapists have used the Chedoke-McMaster stroke assessment and the Rivermead Mobility Index. The lack of time was considered as the most important barrier to the use of assessment tools in clinical practice. Conclusions: Through this study, it has been shown that the domestic physical therapists used the TUG and the 10MWT mainly due to high recognition and evaluation status; however, the lack of time was the greatest impediment to the clinical application of the... -

Objective: Elderly people with dementia experience not only cognitive dysfunction but also motor function deficits, such as balance and gait impairments. Recently, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been used to reduce pain as well as to control muscle spasm, spasticity and motor performance in various types of subjects. The purpose of this study determined the effect of a single trial TENS on balance and gait function in elderly people with dementia. Design: A randomized...
